  1. From the looks of it, it appears that this sharpening is going to result in edges that are completely perpendicular to the ice. I wonder how that will feel and how much an adjustment it will be coming from edges (either traditional sharpening or FBV) that are angled in relation to the ice.
  2. Quick question - What happens when a customer needs a re-bake on the skates? If they bought from you originally do they now get hit for the baking fee? What about if they didn't buy from you but paid a baking fee for the first bake, do they get hit again?
  3. Quick story. A buddy of mine bought some skis from shop A. He brought them to shop B to have the bindings adjusted and the edges done (shop B close to home and trusted we their techs). The owner of shop B wouldn't do it and told him to bring the stuff back to shop A. Neither me or my buddy purchased anything from shop B again. Shop B lost thousands of dollars in business over $50 in tech work. So it's not that I don't understand it, it's I don't think it makes very much business sense. I didn't buy the skates there, so what. I'm in your shop now looking to do business. If you're gonna turn me away or charge me triple, I'll probably never shop there again. So not only did you lose out on the skate purchase, you're gonna lose out on the stick purchase, the glove purchase, monthly sharpens, ect.. ect.. Imagine if auto dealers did this with repairs and service, you'd be looking at a $100 oil change. Hey if you bought the car from them it would have been free. When it comes to baking I understand the charge. It's time consuming and it's part of the fitting process. So the shop should donate services to you, somebody who bought elsewhere due to marginally lower prices already even if they knew any service they got would be crappy, just in the hope that you MIGHT return and spend money at their shop in the future. Which you wouldn't. You demonstrated that when you bought elsewhere for a buck or two less on a thousand dollar piece of equipment. Why in hell would they cater to you? I dont see it as them wanting the shop to cater for them. Its more the fact that the shop owner wouldnt even do the work. It could have been a brand that shop didnt carry and couldnt get, it could be a variety of reasons why he went to another shop to get his product. In the end I cant blame the guy for not going back and spending money at shop B for the simple fact they refused to do the work, even though it seems this guy had no problem paying for it. To me thats the equivalent of me going into my LHS and them refusing to sharpen my skates because I didnt buy them there. I completely disagree with the concept of refusing to do the work, but they are performing a service and should charge an appropriate fee. If the guy had said he would do it, but he was going to have to charge you $50 (or whatever was reasonable for that kind of work) would you still never have shopped there again?
  4. No argument wiht trying to save a buck, but if you save $20 by buying the skates online, you still need to have them baked and sharpened. Most places I know of will charge you at least $45 for a baking and first sharpening, sometimes more, on skates that are bought outside the store, but do that stuff for free for skates bough from them - and imo $45 is a completely reasonable price for those services. So you saved your $20, but after having them baked and sharpened you actually spent $25 more than you would have if you had bought the skates at the store. The point is that you have to take into account those ancillary costs when determining whether or not you actually saved money, which many people do not.
  5. Gagne has always had top end, 40-50 goal talent. However, when Hitchcock was coaching the Flyers he spent quite a bit of time trying to do with Gagne what he did with Modano in Dallas and turn him into a 2-way player who can score. Since Hitchcock was the coach during most of Gagne's truly formative years as a player that is the type of player he has become. I can't speak to this year as I haven't seen the Flyers play, but I've personally always been very high on him, though never really thought of him as a "superstar."
  6. I wanted to see what people's opinion was of window tinting? I have to have it done bc I live in S. Cal now and my interior gets too damn hot, but I need to decide how dark to get and whether to go with ceramic or metallic tint. I'd appreciate any opinions on the subject.
  7. I have a 2004 sedan and it is THE best car I have EVER had. My only advice, in addition to for sure getting into the sedan, is make SURE you get the X model that has all wheel drive. That will give you max versatility for all season. If you eventually acquire the means to have a winter car and a summer car that its not as big of a deal but I would love to have that set-up right now. I bought the car new when I was in Cali, but have since moved to Denver. They didn't have any in Cali, but in CO most of the G's are all wheel. Check out this forum www.g35driver.com There are over 83,000 members there and there is literally nothing that can be found there about the G. Good choice! Thanks for the info - I'm moving to Southern Cal so I don't really need the AWD. If you're looking for another website, try www.myg37.com
  8. Does anyone know of a place in the Los Angeles area that has FBV? I'm moving out there in a couple weeks. Thanks.
  9. Are you serious or being facetious? Don't mean to be argumentative, I just can't tell over the internet. If you are being serious thats fantastic, I wish all shops provided their customers with that kind of attention to detail.
  10. You make a fair point, I'm not in love with the G37 sedan look. So, what I'm thinking now is this - either the G37 coupe or the Cadillac CTS sedan. Thoughts?
