Team Canda New Look Uniforms

Recommended Posts

FYI:

In today's (Monday) Vancouver Sun it mentioned that this week Nike will be unveiling the new jerseys and socks for Team Canada.

The socks and jerseys will be very form-fitting and at first it may require assistance in putting the jersey on. I can't remember what the rest of the article said but it should be displayed for the media this week.

sounds like a winner to me. I can't wait to see Brett Hull in a skin tight Team USA jersey. In related news, pants will be replaced by padded speedos.

Text of article: for those interested.

TIGHT WHITES- Players skated out for Sunday's practice wearing new snug fit Team Canada sweaters and socks. The home team whites and two-toned away uniforms are the result of two years research and development by Nike.

"We're just going through final testing and sizing the junior guys," said Steve Jones, communications manager for Bauer Nike Hockey. "They use a lot of Nike technology that you've seen in cycling, speed skating and swimming - with the goal of increasing the performance of the athelete.

With the official release on the new jerseys expected later this week, Jones perferred not to divulge too much information. He did hint research has shown the new models promote better air circulation.

"When you first put it on they're so tight, you've got to get help from a buddy like back in peewee just to get them over your shoulder pads," said Kelowna Rockets' Blake Comeau, following practice.

"But once you get out on the ice you hardly notice them at all - they're not the least bit constricting. And they breathe really well.

Blake Comeau was also quoted in the Vancouver Sun saying they were incredibly difficult to put on but where not noticable on the ice. The black jersey are two-tone and take a while to get use too.

In the NFL the jerseys are also form fitting and super tight. This is done particularly for the offensive linemen so the linebackers and front defensive line cannot grab the jerseys to "throw the player." I know the equipment manager of the New York Giants. He has told me that for Sunday game day, the equipment guys will start on Thursday to put the jerseys over the shoulder pads. The jerseys and the shoulder pads have velcro to keep the jersey that tight to a player's body. The shoulder pads are also custom form fitted to the player. The shoulder pads are worthless to any other player as they will fit only the player they were built for.

In the arena of professional sports, any and all advantages are sought. The vendor who is first to produce products that give even the slightest advantage to the professional will be sought after. It is hard to imagine a snug tight fitting hockey jersey but I will definitely believe it when I see it.

The fact that the jerseys and socks were "wind tunnel tested" does not inspire confidence in me with regards to how the uniform will look.

What material are they made out of? The same jersey material as always or like the Nike Dri Fit material. Spandex?

They were unveiled today. The white ones have red stripes down the sleeve and sides of the jersey and the socks have red stripes down the center. They aren't as fitted as I thought and they aren't the best looking either.

I don't mind the socks...look kinda cool. But the jerseys are fugly.

To answer the RBK jersey question. I heard the goalies would get tighter fitting jerseys first, and regular players would come eventually.

Ewww...I think Gretz and the other guy (don't know who) are just laughing at how stupid Gagne(?) looks

The "other guy" is Bob Nicholson. One of the other directors of hockey Canada (can't remember his actual title).

at first, i thought it was really ugly, but i think it makes players look more old school. the fit looks really similar to the jerseys from the 60's and 70's, as far as i can tell from pictures. it'll take a video of watching the players actually in a game to get me to decide though. the socks on the other hand look pretty cool, but how will they hold up

The jersey alone was reduced by nearly 500 grams, saving more than 150 kilograms in lifted weight per game for the typical forward.

oh no, not this with jerseys :o

soon, junior will be asking santa for easton's 1 piece carbon mesh jersey, with special "coil" joints in the shoulders and torso for a faster releace and seamless energy transfer for faster and more accurate slapshots. who will save us

How can that not feel restrictive. And it looks terrible.

I could get used to the socks, but the thought of a tight jersey makes me feel claustrophobic.

I think for the intersquad games they are just wearing plain red/white practice jerseys.

At least he footage from last game they were.

And yeah, I thought that too about the old school look....still don't' like them though.
