If it was a foot away dont you htink they would have called it boarding?  From the point where he hit kariya was good 5 feet from the boards. Kariya didnt go into the boards head first he went in sideways shoulder and side making contact.

Kariya's an extremely strong skater and thats why he was able to avoid it. No, I don't think every infraction is always called, and this was obviously missed. He was lucky. If I swing my stick at someone head behind the play, miss the player, ref doesn't see it, it's still a cheap shot. The same logic applies here. Avery went after Kariya when he was in a vulnerable position. Kariya was able to handle a dirty hit very well, and got out of it unharmed.

Everyone here on the board calling Avery "no talent" and "useless" or whatever obviously don't watch too many Kings games. If you actually watched, instead of commenting on things you've only heard, you'd see that Sean is one of the hardest working guys on the Kings. He gives 100% everytime he's on the ice, and he also happens to be one of our best skaters. I completely understand being upset about what he says, as a Kings fan I wish he'd shut the hell up sometimes. But take it from someone who watches all the games, there's not too many guys on the Kings who work harder.

Also, he's an agitator, not a goon. His job is to get his opponents off their game, not to beat the crap out of them, so everyone saying "He's a puss" is missing the point.

As for his "turtleing like a puss", it's kind of hard to defend yourself when the other guy gives you no chance to get ready and basically jumps you like a thug. Say what you want about that Horidchuk fight, Avery covered up, let him swing, and drew a 5 minute major penalty for his team! One man's turtleing is another man's "take one for the team" selflessness.

In the Ottawa game, Avery just got jumped much in the same style. No warning, just a guy whaling on him. To his credit, Avery didn't "turtle" but instead got back on his skates and took the player's skates out from underneath him.

Say what you want about his mouth, or about his dives, but if you say he doesn't have the talent to play in the NHL, you really don't know what you're talking about.

I admit, he's one of those players that if he wasn't on the Kings, I'd probably hate him. But that street goes both ways, if he was on your favorite team, you might actually see all the work he does.

And I like to think Avery's refusal to fight Lappy as "too much respect". C'mon, they're both the same size, if anything Avery is quicker. I think Avery has too much respect for Lappy to fight him.

Lappy is far from having respect for Avery, he clearly said on the French radio that he hate him so hard as did Robitaille and Belanger. Man, I don't have respect for those who hate me, why would he? I just don't understand. I think he's afraid of Lappy.

I don't buy it. Sure, I suppose Lappy was upset at Sean's comments (as most people were), but as far as hating him? I find that hard to believe. They played on the same line for a couple years, never once did I hear about any bad blood. I won't lie, Sean does take some cheapshots. Why have I never seen Sean take a run at Lappy? Doesn't add up.

And why would he be afriad of LappY!?! Look, I love Lappy, when I see him in an Av's jersey I want to puke, but it's not like Lappy is some tough guy. If anything, they both serve the same roles on their respective teams. Admittedly Sean is much more prone to running his mouth and taking dumb penalties.

I watched the game (and saw the fight) and I think it honestly took a lot of guts for Avery to fight Eddy Jo. Avery stepped up for Eric Belanger who he felt was roughed up by Jovanovski. This is the Avery that I like. I have had no complaints with his game/attitude the last couple of weeks, he plays hard/clean and keeps his mouth shut.
