I like a lot of you know that STEP no longer makes Blades for the LS EDGE holder, but I have been seeing them pop up hear and there. mostly on Ebay ( with crazy mark ups).

I just can't see myself wearing CCM skates but I Miss having STEP on my Bauers

Dose anyone have any advice for Buying Hockey gear on Ebay?

I found this add on Ebay and they have the best price I have seen since STEP stopped producing the blades. (and it's in canadain dollars so it is under the regular retail for the US)

    https://www.ebay.ca/itm/STEP-STEEL-BLACKSTEEL-STEDGE-272-multiple-sizes-available/383654131552?hash=item5953917760:g:aicAAOSwktNfIM5Q

    What are your thoughts?

should I pull the trigger ( no pun intended) or would it be best to try and source a pair at a hockey shop?

    Thanks,

    Jordan

Just switch to XS holders.  Problem solved.

All the black you want then.

Aligned as in re-drill holes in the boot to move the holder?  I'd rather not try drilling my boot and I'm not sure there is a shop anywhere near me I'd trust to do the work properly.  My other pair of skates have the heel post shimmed and it has helped.  Plan was to do the same with this new pair.

Shimming a holder that may not be aligned properly is setting yourself up for a lot of extra work

This is what I am talking about.  My feet naturally pronate.  So my default stance has me on my inside edge, not neutral over the blade.  What I lack is the "control" over that rotation, as @Vet88 mentions.  What I am trying to get to is a neutral stance over the blade as a default, so I can then tell my body, inside or outside edge or flat, instead of having it "decided" for me and having to overcompensate to change that orientation.   .

Gatorade bottle, milk jug, plastic binder cover... wish I had waited before handing Jeff Bezos my money for a sheet of LDPE...

Have you aligned the blades first or leaving then as mounted?

Sorry to resurrect this old topic. With the damn virus we have been sharpening friends skates a good bit in addition to three family members. If anybody had the Prosharp Home for a couple of years how do the springs hold up? I am noticing on Spare what used to take 2 - 3 now takes 4 or more. Ring does not put enough pressure on the blade. Anything hard (only tried step and massive) 2 times 10 passes (max) on SPARX and it barely made a dent before shutting down of overheating. Unit is two years old. Like an old printer, there is nothing to repair. They offered us discount on a new unit. We do sharpen primarily goalie skates. Thanks all. Stay healthy.

I had to use for one of my players it was a couple years in when I got it. Was a solid machine but I only did the one pkayers skates. If I had to use one that would be my choice.

    The plot thickens...

Actually not really after reading the acquisition article.  2 different technologies just happened to know be owned by Mips. Now if they add Fluid Inside to the Mips rotational system then it gets very interesting.

At the end of the day if everyone wearing a helmet is safer and it doesn't cost 1000 for a helmet.... isn't it just better for all?

bigquotesThe acquisition is primarily part of our strategic plan to increase our patent protection and is an acknowledgment of our position as the world leader in brain protection systems within helmet-based safety. We are also very enthusiastic about strengthening our relationship with University of Ottawa and to further increase our knowledge within team sports.Max Strandwitz, CEO of MIPS

    What?

And what about the VT test?

It isn't a legal testing program. It's a study group that says they can test helmets and gives its proposed ratings on helmets based on testing methods that are not used by anyone else.

Not the companies and not the 3 certification boards that actually certify helmets.

I'm not repeating everything I have already written it's in the thread about the testing.

Well he has never had a concussion, even taking on dudes who were 6+ ft tall and over 250lbs (he's 5'7 and 152 lbs just turned 16) but at the same time he has never had a big ass contusion on his forehead from a nothing hit either so ya, weird. He said the helmet sucks and he's sticking with his re-akt 1st Gen.

So I think we got it. You think it sucks.

It was a 'nothing' hit, very low speed, but all I'm saying is that he's been playing for almost 10 yrs and nothing close to this has ever happened but the very first time he used the True lid... Anyhow the True lid sucked for HIM, but again it would probably be great for anyone who plays beer league or no-contact pick up.

Well it sure sounded like it was a hard hit. And from the mark's I would say if he didnt have a concussion then the helmet did its job?

If you and your son dont like it and you feel it sucks that's purely up to you.

I was just answering the questions asked.

Well, it's obviously my personal opinion after watching my son almost have a concussion wearing his True lid for the first time in a game...  Check out the previous thread 'New True LId' Pg 4...

Yes I have read it. I have seen worse with a similar helmet from another company.

Seemed like it was a pretty freak hit.

I don't think MIPS is exclusively in TRUE, it is for now, but didn't think there was an exclusivity deal there.

    Pretty sure it is.

MIPS has been burned by both CCM and Bauer. Not sure why they would go away from True in hockey anyways.

Other sports there in a ton of different brands. But highly doubt that will change in hockey.

Yeah it's hard to tell on the internet. I have never seen such a thing. There was a shop on the island that would mount roller chassis to an ice boot and they would keep the holders and runner in exchange for the labor. In essence, to didn't pay a fee for the mount, just the ice skates and chassis. Nowadays it's not a great deal, but 17-18 years ago when reselling a holder was a lot harder, it was more worth it

100% I still do that sometimes depending on what it is.

If you're just trying to make a point, then point taken. The thing is, True did used to allow you to purchase boots only and True had pretty much made their reputation in skates based on customization, so I do think it has given people a different expectation for what True will do to help a customer customize their skates above what Bauer out CCM would do. That said, they obviously have other calculations to make, so I understand making you buy the holders even if you don't want them mounted.

If you're sincerely asking, my guess is that they might do it for pros but I doubt they would do it for the avg. Joe. I used to get undrilled Mission ice boots years ago. They came through a teammate, but I definitely wasn't the only one. I would imagine that most people who played roller remember undrilled Mission flyweights or amp 2 carbons with eframes

Not trying to make any point at all all. I have not ordered CCM or Bauer for 10 years so I do not know. As for True selling Boot only well not installed yes I do know that. I have sold a few pairs.

But yes I was simply asking if Bauer and CCM did it.
