  1. If you note, my objection was to giving a discount simply so someone could experiment. It had nothing to do with squeezing every last drop of blood and was simply just not giving away a service for free. I fixed issues caused by my partner or the one guy that I didn't train for free a couple times, that's something every shop should do. As for the nickle and diming, shops have to deal with customers that use their shop as a fitting room for online purchases, it's very easy to see how some can develop an adversarial relationship with some people. Consumables may only be $100, but the machines aren't cheap. Nor are the rest of the costs that go into running a shop. That said, I never charged extra for anything other than new skates purchased somewhere else or severely abused slates that took a long time to fix. Like the Amish guy that used a bench grinder to make a point on the bottom of the skate.
  2. Click tracks and pro tools have ruined the recording industry almost as much as autotune, they just did it more subtly.
  3. Why should the shop take a hit on your experimentation? Do you get to use a bunch of different sticks until you find the right curve or flex?
  4. If he has complaints, try the hollow that may help resolve the complaint. There is no "best", other than what makes you feel the most comfortable.
  5. With all the weight I gained and conditioning lost sitting around with a concussion over the winter, I feel like a slug out there. I appreciate the compliment, but I know what I'm capable of doing and not being able to do that is very frustrating to me personally. As for taping, I tried that before the game and it didn't really help. Nor did trying the stiffer RBK skates, in fact, the stiffness caused more pain. I do have some neoprene wraps that I use when I'm home, but they don't fit well in a shoe or skate. In your case, something like a neoprene wrap or bunga pad would probably help if the pain is coming from rubbing on the surface. If it's just pain, then you might want to see a doctor as it really shouldn't be lingering this long. Friendly pick up groups are a great alternative in cases like this. At least you know those guys aren't going to try and kill you to win a t-shirt for being the league champs.
  6. I know the feeling. I sprained my ankle back in the middle of July at a team party and it's still not right. Playing in my playoff games and in Toronto certainly didn't help either.
  7. I don't have a team for the fall. Rink decided that the team that went 18-2-0 didn't have to move to a higher division and I decided that the rink wasn't getting my money.
  8. The problem is that your statement of "girls require time and money" would be properly notated as girls = time + money
  9. I prefer having mine done more frequently, but the edge is no more "fragile" than a ROH sharpening. A bad ding or piss poor sharpening is going to screw up your edges no matter how you sharpen your skates. Try it and decide for yourself, just like anything else opinions will vary from one person to the next and some people will exaggerate the positives and/or negatives.
  10. More personality than a lot of people I know. http://www.modsquadhockey.com/pics/chadd/snow%20003.jpg
  11. I still miss my Australian Shepherd and think of her almost daily despite the fact that it has been more than six years.
  12. I'll replace it and then break out the multi-meter. If I can fix it, it will get used for my home recording setup.
  13. Monitor died tonight, had to dig out an old one out of the closet. Sometimes being a pack rat pays off.
  14. It wasn't pleasant and I didn't each anything for two days, but you do what you have to do.
  15. I had two of mine pulled on my lunch hour, then went back to work.
  16. I forget where I got them, but they were no notes or indications who they were made for.
  17. When I flew to Detroit I took the blades out of my R2XN10s and put the blades in my bag. Then I wrapped the shafts in bubble wrap before I put them in my stick bag. I may be paranoid, but I see how bags get treated every day at work.
  18. Drew, are you sure the whole thing doesn't belong in Venting?
  19. Those are stellar gloves, killed me to sell them.
  20. Nice cab, it would have looked great with my '78 Marshall head. Unfortunately, I sold that a long time ago.
  21. Steve, no matter how clear and concise you make it, there are people that will not be able to understand it.
  22. Make sure people are asking for help before you offer it.
  23. I've been dealing with sprained ankles longer than you've been alive. It used to happen all the time when I played basketball in school.
