Really really like the white, black, composite, chrome balance in all that the more I see it...the holder and steel just makes my eye circulate very pleasantly about the whole. Anything odd about your foot in that spot? Maybe it was triggered by your foot measurements.
-
I like the white. What's with the added composite section just behind the toes?
-
I remember it being tricky last time I did it. I think I just went through with clicking the "change" prompt on the image in my profile.
-
The more I hear the more excited I am about this skate. But, then, don't you think an avatar change is in order @GiancarloSFL?
-
Sweet. Have you skated on them? How do they feel?
-
That's a really nice looking skate, especially with the CF outsole--how did you get that, is it an option with Graf customs?
-
I liked Paajarvi's development last year. It looked like he finally realized he's faster than most defensemen and can simply take the puck wide with his big reach. I do see him as a second line forward, if not fully this year, then probably next year. His development looks like Bill Guerin or Todd Bertuzzi. Sometimes power forwards take a while to get it at the new level. Plus, I think he was all speed when he was younger, and that's what got him drafted so high. Now he's realizing he's both big and fast. There just wasn't room for him in Edmonton to get up to speed. Not like Edmonton was a really stable place for anyone to develop anyway.

GiancarloSFL, thanks for the new photos! It's an interesting tendon assembly. Also, I love how the shots of the middle to top eyelets show just how form fit the wrapping of the boot is to your foot. I love the feeling of broken in wrapping like that on my Graf boots...this new look has me even more interested in these.
-
Man, that sounds uncomfortable, bet it feels nice now. It may not be pretty but it's easy to forget right away. I had the same reaction when I got my Vapor 8's punched way out to accomodate my heel shape and the nasty Haglund's I had developed from not knowing how to fit skates when I started playing. The shots you took of the skate are amazing. That frontal shot really shows how much the boot wraps, and I can see much better now how it locks you in with very little lacing pressure. I'm really curious about the inside of the boot heel/tendon guard area. Teasingly, it's just out of frame on shots 5 and 6; could you take a shot of that area? Also, how high does the boot come on your ankle compared to your previous skates?
-
I see what you mean. That's frustrating. Hopefully it gets better from here. If I were in that situation, I'd be thinking the same thing, about making a swap.
-
Yeah, it sounds like you've given it a fair shot. I'm curious though, when you're rolling edges, do you mean you're hitting the holder and losing your edge when turning, or does it feel like the edge just doesn't hold for the same hollow and radius?
-
The steel is supposed to take more to get its first edge (I think Chadd posted this), but once it's there, it's supposed to hold that edge really well. Maybe it needs a more thorough sharpening?
-
True, but (showing my work below...) I just remember $1000 for complete custom skates from the first word from SVH. I guess that meant with the holder+steel, so they're -$100 from that earlier projection. With custom speed boots at $1500 (and the old video featuring margarine molding saying $1200), it just seemed like $800 was a deal.
-
Jaw dropped--I was expecting more expensive for customs. Sweet.

Yeah, I'm still interested in these too. I'd gladly take a Lagerfeld over what other companies have been putting out. Seriously though, I'm excited about the recent speed skate technology and knowhow bleeding over into hockey, and I'll definitely get a pair of VH boots if I can afford to later this year. I'm excited to see how these play for people.
-
The more I look at these, the harder it is to resist the notion that Karl Lagerfeld contributed to their cosmetics.
-
What holder did you go with? (More of a cosmetic question.) How high are the Alkali boots compared to the old Mission Flyweights / sN00 Series? Sorry for the game of 20 questions!

I love the look of the new boots, and I also liked the previous models. Do you know of anyone wearing these on ice? Would there be any concern about doing that? I'm really impressed by the gloves too.

MLX and Scott Van Horne have videos on how to do this on YouTube too.

Definitely not ideal, but any effect on marketshare would be closer to my mind in the release date debate, especially if I know the market leader's new release is coming soon. On the other side, supporting your argument, Easton's skate releases have been perceived as problematically hasty, so this is just in keeping with that character.

Similar to the original M+M too:

Aha, I thought that was an unusual colorway, looks good though. I can see silver working well too.
-
That's pretty funny. It disqualifies it as chirping in my mind too. Just sounds like someone's a little jealous I was excited to find these and have had my eyes on a pair for years. They impressed me just on initially trying them on. Can't wait to get them on the ice. Now to find a quality sharpener in Copenhagen! Great look. I love the midnight/navy with columbia/light blue combination. U-Maine's uniforms have always been my favorite.

I'm going to get them baked at West Side Skate and Stick, but already they feel pretty nice. They remind me a lot of the Vapor 8's, just much more forgiving. That Vapor 8 tongue was crap. I remember cutting a bit off it or something. These things make me want to skate barefoot, which I usually don't do. I'd like to see how these compare in weight to the non-Bauer high end skates today. With a different holder setup, these seem like they could be quite competitive; the "driveshaft" feels massive, pulling the center of gravity to itself noticeably in my hand. I could go for a Supreme skate cut lower, with that suppleness built in...maybe I'll end up with one of Graf's imitative skates (G3 or 75 ultra, 9035 or something). I always look at their skates and wonder how much weight they build into those rather bulky outsoles. It seems they can't or just haven't been able to make the jump to lower profiles there, and no one else is even close to that traditional of a build in that area.

Old's cool: New Old Stock Mission Amp Flyweight S, vintage 2000. I missed the cut of Mission's old boots with the three vertical eyelets--I rolled around in some Proto V's for years until the toe box on one boot split open. These are sweet. I love the look, the materials feel great, the tongue is incredibly plush and they're stiff down low yet very pliable up top. Can't wait to try them out. I'm just a little bummed the pitch3's on my old, unused s400's (size 11 / 46) are 288 and these notoriously bad holders are 280, but the boot fit's better in the Flyweight. Maybe I'll put CXN's on when I can. I know Mission used to say skate size = boot size, but that only works for me if I look at the European size, where I'm usually a 45. This 45 Mission as a 10 comes nowhere near my shoe size, where I can go down to an 11 if I ignore advice about room for the toes, but then that's likely due to all of that manufacturer inconsistency.
