  1. Actually all retailers my clients dealt with were told (as of I believe but will check that as of last march) it is now only 90 days even if the skate was of a later model. And only a few had the holders replaced at no cost. In fact one lady did contact Mississauga and was sent a letter saying her skates that were 6mths old roughly maybe 8 ( and this is a 40'ish year old lady playing once a week) that her holder would not be replaced as per the 90 day warranty that is now applicable. I can send you a copy of that if you wish. As for the other person with the comment about me telling people they should go with LS2 (yes that is correct) but I never have said i used vice grips, I do not have a pair in my shop. Listen I am being respectful and giving Bauer the opportunity to correct issues and have not come on here and told anyone that they are garbage and they should go to something completely different. I have said I prefer the LS2 as I FEEL IMO that is a better product and Step Steel is a better quality blade and much easier to sharpen. I have had much better success with the JR, OHL, NCAA, AHL, and NHL players I work with using the LS2 and Step combination. Period.
  2. Well that would explain it. So I was not wrong for the most part as there must be a fair bit of flushing to be done because I have not seen any LS2 that looks comparable. Most I see is on mid price point skates that a year old to the customer or were purchased as older inventory on sale. I do not sell skates at my shop but do help clients get fitted at other stores and we always go LS3 or Step anyway. This would explain why I have not seen this improved steel. I personally feel that the LS2 is still too short in height and has been for a while even back in LS2 Holders. I was glad to see the LS3 and even more glad to see the LS4 steel. I am also much happier with the new Edge holder making the channel tighter. Still having issues with some JR ones but I am sure that will be fixed down the road. I would however like to be able to purchase the trigger hard ware to do the repairs on them instead of selling a customer a new holder when it is only 6 months old. That is frustrating.
  3. I really don't think I have to? Look at the blades side by side and tell me they are the same? Then sharpen both.
  4. That would be correct LS2 is not the same quality as the LS3. Its very easy to tell by sharpening it. I am very much looking forward to getting the LS4 so I can get all my clients out of the 3's and 2's they are in now. Still prefer Step and regular LS2 Holders but not much choice now.
  5. Very disappointed they kept the fusion steel. Should have gone LS3 and 4 on higher end skates and LS2 on lower and just got rid of that Stainless what ever steel. Love the fact they have seemed to fix the Sr holder for tightness with the trigger still have issues with JR. Really like the Prodigy line of gear! Probably the best part of the whole catalog. We need to get more kids in the game!
  6. It will be different but that is a personal decision. With Profiling and pitch adjustments (using the pitch holder as well as profiling) you maybe able to get it to feel similar. I only go with longer holders when there is a balance issue. I wont just do it for the fun of it. I know you can go with more blade on a shorter holder but all my clients that have balance issues that I change the holders for prefer the longer holder shorter profile. Example: Had a player get new skates at school at RMU. they are a grinder type player and need the balance to battle. The old 5.5 skates they had had 254 stock holders. The new skates had a 246 but looked good on the skates. However no matter what they did profile wise they didn't feel right and the player hasn't used them at all in games. They came home for the break switched to the 254 and it was like a light switch and they feel perfectly fine. It is all about making the player perform the best with the best amount of blade for that player!
  7. Lets see if I can figure out how to upload a pic...LOL Ok so much for that...I guess I will have to use the link to a pretty awesome pair of skates I just finished!! If your into the whole RedbullCrashedIce Craze.... https://www.facebook.com/ProSkateCorner/photos/a.182247761921842.62567.177972529016032/562271273919487/?type=1&theater
  8. Hey I am not saying it wouldn't happen, I have done skates for guys. But I was also informed in a couple cases that the trainer put them back the way he wanted them regardless of what had been done and how much the player liked them. Ces la vie ( I think thats how its goes?)...LOL I know of Cooke doing that as well but that was during the lockout. If guys do their own that is different. I know of a 3 time stanley cup champion that brought a guy to his hotel room to do skates during his last cup run. Owner found out and made him bring the guy in and ended up paying his as a "consultant". The guy even ended up getting a ring after they won. And he did about 3 or 4 guys skates on the team because they were not happy with the main guy. But these are all few and far between. Most show trainers will do what the guy asks for. If they don't and the player is a high profile guy he won't have a job very long. As far as FBV goes I was one of the first on it after Cory Stillman in Florida and before you guys got to try it in I think it was Detroit that year. I personally really like it however not really skating anymore due to concussions I have not been able to try some of the newer cuts. I think I am going to try and get back on the ice soon even if just for some stick and puck. (Helmet Strap nice and tight)!
  9. Although I agree with the first part that most teams have the ability to do it as some players like it and have come from teams that use it. I know that the Islanders most guys use it there just because of working with some of the players. Now your second part I highly doubt unless it is this same team, (as just mentioned) as Doug Weights father does some skates for those guys and the trainers know him. I doubt any players are having blades shipped out for sharpening to many legal issues unless the trainer is doing it himself shipping to get that done.
