Any feedback on how to trim speedplates to size?!
-
so how do you trim speed plates to size?! I have 8.5 skate and 9.5 insoles, they are stiff until baked and it's impossible to fit them into the skates it seems?!
-
so if I bake skates for the 1st time do I bake them with the SpeedPlates inserted inside so that both the skate and the insole get molded @ the same time? or as a video shows I need to bake the insoles separately? which of course would be a pain in the ass since I'd have to wait for the skates to cool down first, and the repeat the process for the insoles?! hopefully not
-
What exactly does "too big too bad" mean? Since they can be trimmed to fit how much can they be trimmed down by? Can they be trimmed down by full size or it'd put the arch support in the wrong place? Ie if I have 8.5 skates can I buy 9.5 speedplates and trim them down to size?

NEW SUPERFEET 'CARBON PRO HOCKEY'
SolarWind replied to SeanCornell91's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
I'd like to know that too - are these new superfeets thermo-formable or not? also I didn't realize speedplates crack? was it just with the first production batch? Bauer often pushes untested products and later on vastly improves on them based on the feedback, so they had over a year to perfect speedplates - have they worked all the kinks out of them? on a side note - I've been on superfeet for over 10 years, then few months ago lost my 2nd pair in a row and send with the regular bauer insoles to my surprise my edges felt Much better as if I was connected to the skate directly so I'm not entirely sold on the yellow superfeers anymore! LOL -
So where and when can I get the titanium blades? Will they be released in Jr sizes? Thanks!
-
So how does RBZ compare to TotalOne in terms of puck feel and shooting?
-
Very interesting - thanks JR I do find it strange though since like you said ice boots used to be converted to hockey all the time (and still are I'd say) - I did that with my 1500C with no adverse effects... so I'm curious now: if APXR is overbuilt as you say they what happens when that boot is convertd to ice? Any potential ill effects or otherwise? Damn I like the look of these skates! :( Also what bugs me re St.Jerome - I understand if for instance they simply don't stock different color heel cups etc. But with skates being made by hand why do they HAVE to paint them in a certain way and can't let's say paint APX as NXG or so something?
-
would it actually last? JR: I didn't realize that there was already a boot that's blacked out & looks totally awesome so wishful thinking on my part :) I'm not surprised since the factory in St.Jerome doesn't seem to have any components that go into the skates made over-seas... curious: why would "roller boots need to be sturdier than ice boots"? I always thought there's more force applied on ice then on the floor (digging into the ice vs pure rubber friction)?
-
Time to bring the old topic back :) The answer is likely going to be no, but I'm curious: is it possible to get the APX in the APXR colours? Of just get the custom APXR for ice if the boot internals are the same (tongue looks different, so as the boot cover above the front tower)? It just looks pretty cool to me: get these with stock black holders and THAT would be a thing of beauty! :)
-
Of course pros can reject or just throw skates away, but is it the case for us mere mortals? ;) when I was going through the process my LHS informed me that all custom orders are final and unless something has gotten horribly wrong (ie wrong size that just doesn't fit) no returns would be accepted? I did end up getting a pair where the sizes were mixed and did get it replaced, but I think the LHS had to eat the defective pair...
-
this got me thinking and I went to look @ the docs and indeed - Pro is marketed for the Lightspeed Pro holder. well - hopefully it's no different then LS2 since that's what I have and the shop suggested that either would work just fine.
-
how did you choose 'speed' over 'pro'? I looked @ both and went with the pro's mainly because of the added height. out of the box the blade looked weird with the huge toe & heel, but since I needed to profile them anyways these will hopefully go away so we'll see...
-
yeah... that's exactly what I did, the molds ended up in the garbage I guess since Bauer managed to completely mess up the skates! from experience I learned that if the shop doesn't know what they're doing then it doesn't matter what effort you put in on your end - things WILL go south :(
-
that's just because Bauer seems to ship you whatever you ask them to, and everybody else just get leftovers ;) kidding aside like with everything else there's got to be some method to this without which results aren't always satisfactory...
