Sparx Skate Sharpener - At home sharpener
VegasHockey replied to tamtamg's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
These guys sell overseas: https://www.nordichockey.com/ On a new runner with DLC, I would imagine at least 10 full passes to get a nice clean edge. -
Sparx Skate Sharpener - At home sharpener
VegasHockey replied to tamtamg's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
STEP DLC (Black) is usually very consistent, as are most other brands of DLC steel such as Tydan and Massive. Bauer LS5 is much more consistent than the previous LS4/3/2 but not nearly as consistent as most other major steel manufacturers. Sparx seems to sharpen DLC steel fine, though you may need a few more passes the first time sharpening as compared to standard stainless or polished steel to cut through the DLC coating. I would usually recommend getting any DLC steel first sharpened at a pro shop so you don't introduce unnecessary wear on your Sparx griding ring. -
Those Option B skate straps remind me of the ones they used to use on rollerblades. They might work, but man, I don't think I could deal with people chirping me every time I stepped on the ice. Regardless of the skate and its fit if you put enough force on a specific area for an extended period of time repeatedly throughout the course of a few hours, an entire day, or multiple days, you will usually get some bruising due to the repeated pressure exerted on a specific area of your foot or ankle. If you normally don't have issues such as discomfort, bruising, or blisters, I would not worry.

Hands on with the new Bauer Vapor Flylite
VegasHockey replied to VegasHockey's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
I think Aug 2019 -
Had a chance to use a pro stock Bauer Vapor Flylite today at drop-in and was considerably impressed. It's certainly a mix between the Easton GX and a Vapor 1X Lite. The blade feels very rigid and lightweight but has some dampening to it, much like the new CCM FT2. I was able to weigh it with tape and it came in at 393 grams. The stick was slightly longer than retail, 61" in length so I assume without tape and in the standard 60" retail model its probably closer to 380 grams. Overall it had a very quick release and was easy to load but I do think they may have removed a little too much weight from the blade, similar to the mistake I feel Warrior made with the Fantom, as sometimes hard passes seemed to push through the blade if you didn't have the blade face perfectly squared. I wish I could share pictures and such but the player who allowed me to use the stick requested for me to not publish anything on social media. Interested to see how the retail model is different from the pro stock version when released.

To each their own. I prefer short cuffs, almost no cuff at all.

I went with the 10mm black felt tongue and standard FT2 boot stiffness.

They do not. Just a standard 10ft radius, -
Yes, I barely have to tighten them at all. I also went with the 1/4" advanced facing as well so it allows much more forward flex. If you have bony ankles I would recommend the donut pads 2. The regular donut pads are only slightly thicker than the standard option.
-
Does anyone have any insight if the weight of a stick becomes heavier or lighter with different flexes? I assume I could just grab a bunch of sticks off the showroom floor and weigh them but I am at home right now. I assume if there is a difference in weight it will likely only be a few grams as the flex rating increases? Reason for me asking is higher flex rated sticks always seem to feel lighter to me for some odd reason.

Then donut pads are nice. I have them. There are 3 upgrade options actually, donut pads (thick), donut pads 2 (thicker) and poron (thickest) I went with the standard donut pads. https://photos.app.goo.gl/MBBboeCmCeWXh44i9

Blade pitch question - SB XS from LS Edge w/ Step
VegasHockey replied to xstartxtodayx's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
Have you talked to WeestSdie Skate? You might want to hit them up. http://westsideskate.com/ -
Pretty sure next year everyone will have phased out names on sticks. I know a couple of big brands have already told stores they are moving this direction to cut down on paying royalties and such.
