The Canadiens apparently paid in the 6-figures to buy Youppi :o

I remember the article on ESPN back when it was announced. It's nice that they can carry over a local icon but there's just something wrong with a mascot wearing an orginal 6 jersey.

I just read the article on espn.com and I think the Canadiens should worry about winning some more Stanley Cups rather than keeping a memory from the Expos. Baseball's a joke, not a sport. I think it's a travesty that the Yankees now have the most championships than any other sports team. I guess if you got a lot of money you can afford a couple. I just felt the need to get that off my chest.

I heard that Howler got retired because he had an "altercation" with a fan in the parking lot. Not sure on that one though.

wow, that's amazing.

We see our mascot all the time during intermission and play stopages. He always trys to cheer up/excite the Leaf fans. Whenever, a visiting team comes in they usually show a funny video of our mascot beating up/ ribbing their players/team mascot (ie. our polar bear mascot beating up the Senator's Lion mascot in a wrestling ring).

Other times, he goes around the arena shooting free t-shirts at fans.

Hitting a baseball at the major league level is considered one of the most difficult things to do in athletics, so I wouldn't classify baseball as a joke.

You're right about the Yankees buying championships and, admittedly, the Red Sox coming in second. Baseball needs a salary cap for competitive reasons, but their Players Association is too darn strong. (Or, perhaps, the small market teams are making money, even though they aren't winning, so they don't care.)
