  1. Neither CSA nor VA or any of the helmet manufacturers can answer the question so this question has zero to do with it. Its a fact that no helmet will ever reduce rotational impact. I think its time all of the people mentioned print that out so everyone can see it and not say they are working on something when they clearly cant prevent it. As for an ax to grind ....simply stating facts about how the testing was done and it is not really related to how hockey is played according to all the ones that have looked at the research that are in the hockey industry. If it be helmet makers CSA HECC Hockey USA. So ax to grind NO.....forwarding creditable information from people in the know with far more medical information than myself YES. While Duma has the right idea working with HECC CSA and other people like HOCKEY USA and HOCKEY CANADA I think would have made his testing pass the "smell test" ......
  2. I am curious how a helmet will stop or reduce rotational impact. The largest portion of hockey concussions.
  3. I can post one in 3 weeks??? I deleted the one I had on my phone. I have a pair at the shop.
  4. New Toe Cap on size 7 to 10 .....more coming.....
  5. And that is very correct. Back when Mr Ericsonn was here as I have mentioned before Jimmy he said that exact thing that the 71226 would be more of a Euro thing as NA has a smaller rinks and more of a start and stop game in comparison.
  6. But Jimmy the thing I don't like about the post that was quoted is that the Detroit players do not use that profile as the mainstay. So it is kind of misleading.
  7. Excellent points. My understanding from the creator is that you buy a good fitting helmet and us this as added protection for impact? Wondering with the material used and the gel pads if it could slow rotational impact by absorbing? Also spoke to the Warrior rep today. I find it funny for a company that has the "Safest Helmet" that they were not contacted (according to Warrior) at all about the study and how they managed to get the highest rated helmet? Only the other companies that poorly rated helmets were talked to?
  8. Www.nogginsport.com Thoughts? Would this change the helmet you buy? Would this have impacted the study data?
  9. SK20 I had that one with the plastic mouth guard piece and no cage or visor!! Awesome helmet!
  10. We haven't done that for years now. Coach wanted it as it looked good. I explained how most kids couldn't wear just any helmet had him try on one he wanted to see the kids wear and didn't fit by a long shot. Hence the kids got what fitted best and I checked all the fits. Our Jr and Midget teams have only lost 3 players to concussions in 5 years now. (Meaning there issues from our season and prior made them have to quit hockey)
  11. No. Fit is the key thing here. While any improvement to testing to reduce injury where possible is a fantastic (CSA and HECC are both working with rotational injury reduction and have been for 2 years) idea even with the results of the VT testing much more research is needed. Even more so with what causes the severity in some and the lesser in others. There is so much to be learned, to base the VT results as gospel is not a good idea. While the helmet makers in all sports would love to have a helmet that fits and performs well and passes the mirror test its pretty difficult task. It is all about finding that materiel that will absorb the most like a Poron from Bauer and finding something that works with it for comfort fit and weight.
  12. http://www.bloomberg.com/news/features/2015-01-28/the-controversial-safety-ratings-that-sell-football-helmets This is actually a very good article on the page on the right. Publicity for the STAR (Summation of Tests for the Analysis of Risk) ratings has helped attract money and students to Virginia Tech’s engineering college, Duma says. “Everybody involved in every sport has come to talk to us,” he says. The program doesn’t take donations from helmet makers, though the university requires it to charge fees when manufacturers seek testing for their own development purposes. Duma forbids his staff from testifying in helmet litigation. “I could stop right now and be a millionaire doing that,” he says.
  13. This is sad. Now with improper fitting helmets the first person to get blamed will be the fitter because they didn't sway them away from the improper fit. I think it is time now all companies, Warrior especially should stand up and say only buy our helmet if it fits you properly and consult with your store expert. But as you said the Damage is done now.
  14. They have to be on the board. But there are way to many people that can out vote a change they wish to make if we all don't agree. I really do not appreciate your tone and saying that I would let a company influence if I think a product is unsafe.
  15. I have always like the 5100 and felt it was the most comfortable and fit the majority of heads. Both my kids use this helmet and neither have been injured at all so far. However that says they haven't been hit hard enough yet maybe?
  16. Let us see if we can agree on a few main points. 1. Any testing that would result in a better product is good. 2. The manufactures while aiming to make profit are doing so with the intention and the knowledge and the R and D to make a safe product. 3. There is at this time no way a hockey helmet will prevent, or lesson the possibility of a ROTATIONAL impact concussion. (IE the Crosby hit in the outdoor game). I think everyone here is an agreement on this.
  17. Yes you are 100% correct. Hence that is why you are seeing less "we have a better fit" to the safety features themselves and more you should buy the best fit. The headform issue in my mind is very key. When your doing rotational impact testing there is no way a hockey helmet will do well at the present state. But the way VT wants to fix it is to make the helmet the size and style of a football helmet. Well that is were you run into neck issues. Helmets can not be bigger for neck strength issues. And again the companies have been working on this for years now. We have worked on headforms that would possibly work better for rotational testing and tons more. PS all the above are my own opinions and do are not the thoughts of the CSA in anyway shape or form. Some general information may have been learned by CSA but are public record.
