8090

Recommended Posts

i was about to buy the new tack 892's but when iwas trying them on for the last time the manager at the store saw that my foot seemd to actually be pushing the skate out. i knew my feet where really wide but thought ccms would work out. So the guy had me try on the 8090's which where awesome. The only thing is ive heard the 8090;s are super stiff and are a little out of my price range. so they said theyd get the 5090's in for me. does anyone know if the 5090;s would hold up or would be still to stiff for me. Im 180lb. 17 years old, 5'8" and gonna be playing about 4-5 times a week. Or are there any other skates with a deep boot?

i don't know about the 5090's, but if you do happen upon some extra cash or anything like that, imo, if 8090's fit, they are as good as you're going to get. i'm 15, 5'6, 165 and i played about 5-6 times per week during the season, and my 8090's have broken down very little support wise (they have gotten softer, but almost the same support as new) and the liner is really awesome, so they really are worth the money.

the 8090's are high cut, especially compared to the mission s series, and the forward flex isn't as significant as other skates, so it's a bit of a traditional style skate. i don't know if this suites your playing style

I skated in them about 8 times and it wasn't gettin' any better. I liked the skates but it was too painful and gel pads didn't even help. The tongue on them is like paper thin. So I went and got 8Ks - fit like a glove.

I have zero problem with lace bite on my 8090's.

never had a problem with lace bite in my skates and have had them for almost a year. I skate 6-7 times a week and sometimes twice a day. they have held up, but it took a little to berak down the boot so they were not as stiff. Other than that i have really liked the skates

i had a problem with lacebite for about 2 skates in my second month skating in them, but i don't think it was the tongue's problem, i think it was more that i was tieing them really tight up top to experiment

If you like the fit of the 8090 but dont want to spend the money find a nice pair of bauer calssic GOLD. absolutly fantastik skate, same exact fit as the 8090, and a ot cheaper due to not being made any more.

I heard on epinions.com that if you generally aren't over 180lbs you wont get much out of the 8090's and that the sizes are very different than other bauer skates so you'll probobly get the wrong size (over the internet).

Is this true because i wanted to order some of these and now i'm not so sure as i live in england i can't be botherd to send them back to us/ca.

Oh yeh, can someone tell me what lace bite is?

I tried them on yesterday in a 9.0D--I have always worn a 9.0D in Bauers (XX's right now) and they fit fine. But everyone's foot is different so you are taking a chance but you could always return them unused.

As far as not getting use out of them if you are under 180lbs can't be true---Bauer doesn't make skates for weight ranges and wouldn't limit their revenue for that reason. Supremes are designed for more straight-up skating style and Vapors lean forward more. I'm actually getting the 8090s in the next few weeks--I like the traditional style boot.

The one guy (puckmugger?) on epinions is a raving lunatic. Most of his reviews are based on what people tell him or borrowing a stick for a shift or two.

One of my friends has a son who loves his 8090s and he's 125lbs at most.

Lacebite is tendon discomfort that may result from calcium deposits or friction brought upon by frequent tightening of the laces

I've had the 8090s since last September and lace bite has never been a problem. Durable and very comfortable.

I had a pair of CCM Pro Tacks in a size 7.5 but they just had no arch support at all and it was painful to skate in them, so I bought Bauer 8090's in a size 7.5 and they were the exact same size as CCM 7.5's.

So if you fit into a certain size in CCM, from my experience you'll also be able to fit into the exact same size in Bauer skates.

are the rbk skates a deep fit? if so how stiff are they?

Yes, I understand the RBK skates are deeper than Tacks. Too bad the only ones available right now are the $700 ones!

What Accord says about the Bauer 8090 is interesting. I'm currently a Tacks guy (due to width) but I also know my foot is a bit deeper and my arch a bit higher than a true Tacks fit.

Don't get me wrong, what I have isn't bad, but not perfect. Then again, when it comes to skates off the shelf is there ever a perfect fit?

JJ

Hey i was reading puckmuggers article on the 8090's and he stated "Despite the 3 millimeter lifts, the Lightspeed is still woefully heel pitched. Bauer puts the skater in a poor position for skating" Is it true that bauer skates are heel pitched, i always thought that bauers were neutral.

That guy is a huge, huge tool. I find that they are neutrally pitched.

Actually I agree with him on that aspect. I had to put lifts AND a fwd pitch to make it feel right. I had to do the same thing to a few skaters just to make them feel neutral.