  11. So I'm looking at buying a new car, its most likely going to be the Infiniti G37. Obviously the car comes in a coupe and a sedan model and I just can't make up my mind between the two for the life of me. I'm a young, single guy and will be spending the next two years going to business school, so I technically don't "need" the sedan, but at the same time I worry that the coupe may not be big enough. So let's have the opinions from everyone, and I'd really like to hear your reasoning behind the opinions as well. Thanks.
  12. A damn shame. Apparently ESPN Classic is running a tribute of some of his fights tonight, should be a good watch for boxing fans.
  13. While I agree with the theme of your post and the point you're making, NDA's are notoriously hard to enforce. Depending on the nature and extent of the breach of the NDA many companies don't want to spend the time or resources on chasing down violations. That still doesn't give people the right to do whatever they want with confidential information, but it makes it tough on companies to enforce them in certain situations.
  14. "They're the same glove." I called them a couple weeks ago asking the same question and thats the answer I got.
  15. Its tough to explain why its a bush league move, its one of those things that just is. Kinda like ARod screaming "I got it!" at the Toronto third baseman, as he was rounding third, a couple years back, same concept.
  16. I got the chance to try on the One95 glove today and was really impressed. I've always been a looser fit glove person - currently wearing Pro Stock CCM ProTacks - but the fit on this, especially in the back of the hand was great. The only reason I didn't buy them was because of the sizing - the 14" (which is what I normally wear) was actually too small in the hand area, the 15" fit perfectly in the hand and fingers, but I didn't like how big the cuff was on them. Guess for the moment I'll stick with my 4-rolls.
  17. I believe this sentence the key one because given the way that paragraph reads it seems as if it applies to both options A and B. My guess is the patent was applied for long before anything about FBV specifics was said/posted/printed. Even if someone had loose lips, they still had a year after that to apply for the patent. Disclaimer: I'm not a lawyer but have had some significant experience with contract law and understanding the legal importance of how sentences are written.
  18. Just a guess here, but might the reason be that the longer you're on the FBV the more you get used to the effects so you stop "feeling" them? In other words, after a while people just adjust to the new feeling so the effects are still there but not noticeable.
  19. Its a big club you're in there. I've been an M&A banker for the past 4 years and my firm went belly up in October and I'm still looking for a new job. There aren't a lot of openings out there at the moment and probably won't be until people stop being scared and start doing deals again. There are definitely some bargains out there, people are just still scared that we haven't hit bottom yet.
  20. Fair enough, but the FL12 was the last pro-level FL skate correct? I guess the skates I'm looking at are 2 years old. Either way, if anyone has any info on whether or not the new FL coming to market is a significant upgrade over the FL12 I'd appreciate that info. Thanks.
  21. Quick question for those of you that have seen the new skate line. And no, the question is not about the X:60s: How significant are the improvements that were made to the new Flexlites as compared to last years Flexlite 12s? I ask because I have a chance to pick up a pair of Flexlite 12s fairly cheap but if the new ones are significantly improved I would rather just wait. Also, do the Flexlites run the same size in terms of length as the Supreme line? I know several years ago they ran about 1/2 size bigger (similar to One90s) but I don't know if they've been changed to run at the same sizing as the rest of the Bauer line. Thanks.
  22. I'm with you on this, believe me, thats why I attempted to preface it by saying I was in no way condoning the baseball swing, there is no excuse for something like that. Maybe blameless is the wrong word to use, my point was that the original guy shouldn't be in a situation to have his stick clip the other guy in the first place in a drop in situation. Regardless, he definitely didn't deserve a two handed chop to the face, no one does.
  23. I don't want to sound like I'm condoning the second kid's actions in any way because he obviously is so far out of line I can't even begin to understand his thinking, but it doesn't sound like your buddy was completely blameless in the interaction. If this is really just an open session there is no way his stick should be high enough or close enough to anyone's face to clip the guy in the first place, open hockey isn't a place for people to be playing physical, save that for real games. That being said, I'm not implying that your buddy deserved what happened or anything of that nature, the other kid clearly has problems and deserves to be punished to the fullest extent of the law. There is absolutely no room in hockey, at any place or any time, to be taking a two-handed chop at someone.
  24. anyone who knows how to search can just use google and find the negatives of the X60 skates I really don't care when I happen to see the skate and I'm not really interested in looking around for pictures. I was simply questioning the marketing philosophy behind what they are doing. When the skate comes out I'll look at it, until then, I'll wait like most people.
  25. By no means am I saying that Bauer has some type of obligation to release any of its line before it hits stores. My point was if you're releasing the rest of your line you may as well put pictures of the skates out there. Even if the skates are truly revolutionary in terms of performance, is there really all that much competitive information that could be gleaned from a catalog picture and description that it would really be detrimental to them? At the end of the day, its neither here nor there, it just seems overkill to me, but I totally respect their right to do whatever they want.