  10. I was curious and looked it up for here to confirm. You could start in a pro shop at 14 but can't shapren till you 15. However you can work on a farm at any age. (even more so of course if it is family). Sorry for going off topic but thought it is interesting. Maybe its own thread?
  11. Flat spots or shiny spots when it has been pressed too hard against the grinding wheel.
  12. Is that just in the US? As it is not the case here in Canada? Would that also go for working on a farm? (Kind of curious and sorry off topic.)
  13. Going to have to disagree with you on this. Mainly for the women in hockey (or guys with smaller feet such as my son). There was a very large improvement with both ladies on my team last year. They were both decent skaters. But one had gone from a 6.5 to a 5.5 and the other from a 5.5 to a 4 in skate size. Both were used to the longer blade on the boots they were in although they didnt fit. After finding the best holder size for both they both maintained the speed they had with the old skates but were much more maneuverable. (Both Players were on Team Canada Captain and Asst) In my son's case it just made him much more sturdy at 4'10" and 100lbs at 10 years old in a 1.5 skate and regular 212 holder. When he went to a 2.5 I went to a 230 and he doesn't fall near as much with a stock radius on step. The one I did the largest change was for a US National Team player that was 5'0" and 140 wearing a 1.5 skate. She was ranked 4th fastet on the team at the time and US beat Canada that year in the Worlds. She wore a 230 Tuuk old style on the 1.5. My experiences.
  14. Luckily I have a few more days till I start class again. First time in 20 something years. Although doing it online from the shop so shouldn't be to hard. And wasn't that expensive. Luckily the shop is heated well for this -30 plus weather. Better then out west at -50 in Winterpeg!
  15. Deal with this all the time. Only once did we let the younger player up and realized after even though she was very mature the language and topics discussed in the dressing room (although I am sure u14 is not near as bad as being 12 on a U19 team) Still the comparison would be similar. I would have to put the foot down on this. It would be difficult for both but if its for more then a one time event then no the 10 year old will have to wait. That being said if it's for more then one game then no. Sorry. Just my 2 cents. (many years in girls hockey!)
  16. hummm need to learn how to upload photos!

  17. Seeing as I do not sell skates anymore I am happy to assist in a fitting for people in the GTA. I can offer fitting advice and a possible shop in your area to try on some different models. So far things have worked very well for those getting their new skates!
  18. The testing initially was done here in Toronto for it and there was marginal differences in the speed and such. the guys that did like it and had it switched to them was like its ok but not like they had to have it. I think the main issue with it in the testing was that they put everyone on 7-13 and the ZC and expected guys to just take to it. as mentioned before in another spot even the owner agreed that was probably not the best idea as the gues were used to a shorter combo radius. So if that was done with the ZC they actually may have noticed a larger difference and in one players case they would have had to get it as he was a star player on that team. I always believe when there is an issue you have to see that person skate check all the variables there is no magic fix and no one profile or sharpen that works for everyone. I have my go to profiles and hollows i start with and go from there. As one player stated today to me " I am going back to what got me here. I am getting X skate from the store going with it because it feels good I was trying to out think myself in sticks and skates, so were starting from scratch and I will drop them off to you wed." a good tough AHL player that had a decent season last year but was trying to over tweek everything. Starting wed he will be back to pretty much stock everything curve and skates and do minor tweeks until it feels good again. Sorry was closing up and was on a role there. I shouldn't post late at night..........lol
  19. I have been working with it for 3 years IMO there are some benefits as mentioned for some and there is a study being done this year vs FBV and ROH sharpening when that is complete and there is proof that it actually offers a larger than 5% increase in speed then I will jump on the bandwagon. I would never deter a player from getting it as long as they use the profile they are used to and we figure out the hollow they are most comfortable with using the channel. As of right now I have one player using it (here dad is an investor in the company so......) others have tried and didn't really feel the difference. NHL players that had it done while skating in Toronto had the blades removed last season at camp as the trainers involved did not want to deal with more products. That being said some are now using Pro Sharp machines to do the Profiles to save themselves time so we will see as mentioned how it goes. I will just sit and wait before investing in my own machine as I have access to Pro Sharp and ZC blades from the supplier here.
  20. I dont play anymore I did have custom Graf Inline boots (I think I still have them) with Redstar chasis and wheels.
  21. https://fbcdn-sphotos-g-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/295337_255916707888280_894774485_n.jpg This is one and I have a goal skate that looks pretty awesome as well! These are so much fun to do!
  22. Is it just me or is the holder and issue for measuring for the profile? It seems to have a dip in the middle. I thought it was a bad pair but just did another pair and the same thing. Thoughts?
