  1. I would agree with the comments you made. The gloves I ordered for the forty bucks arrived today, and they seem comfortable but cheaply made. I guess I will give them a shot, as my Eagles have holes in the palm. I don't see these lasting long though. That said, I picked up some socks and jerseys, and they seem great for the little money I spent on them.
  2. That is how they do it as I posted earlier. I paid five bucks to try sticks. None of them were the 87 flex that I wanted to try, they were all 100 flex. I still got a sense of what I liked...I guess. If I could have grabbed an 87 or even 77, I would have done it in a heartbeat, but they only let you shoot what is inside the booth. I bought the 87 flex version never having shot that actual stick, and I got the five bucks back off that. Of course, if I had known there were no 87 flex sticks in any line in the booth, I might have not paid! LOL! I don't know what happens to the tester sticks. I would rather like that the sticks I buy off the rack have not been flexed or shot. I guess it is just me being funny.
  3. At the local box store they have demo sticks that are always 100 flex or more! Never anything the general public would really be able to get a real feel for a stick. However, if I knew that people had possibly used a stick off the rack before I bought it, I would never buy a stick there.
  4. Locally, they charge five bucks for ten minutes and you get that back when you buy a stick. One person at time, no shoes allowed. And this is not even a rapid shot, it is a small boarded in area with net and targets/goalie cut out.
  5. That is interesting. I never really considered that. I will ask him about if he has soreness. The problem with a ten year old is that sometimes they say they are wearing the best skate ever, and they are talking about look or name brand and not performance. I would definitely look into a different route in footbed if these are not the best ones for his arch type. I will say though, that he is skating better than ever. From the outside, the mods seem to have made a difference. Thanks for the insight.
  6. When I brought my son up to Front Row in Thorold (from Buffalo), he was told that he had flat feet. He was fit for Eastons which the fitter said were good for his foot shape and arch. Yellow Suoer Feet in. Then, they proceeded to watch him walk and they removed and adjusted his holders. I could watch even in store as he became much more stable walking up and down the aisles. I believe they adjusted only the right holder (this is eerily similar to what you have described). Anyway, he has had the skates for the last three months, has never skated better, and loves the fit and feel. I believe the gentleman's name as Armando? I highly recommend him and the shop. I was actually going to bring my skates in and see what he thought, but I did not. We are very happy with the skates and fitting. I also appreciated the fact that he fit us in a $199 junior skate and the price or name brand was never an issue the whole time. I just said give him what fits him best, he plays AA, and he gets a lot of ice time. We could have paid a lot more.
  7. Last Friday, took a fall and landed on my ribs. Was sore all weekend and played Monday. Everything was fine, felt great and even scored twice. A little sore still all week, but no major pain or problems. Went out last night to coach our squirt team and after fifteen minutes of barely doing anything, I felt like someone hit me in the ribs with a bat. Tried to play in a league game later on and had to stop after a period, could not bear the pain. I guess I need to shut it down for a while til I heal. Damn! I have been on a tear lately.
  8. Good luck! Believe me, the feeling you have on the big day will top the day you heard the news. It just gets better. Enjoy it.
  9. Which color wheel are you using? I was pretty convinced the normal wheels would not touch them?
  10. Now with the BlackEdge and nitinol blades available, I am wondering if Step Steel is my best choice to replace the regular Step Steel I have in my holders now? (LS2). I sharpen at home with the XO2, but would prefer to have a long lasting edge. If you all were to get new steel, how would you rank the current offerings? For me, being able to sharpen at home would impact my decision, so i guess the Nitinol blades are out. Thanks!
  11. That's is great, keep it up! Good luck, I think you are making a great decision.
  12. Guys, have had my X02 for a long while now, but thinking of upgrading to the new holder. Is it a huge difference in consistency?
  13. Anthony, that is awesome. It is amazing what will power can do. I am about 10 pounds down and about thirty more to go for my own target weight. I am loosely following the no flour, no sugar routine. I still eat pretty well, but eliminating those empty calories is huge. I log my food every day, and it really makes you realize what you're doing to yourself sometimes! Good luck, and keep it up. I feel good about my small success, so you must feel awesome.
  14. True, I agree. I just meant to imply that it gave no relief or satisfaction legally either. And really, how could it? Your post is spot on.
  15. That is a tough event for a lot of people. I wish you luck with having to deal with it, but I think if you focus on the beauty of her life, maybe that will help ease the situation? Stay positive! My grandmother lived to be almost ninety, and then she got in an car accident while driving with my mom and was killed when someone ran a red light and tee-boned them. I nearly lost my mother as well. I was so pissed off for so long, and it ate me up inside thinking that someone screwed up and we all had to pay the price for it. It was a kid who was supposedly hung over and racing to a crappy job that he was late for. He barely got anything more than a slap on the wrist. But now, about eight years later, I have to think that after all the things my grandmother faced in her life (surving stomach cancer and living with a colostomy bag being the biggest one), the irony of how she died makes me smile. She was gone in a instant and probably didn't know what hit her. She was a wonderful character to say the least, and I know she would have wanted me to remember her with a smile. Here's hoping your pain passes. It's a phase, and it will go soon enough. Don't be afraid to get help if you think you need it. I did, and I am glad I did.
  16. That is great news! Best to you both. Hope everything goes well with the procedure.
  17. Early in the game last night, our goalie gets run into, and has his mask knocked off. In the melee, the idiot spits at the offending player who ran him. The goalie gets a 5 and a match penalty for spitting. We have to play the whole game without him, and lose by three goals, 9-6. Furthermore, he is suspended for 30 days for the violation. He got what he deserved, but we sure don't deserve him! We should have won that game. We had nine players total!
  18. When the goalie was out? In our men's league, you cannot take slap shots if one team is without a net minder. Neither team.
  19. Well, my squirt minor team (that I coach) finished first in their division and lost the championship in overtime to the first place team in the larger division. It was a slight disappointment and end to a great year BUT, we held tryouts yesterday and several excellent players from good programs came over and signed on for next year. We are going to have a great start in our tournament bound year. I think our hard work paid off and got noticed.
  20. Squirt minor, 9-10. I mean, come on! And really the pass in question was the most minor little thing. It was no way near being a scoring chance at all. The head coach asked me what had transpired when he heard that I had been upset by something. He said, "What missed pass? Hell, I thought (your kid) was the best kid on the ice for most of the game." I said, "I know I am his dad, but I thought he was good, too." I am with you, Axxion99, but this is a town rink and it would be instant jail! LOL! (I would never hit someone over that, but it would have felt good!)
  21. Well, the kids made it all the way to the championship only to lose 3-2 with 24 seconds left in a 10 minute overtime. Walk in to the locker room late to hear some douche bag telling my son that if he would have passed the puck to his son (he was two feet ahead sometime during the second period at center ice), we would have won. Throughout the game, I kept encouraging his son on the bench who had missed the net 5 or 6 times including a sure one timer for a goal late in the third.
