Blackstone Flat-Bottom V Thread

What I was implying was not the use of the "medium" forward pitch, 8/13 compound radius(that would be what you are claiming I implied). I was implying a common use of a compound radius with a forward pitch, in general. FBV Hollows I know have myself. And I am sure more to come. 100/75 90/75 100/50 90/50 and I believe there is an 80/50 If I can just comment on the compound Radius. IMOP if your going to do something like a 7/14. I personally feel to much blade will disappear to quickly when sharpening. I have only done a few and haven't had a ton of positive response. Although I am very much in agreement behind the compound radius. -

I have no idea you would have to ask SAK as I do not work with those guys at all. I am hoping to get one at Scarborough for next season! -

Your experience is odd, we've found that skaters are actually getting more interval between sharpenings. There are so many variables involved, so it's kind of hard to actually quantify, I guess time will tell. As for my customers (another 82 converted this week) I haven't had anyone come in earlier for re-sharpening (although that would be nice for $$$ in my pocket) than usual. We've renamed the FBV, the UFB! Un (you insert word here) Believable! Oh, ... Fence?? That's so 1970's! Jimmy, not sure if its the Ice here or the grit and grime around the rink. But even with my own team I have found not that it needs it more but I am doing it the same amount for my players although I have to do half the passes as I did before. Although travelling to some of the rinks watching ref's and players I have done and talking to them the most common thing is they wish there was a 95/75..... Hint to you know who.,.....! -

MNPucker - I also have recently bought the X02 machine and I seem to be running into the same problem as you. I am also new to sharpening, but when I switch from skate to skate the holder seems to be drastically off. Any one have any help here? Thanks. As all I do is teach sharpening I would say adjusting maybe something to to do with it BUT the largest problem with new sharpeners is they dont clamp each skate exactly the same way! It does take some practice and I wuld suggest using an old skate. Clamp the skate in the holder do some passes till the spark looks correct and full and then take it off and re-clamp. and start over! Feel free to message me. I am sure Steve wont mind I will just bill him for the time...LOL -

I am wondering if you accidentally got the 100/75 and not the 95/75.I dont get that feeling at all. I coach with a guy that played for the Flames and he just loves it. He wished he had it back when he played! We were just gliding and talking and I asked how he licked it and we just kept gliding...he started laughing.... -

Must have been your guys first visit to N54 if he thought it a good place to start a discussion thread on this sharpening method OTG. You got off easy, try switching teams as a 10 year old and having adults rip the kid annonomously. My son still comes home from school and asks if anyone wrote anything about him-truly sad. Classmates misguided parents allow their kids to read that site. Parents have challenged each other to fight on that site without the thread being locked. Best to let the thread on N54 die off, nothing positive ever comes from threads there. The OMHA forum requires a registered nick, far more civil and informative. Some very good sharpeners frequent the Pro Shop forum there-may be a better site to reach hockey parents in Ontario. The guy who did our skates at National Sports Hwy7-Keele (Concord?)store was knowledgable-followed our blades profile carefully if any Toronto west members are looking to try this cut. I ran powerskating class last night so had a chance to really experiment. Anyone doubting the effect on 'glide' try this; Backwards, seated glide. I thought I noticed the skate glide in my normal stride, definetly feel it one 1 leg elevated glides btw B-lines....but the seated glide frontwards and backwards really shows this cuts impact on drag/resistance. Well that's really great to hear you liked it. And glad to hear the staff was helpful. If you wouldn't mind passing that on the office via the website that would be greatly appreciated. And please let others know about it and the benefits you have felt. -

Lefty, had the same issue on the first sharpening but on the second one it isnt an issue. I believe it may take the 2nd sharpening to have the blades set up properly. I will also have the guys do a couple other passes when changing a sharpening from a "normal" to FBV. -

Ok guys for real now is there anyone that does NOT like the way this system works? Had anyone of your customers want the old sharpening back? I want to know getting flack on another board!!! ANYONE??? I've followed this thread since inception and have yet to see one complaint. The only people have a neutral comment are those that expected more bite and didn't get it, but definitely felt more glide. No increased bite was noticed because of the deep hollow they used on traditional sharpening. What message board is saying this is a stupid idea? I'd like to read their reasoning. . . http://www.network54.com/Forum/485659/thre...from+Blackstone PS dont direct those guys back here....we wouldnt want a gang of thugs messing up the boards here....but listen to some of the garbage these parents spew. Now just so you know one of my guys at one of our stores was the first person in the thread the rest are just people from the Toronto Area. maybe some feedback from "PEOPLE THAT HAVE A CLUE" would help these know it all's in the Greater Toronto Area. Just burns my drawers that they believe a Rocket scientist needs to be working on there skates when it is something that just is common sense more glide you go faster??? DUHHHH "These guys are running this infomercial on every hockey web site. I would try it except I saw a kids skates needing new steel half way thru last season, he had a National Sport skate sharpening card. Really, you get skates profiled for $20-30 and then let just any kid at a big box store go at them? Trace your skates profile on a peice of paper, go to hacks for sharpening a few times and then hold the trace against your steel. A sharpener in the west end is famous for making less steel touch the ice, by mid season he is grinding plastic holders front and back." This is the best comment so far does anyone have a clue what they are saying?? -

Awesome to hear keep us updated on anything as you get used to it! -
Hey move to Toronto I will hire you.......LOL. Now thats the way all employee's should think. Try to earn there business. A good salesperson will outsell the cost everythime. Example: I want to go buy skate X online can you fit me. Sure can. Guy gets socks off look at feet Sir/Maam that skate will not fit you let me show you why. They try on Skate Y and its the same price as X on sale online.......guess what there buying.....Y. Unless they just are not smart.....and that happens. But I bet the above poster sells Y's all day long and is a top sales person.

Hands up if you want it?? Living in Whitby OTB, looking forward to trying this FBV. My son won't let anyone but Dave at Pro Cut touch his skates-is I convince him to try it we'll take a drive to Markham. The Shwa store isn't listed/....I run ice there weekly. Well Oshawa wouldnt be getting it unless I find a great deal on a machine somewhere. As for driving to Markham I am sorry about that but ask for Dan, Tim, Joel, Oscar. They are all highly proficient at Sharpening and will do the 100/75 and I will bet he wont want to go back to anything else after that. In fact I have a stack of 10 free ones says so. Not just the guys doing the job but the fact that this sharpening is just that much better than anyone else can do unless you have this machine. for any that don't believe being its a box store and all I would say call Glen Sharpley in Haliburton. Former NHL player that has his own shop. If that doesnt convince you nothing will. Quote " I used to skate for an hou take shifts like everyone else. First time with this I was on for the whole hour........and no I mean I never came off I wasnt tired and I am 54." (he may be 53 I cant remember the age exactly). -