-
it might be just me, but from going back & forth between Nike branded One95 & Bauer branded ones it really feels like the stick has changed slightly for instance the blade feels more "lively" on the newer models, while it felt "damp" on the older ones... other then that sticks are identical...
-
yeah - that's precisly what I was thinking a year ago when I decided to go customs, and from my personal experience I got to tell you: there's a serious flaw in this logic! besides the usual 'more is not better, only better is better' here's the rationale: customs process when isn't done right might completely mess things up, and there's no return on customs, plus not to mention - it does take a long time! so if you know exactly what your size is and your feet more or less fit the retails lasts that are available, plus if you aren't in need of any specific custom features such as different liners, different eyelet orientation, different quarter sizes etc unless you're 100% confident in the shop & the person doing the fitting my best advice would be to pick the sizes you feel will work for you, maybe adjust the stiffness & the holder size if needed but don't mess it up any further.
-
wow new to hockey? ;)
-
I didn't even get the correct size on the first try, so it seems that Bauer's custom department is really inconsistent at best :( re the liner - I didn't find any differences between the retail & the gripliner (like I posted before I had the exact same swap done on me) - both feel very similar & dry just as fast I hope you didn't order reinforced eyelets though since Bauer seems to do a hack job on these sticking a rough piece of plastic right underneath the liner. On my pair it only took 2.5 months for it to poke a hole through. Crap! BTW just with the people I play 2 besides me had to go through the warranty process on T1s for different reasons, so the quality has really LOTS to be desired. In my opinion definitely a step back from One95 - these were tanks! :(
-
So is it safe to assume that the 2011 Catalogue is due later this year (should be a couple of weeks away), and it'll feature the new TotalOne protective line that will come out as usual in April 2011? Or will One95 line continue through another year?
-
unfortunately... I was quite upset that LE wasn't an option (tried to put black heel on the T1), but was told that St. Jerome simply doesn't have the parts that are only available for the Chinese run models...
-
I voiced my opinion before, but seem to be in the minority: from my personal experience the sizing between One95 & T1s isn't the same - T1s fit wider & longer, and require I'd say on average going down a .5 size from One95. it was confirmed though that the internals are different & the padding + liner seems to be thinner so it shouldn't be unexpected (but unfortunate though) that the sizing is different. BTW I still don't understand what 'vamping' means :( Anyone care to explain plz?!
-
wow - what an awesome deal! I've been searching high & low for P92 77 flex One95 but they're very hard to find at any price, left alone a steal you got - good for you!

ability for FBV to hold edge has been discussed & opinions varied initially many said that FBV doesn't hold edge as long as conventional ROH, and I remember when I just started using it early 2009 I was thinking the same. But after an adjustment period somehow this thought has gone away? Blackstone was eluding to the fact that a arch-shaped surface or ROH edges distributes the force evenly unlike the triangular shape of FBV "fangs" - again not sure if this has something to do with it... all in all I did have a few cases when freshly shapened FBV lost an edge after just ONE game, and I didn't have any crashes in a game & took my usual good care of skates (I have walking skate guards that I immediately put on when off the ice) so quality of the person doing the work makes HUGE difference. on a side note I gave 5/8 a try again on one of my sets of steel & can now say with certainly that 100/50 has more bite, and more glide. After over a year on FBV it took .5hr to adjust to 5/8 to really start feeling the edges again, but still the grip wasn't as foolproof as with 100/50. Coming from FBV stopping on ROH is MUCH easier though All in all I didn't like the change at all - granted, I've been on 100/50 for well over a year, so maybe it'll be ok with time, but so far FBV was far more enjoyable - I said this before but I wish it was more readily available, and was more cost effective :(
-
somehow I alway thought that 5/8 is 100/50 - not 90/75? at least this is what the transition was for me... also I was thinking, and I don't really understand this picture: conceptually it might have something to do with the angle of the edges, but still how can 100/50 have more bite if it's so shallow when comparing with 90/75 that is much deeper, also 90/75 seems to have sharper angles too?!
