If you had 10k to spend on a car....

Recommended Posts

What would you get? I like sports cars ... 300zx, rx7, 3000gt, old Mr2....but it would have to be something more reliable....I was thinking cadillac deville, sts or maybe a used beamer or benz....anyone have any suggestions...

'86 Porsche 928 S4

If we're talking about reliability and practicality, then probably a '00-'01 Nissan Maxima or maybe Honda Accord.

affording the car on 10k isn't the problem is the repairs that will get you. The sportier it is the more highly strung it is which means parts are going to fail and need replaced. An older prelude or maybe a celica would probably be your best bets. Maybe a VW if you're handy and can do the repairs yourself, same with a bimmer, older 3-series are pretty easy to do routine maintainence on, but stay away from M3's unless you have some deeper pockets. I'd stay away from turbo's unless you know the guy who owned it before you or you plan on replacing the turbo anyway.

Well, If I had 10k to spend on a car, I wouldn't purchase a older euro car because of reliability issues. I would be more in the market for a japanese car. I've owned both japanese and euro cars, more specifically rx7's, hondas, acuras, newer Audi's. You can get yourself a nice Acura integra GS for well under 10k. And have the extra cash for savings, or fixing the car up. The reason I say GS, and not GS-R is insurance rates. GS-R's have higher rates because of theft, and racers. I'm also recommending acura because of reliability, and parts are relatively inexpensive if something should go wrong. You really have to look at your needs, and what you want to use the car for. Your best bet is to goto www.autotrader.com and take a look at all the cars out there. Plus, you'll get an idea on how much a specific car is going to run you.

Hope that helps.

I would probably pick up an rx7, just make sure you're dead on with your maintenance.

For a basket case charger w/original engine expect to pay $20,000-$25,000. Double that if it's a Hemi. If it's a Hemi convertible, multiply that by 20. Sorry for the buzzkill. You could get a fixer-up '68 Coronet RT. That car is bitchin'! You wanted a Mopar about five years to late. Sorry.

I'd buy a bus pass and invest the rest.

But if somebody put a gun to my head and said buy a car, it'd probably be this

To spare the details it's a built 96 Integra GSR that made ~375 WHP on pump gas, 593 on modest boost and race gas, with the potential for a lot more. I was actually going to buy the car, I had my Dad ready to cosign on a loan and transportation and everything, but it was going to cost me a lot of money to bring an American imported car that's not even 10 years old across the border, so I had to abandon that idea :( Woulda been fun.

Kristin told me she'd leave me if I bought a CRX.

I love those things...

Going to miss her?

Back on topic:

Isuzu Amigo with a V6. Around here I would need the 4WD version, not sure about you. Bigger than a Jeep so you can actually take passengers or carry a few hockey bags.

Mid 90's Integra would be prime. How about an oldschool Acura Legend or 98 or so Honda Accord coupe? You can't go wrong with imports.
