Holik to the Thrashers. $4.25 for the first year. It's a 3 year deal.

http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/article.jsp...802_122646_4724

Oh why??? Did the Thrashers suddenly get stupid? Can you say over paid underachiever?

Holik is awesome if you use him correctly, ie as a nasty 2nd line center who can shut down somebody like Sundin during the playoffs. The Rangers were dumb to offer him 45 million (luckily the Devils dodged a bullet, because they offered Holik 41).

Holik wasn't an underachiever for the Rangers, his last year he had 25 goals and 56 points while being a +4 on a non-playoff team. If you look at his previous stats, that's pretty much on par for what Holik will put up offensively his entire career.

Obviously, when you're paying a guy 9 million, you expect a little more, but that's the Rangers' fault.

You can't look at a boxscore and truly appreciate a guy like Holik.

A team like Atlanta could use some definite size down the middle, especially when their current centers are a 5'9 Marc Savard and a soft guy like Patrik Stefan.

If Atlanta frontloaded the deal (apparenly 4.25 mil the first year), I don't see anything wrong with this signing. Hell, I wanted Holik back on the Devils.

You make some good points about paying him too much and the Rangers not using him correctly. But at that token he came to camp 15 pounds out of shape and also has mocked the team after he has had a -4 game, which I do not appreciate.

As for Allison, I think he could be top 4 in the game if no concussions...It is really risky for a team like TO to sign him

I think, I personally would rather take a risk on Allison at 2 mil than Holik at 4.5. There are a lot of guys that score 25 goals a season and do not get 4.5 mil and I fail to see why Holik is worth it. I would probably take a chance on Holik, 2 mil.

Bruins sign shawn mceachern, and glenn murray.

Now the question everyone is wondering, who's gonna get to wear 14 if samsonov comes back?

McEachern's worn #15/19. Murray's been #27. Not sure what you mean by #14.....

Yikes, I thought Atlanta frontloaded the deal. 4.25 is a bit much for Bobby, I was hoping NJ would get him for about 2 mil.

As for Holik, he's more valuable than his offensive numbers. He's one of the few centers than can physically handle people like Joe Thornton, Mats Sundin, etc over a 7 game series. While there are a lot of guys who can score 25 goals, 90% of those guys won't make life hell for the opposition's #1 center during the playoffs.

Holik and Anson Carter might put up the same stats, but I am certain I'd rather have Holik during the playoffs. That's why he'll get more money than other 25 goal scorers. But 4.25 mil is a bit much IMO.

I'm a big Allison fan (Kings are my #2 team), but unfortunately I traded a lot to get Allison and Deadmarsh in a keeper league a few years ago..........

On my "I have too much time on my hands" free agent want list, I had Allison as the 6th best center available, and Holik as the 7th. For the curious I have: Forsberg, Modano, Demitra, Lindros, Zhamnov, Allison, Holik, Scatchard, Gratton, Stumpel, Damphousse as the top 10 centers available. Although I admit I'm probably overrating Lindros based off of fuzzy memories of when he was so dominant.

man this is a ;lsad year to be a leaf fan...

good year to be a panther fan. they're gonna be leaps and bounds in improvement in the standings, with a solid crop of youth and speed, and veterans and leadership. top it off with luongo in net, and they have the potential to be a contender.

must say i'm pretty fond of mccarty going to calgary too. i hate to see him leave the wings, but i'm glad he went to a humble team where he can make a good impact.

hmm, didn't see it posted yet, but the Rangers signed Martin Straka.

Accident waiting to happen

rangers signed somebody i still figured they were in shock that they couldn't spend ridiculous amounts of money on players that weren't worth it.

All I know about Straka is that he sounds JUST LIKE "Latka" (sp?) from the old TV series Taxi. "Tank you berry much!"

Oh yea looks like Ottawa signs Lapointe. WAY TO GO OCONNELL and COMPANY!

Losers!
