Hot off the wires:

Going forward in 2006, the company formerly known as BauerNikeHockey will be known as NikeBauerHockey. NBH will now crossbrand new products with both brand names. The new One90 skate will feature a Nike and Bauer id on the product. The new "Nike" glove for 2006 will also feature the Bauer logo. NBH is making a new commitment to crossover branding with the two company names. This will enable NBH to put deeper Nike dollars into marketing product and seeing results clearly with featured players. All previous product from 2005 will remain with its branded name. Therefore, Vapor series skates will continue to carry just a Bauer logo. Although there are previous examples of Nike Air on Bauer pants(6000, 8000) and Bauer gloves(Vapor XV, XX, XXX), this new crossover branding will signal a new turn for NikeBauerHockey. The Bauer name will not be put to bed as it continues to carry extremely strong brand recognition within the marketplace.

I agree...if it was the Nike Vapor XXX skate and every player wore it and they could have success with Nike gloves, pants, and gear as they do Bauer....there would be no reason to keep Bauer around. Tear.

Bauer brand will not be put to bed, otherwise, that move would be made in 2006. The Bauer brand name is too strong with too much brand recognition. Please don't say that's what they said about Cooper, different players, different circumstances in '96. The industry was a lot different just ten years ago.

Yes, I heard it was CCM. Remember, this is only rumor but this would be another sad day in hockey history if CCM brand name goes down. hard to imagine but I haven't seen any new Cooper gloves in 10 years or Daoust skates, so its possible.

Considering the reception the new names get, regardless of quality, it makes a lot of sense. That's exactly why I think Bauer will eventually go away and the new name is just the first step.

but their is one problem with this..if bauer(slim fitted skate) goes down and nike stay ...what will every player that skate in vapor will do??

As a side note to this "cooper" has been reserected, low end shoulder pads for example at Canadian Tire. They actually are cool old school look and have a bauer tag on them.

for some reason it just doesnt seem right for nike to be a huge name in hockey. i mean they make cloths shoes and other stuff. bauer was the only company that made only hockey stuff. (i think, please correct me if im wrong) i dont want to see ccm go down even tho i have never bought anything from them.

Now, even if they were to kill Bauer, Nike would still use the boot lasts to make Bauer or Nike skates. The boot lasts will not be discarded just because of a name change. No need to worry about that.

They have considered it from a marketing perspective. Their research tells them to keep the Bauer name alive. Nike is still a North American based company. They understand the North American marketplace. Now that RBK is owned by Adidas, follow the map: Adidas is a European based company. Adidas doesn't give a hoot about CCM tradition should they decide to kill CCM brand. Their will be CCM branded product in 2006. My CCM rep has told me this. Long term, down the road maybe CCM will still be there. It does seem foolish to re-tool a brand line for 2006 and then kill it by 2007. If CCM brand is being put to rest, again, I would think it would be 2006. This whole CCM idea is based on RUMOR and SPECULATION. Those are two things everyone here is very good at: RUMOR and SPECULATION. And I'm the one who passed along the CCM RUMOR(from a little birdie) so I don't have any more concrete info to base this on. We are just guessing, myself included. The NBH story, however, is FACT. A little birdie told me so.
