Weird and doesn't make sense. If you pay for the product full price you should get everything, is holder and steel but not mounted.

They must have changed things since last year bc when I ordered mine I asked for the holders not to be mounted and the holes to be drilled for an 4.0 holders, and that's what I got. Holder and steel on the side not mounted, which I ended up selling on the side.

If they won't include the shift holders and you're paying full price that's BS.  It's actually less work for them mounting the holders on, yet they are charging you the same.

Well if you ordered a pair of Bauer's or CCM's would they put on Shift holders if you asked?

Or if you ordered CCM and asked for Edge or ordered Bauer and asked for XS holders?

Is it possible that they are doing this for dealers but not direct to consumer anymore?

It's odd because I have heard for a while now, from all different avenues, that they not longer sell boot only.

I'm glad to hear what you're saying, just confused as to why True is telling people the opposite. Saves me a pile of money and the headache of trying to resell the shift holders. Are they offering that option for the TF9/7 as well, or is it just for custom boots?

Just to clarify you can order holders not attached but there is  no difference in price. You buy the Custom skate with shift holders or without still the same price.

And yes I checked with the office they had a couple new people over the last few months hence the confusion.

    Hope that clears that up.

I spoke to some lady who answered the phone at True and she put me on hold to verify that indeed they will ship WITH holder uninstalled and u at full price regardless.

Well I can tell you she's wrong.  It says it right on the new order sheet.

"If you ask for a 3rd party holder to be installed or blades not mounted the Shift holder and steel will NOT be included" .

I believe this had changed and he's right. I was also told this by True shortly before the covid lockdown. I never ended up getting into the shop for a scan before everything shut down. I was planning to buy the boots for roller chassis mount so I have absolutely no need for holders

I'm a pretty large dealer volume wise and I know they wont.

Spoke to True today confirming you can still order boot ONLY, with or without holes drilled for holder, but they will ship skates out WITH True holders uninstalled and you still have to pay full price. Pretty lame if you ask me, since if I don't want the holders, why must I pay for them if True offers boots only?!

That's incorrect.  If you order boot only you get boot only. No holders and steel are shipped.

Not sure who you spoke to.

I was told this by an MD during my time on a quarantine ambulance during all this. One aspect of the mask recommendation was to slow the rate of self transmission, as in touching a dirty grocery cart, then your mouth, nose, eyes. Does it look silly, yes. Does it work, arguably for the time you're wearing it, yes. But people will do it habitually as soon as the mask is off.

Oh I know one of my trainers is a rehab therapist in a Covid unit. She hasn't been able to work because she has been at the hospital. And now had to have back surgery. But we took our shop/training protocols from the Covid rehab therapy unit.

It's strictly about slowing transmission that's all.

Here is NY there was definitely 70+ days of lockdown and there would still be a lockdown if the govt has their druthers. The only reason not is because people simply stopped listening (and the George Floyd protests only accelerated that).

Anyway, 70 days indoors makes health worse? Maybe yes, maybe no. Small apartment? Brooklyn, buddy, I'm familiar. Could be something else, sure. But it could be the masks. I'm just trying to point out that there is risk in everything and the best way to navigate risk is to be very clear about it and then with the factors and make a decision. Everyone is going to weigh and decide differently, but the facts should be clear to everyone. If we list the pros and cons we'll probably all agree.

Personally, I think that anyone who wouldn't play without a splash guard shouldn't play with one either. I don't think there is enough there to sway the decision. And anyone who would play without a splash guard is more than welcome to play with one if they so desire. But in reality once the fogging starts, I doubt most people will keep using them. Then what? Then you have a bunch of folks who are already playing, take off theiir guard and say the hell with it. That's why I don't think this should really be a factor in the decision to play or not.

And driving with N95... You'd be surprised how many people I see driving alone wearing masks in the car. I don't get it either. Even outdoors wearing a mask is of minimal value.

I dont think you understand, They were NOT allowed out with out a Govt approval. if caught you were arrested. you were not allowed out period!!

Not like the US or Canada. And 400 sq ft is a big appartment

Now throw a bunch of 35 to 55 year olds in questionable shape into the mix.

The mask we are wearing were never intended to be used during high intensity activities. At this point, I'd be more concerned with a cardiac event than I would be of covid.

I was going to reply to the above post as I have family/Business there. The article neglects to mention that these kids returning to school had been in lockdown for 70 plus days. Not like the Lockdown here in Canada and most defiantly not the USA version. The point being that if any of the 3 children that unfortunately passed away (out of the 1.4 Billion people in the country) had underlying health issues they would have been even more so after sitting inside for 70 days. And if any have been to China they know how small apartments there are.

No the N95 or surgical masks are not intended for high intensity training and most over there wear a level 1 non surgical mask or there regular filtered custom ones like here.

