Pavel Barber Statement on Profiles
oldtrainerguy28 replied to BenBreeg's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
1. I realize that totally. I own both the Toronto and LA locations now and we hired Pavel after he did the videos that went Viral in Toronto for LA. 2. They are still on the Bock U website. 3. As way back when I said the original Edge holder needed a deeper channel IMO the vapor needs a solid outsole like the new shadow to put the player back to center if not forward. To many shooting off the heel in Vapor. -
Pavel Barber Statement on Profiles
oldtrainerguy28 replied to BenBreeg's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
Ben, 1. Sorry that the profile video wasn't up to snuff for you. It was mainly meant to just be an overview of the feel of each profile in his opinion. He is not a skating coach and does not profess to be, 2. Yes it was me that participated in the sharpening/profiling of the study but I was not in contact with the participants while on the ice doing the drills. I have no knowledge of there feedback. Except when it was it done. 3. So glad the skate change made it better I can not go on enough about making sure the boot fit is the correct one before getting the profile done. Its is the game changer when getting profiling work done. -
Elite Blade Performance Technology
oldtrainerguy28 replied to Elite Blade Performance's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
It all depends on the wear of the wheel. If it's at the beginning of its life it's more rough. Middle to end no issues. That's why I use the honing machine. -

VH Footwear/TRUE by Scott Van Horne

I am going to skip over the other pages and just ask you to DM about the fit issues. -
Well its not Red Dog Hockey boost from what I can tell. If it was it would probably not all be the same on both players on both skates. Looks to me like issue with hitting the boot so they raised the it by shims. No other real purpose if both players are exactly the same.

Skate profiling, and why would it help me?
oldtrainerguy28 replied to bvictor's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
I need to see the toe and heel blend and I can see what kind of shape the blade is in roughly. -

Actually why don't you post a picture of the blade then we can see what we are working with instead of guessing you need this or that? -

Anything with an aggressive pitch such as that 5 11 13 is a bad idea when starting. keep it simple. 9 or 10 single. The best thing about a profile is that both blades will be the same. start simple get comfy and then change slowly. -

I agree 100% -
Yes but awful structure. Broke down faster than anything.
-
not a bad suggestion. and next to no flex on the old ls2. good point

To much blade removed and to much pitch. imo -
No trade off. That's why on edge holders the blade flexes after a few months. The XS will but usually takes longer. But from the start better energy transfer.

I knew that would work out well. Not a fan of any of the other Quads. -

All excellent points. Prior to delving into profiling and making adjustments skate fit is the number one thing that needs to be done. 2nd is blade alignment. You could tinker all day on profile with a good fitting boot but have a badly mounted holder that would ruin everything. See it every day. From NHL guys and NCAA girls that I would work every summer. -
I can. Tested it when it came out. Been swapping guys for the last 3 years.

If your toe is touching in a 7 then you have mostly likely a width issue. Pull the insoles and see how much room is in front of the marks from your toes. This pretty much all I do all day long. I actually haven't seen many orginal fits work with the Bauer scanner when it first came out but definitely seeing much better fits as of late.

Your 7 is to big. The scan is correct.

You do realize the "thumbnail test" has zero correlation to whether or not the skate is properly sharpened? -
Well except for this past summer I have worked with him every summer since he made the show and I have never not seen him in Step steel and on a combo. So there is that and take it for what it is. As for the Tour i sure hope something happens but I do not see it being likely at this time. Maybe 2022? As for the whole leave laces loose theory I have done extensive treadmill work with high end clients and players as in the one study that were in True vs there old skates had much better forward flexion even doing them all the way up. As it said in the one study the Mako was the best fitting and performing skate even when done up. So seeing as that skate and True are based on the same idea that would ring true to the video I have shot with clients. And I know Dr Lockwood (former business partner) would agree that fit is paramount. Proper fit means laces can be done up snuggly and still have the correct amount of forward flexion for optimal performance.

McDavid is on a combo. Has been since Minor Midget. Funny to is that he cranks his skates. Just doesn't use the top and is shin pad over.