But I have yet to see a Surgeon wearing his mask for 12 hours in a complex surgery pass away? Sure they are exerting much physical energy but 12 hours in the same spot not moving the mask,....

As for people driving with N95 masks....use common sense......Why?

"I think this is pretty simple and sensible, and I think it will help people make better decisions, rather than relying on all of these products that are completely unproven and then mandating them for play and then completely not enforcing any of it, which is what's actually happening."

This is a very good statement!!

  9. But yet it took 5 years to shut down the others. And some are still operating.  I'd bet if they kept operating on a small scale such as just retail sales and werent massive on advertising flying low would be pretty easy.

Let's look at who got shut down? Step largest pro dealer in the world.

Tydan largest advertiser on the market.

The rest... still operating for now.

No, you sue them in the jurisdiction you are claiming they are infringing in.  So if you are claiming they are infringing a US patent, you sue them in US federal court.

So Bauer files suit in a US court to sue a company in China? Why would said company even show up? Were not talking millions of dollars....

  11. 2 minutes ago, BenBreeg said:

Pretty much.  I am not a lawyer but you take the company to federal court since it is federal law.  Similar meaning they actually feel they are violating their patent, if they don’t have IP there is no standing to sue.  That is the whole idea of intellectual property law.  If foreign countries could just flood markets with infringing products there would be no point.

IP infringement runs rampant in places like China and India but you don’t see them flooding the US markets with those goods because while some may go unnoticed or unchallenged, it is not a winning proposition.

But they would have to sue them in China?

I think everyone playing with fogged up full bubbles is probably more dangerous than this virus, not to mention it's going to create even more contact between players.

also, in China when they opened schools back up the kids played sports with masks and some actually died from it. Apparently the mask was inhibiting o2 for some kids to the point of fainting and a few kids died. I think that's more dangerous for young, healthy folks than this virus.

I think a simple test before the season and then tell people not to come if they have symptoms and that's that. Anyone who feels like it might be dangerous can always opt out for a season and see how things go. Personally, I had covid in March and I'd say that it wasn't pleasant but I've had worse flu illnesses in past years. I got the flu last year and it knocked me out harder than this. People have to make their own decisions ultimately

1 person died and it was ruled later not to be mask related.

Talking US and Canada.  I was in medical device development for 20 years very familiar with the IP challenges in China and some other countries, but you still can’t just violate IP by producing in China, being based in China, etc, and importing to  another country who enforces IP.  Sure you can sell ripped off stuff IN China, not what we are discussing.

So if a Chinese company had a product similar and sold it in Canada Bauer would try and sue the Chinese company?

My son just picked up the UltraSonic Supremes (w/stock Q0 blade). He will be skating on them in a day or so, fingers crossed he can keep the speed and agility he had with the Mako II's he has been using for years with great success. He tried the Vapor 2X pros, they were very similar fit to the Ultrasonics with FIT1 sizing (I know the FIT 1 is supposed to be the Vapor Fit and it pretty much was but not exactly, couple slight differences) but the Supremes just felt perfect for him & the Vapors had a touch more wiggle room in toebox and just a bit less snug. Interestingly, he skated in a 9 in the Mako's (admittedly probably a half size too big but worked well) and fit into a 7.5 Vapor 2X Pro, but in the UltraSonics, size 8 felt best. He put his usual 5/8 hollow on them but wondering if now is the time to switch to FBV (don't want to throw too many variables at once and he's gonna be playing in Canada so don't want him to be searching for FBV even-though the team EQ manager probably has the capability, I would think).

Far more places in Canada have FBV capabilities than in he US if I'm not mistaken.

Depending on where he is playing. Most equipment managers at a jr level use BM or BS stock machines however.  Not FBV.

Do you have sharpen skates more often if they have a more shallow hollow?  I went from a 5/8 to a more shallow 3/4 when I changed my profile to a Quad 0.5, normally I can go a long time between sharpens but now it seems I need to sharpen more often...   I am going to a different guy to sharpen skates,  that might be a reason also.

It's the new sharpener.  His pressure isn't as good or consistent as the old one. Leave the profile ask the old sharpening guy to do them at 3/4 and go from there.

Interesting things I did not know before I started doing research on skate profiles.

If you have good knee bend you can make anything work...(some pros don't even know what they are skating on).

Just because something feels good to you doesn't mean it is the most efficient profile in term of speed and agility.(Brock University study).

Most efficient dual profile was 9/10 and 9.5/10.5 in study.(only dual looked at. Brock University).

Dual profiles greater than 2 ie 7/10 may cause flat spot in runner,  might be better to keep changes to 2 or less ie 8/10 or 8/10/12/14 etc.(just something being suggested).

There was a 7/13 used in the study. Least efficient
