QandA

Brett Hull Retires

Recommended Posts

He still stays on the cap as well doesn't he?

I don't think so, since they won't be paying him.

I remember the Raptors were paying Hakim after he retired. He just came off the books this year. Figured it would be the same.

I still say he's classless for taking off at this point in the season. He just put a kid in the AHL through hell and back, made life a hell of alot more difficult for Gretz and hurt the team. He didn't realize he couldn't play anymore in the offseason? Anyone else hear its because of "ice-time and production"? That's the latest rumour I heard.

Actually there have been some rumors that they were going to have to either trade or waive a guy because someone is coming off the IR soon. This will give them a chance to keep Taffe and Kolanos if they want.

I didn't think him and gretz would click and be on the same page most of the time to begin with, mainly because of brett's lack of passion for hockey. This just is bad for the game... I think it's too bad.

if only he had read MSH, we knew!! :D

actually the sad thing is you could almost say he wasted part of his talent, and he's #3 on the all time list...amazing

met him earlier in the year..nice guy...but I think I'll always be a bit pissed when thinking back to his WCoH comments and his lack of prep for the event while representing the US, the only country that wanted him as a young player

at least he did it now early into the season and not in feb or march.

he will not count against the cap because contracts are not garunteed like in the nba (as far as i know)

i will miss his quotes and one liners, he did like to stir the pot.

could he doing this so he could become the assistant to ted saksins?

It just seems weird to do this like a week after they unretire his father's number 9 for him to wear. Almost unprofessional, like to play 5 games and say you can't compete anymore. Why wait 5 games into the season. He shoulda done it after preseason.

John Davidson said that hull's skill just wasnt there that he was in really good shape but he just dident have it so he wanted to hang 'em up

I think Jason Chimera is the guy coming off IR.

As a Blues fan in St. Louis, where Brett did most of his scoring, it is kind of a sad day. You always had to take what he said with a grain of salt, but he sure put up some great numbers and made things exciting.

Also what was said about him and Gretzky not getting along, I don't believe that. It's been said that the main reason Gretzky played in St. Louis at all was because he and Hull were pals. But I figure they respect each other at least enough to get along.

Just my two cents.

"The Coyotes will likely get some salary cap relief with his retirement. If Hull signs a Voluntarily Retired List league form - which means he can't return to the NHL for a year - then his salary, minus his the first paycheque which arrived Friday, is wiped off the books for Phoenix. A source indicated he would sign the form."

Jason Chimera is not on the Coyotes. He is in Columbus.

Oh...when did that happen...he was signed as a FA in Phoenix last I heard....?

I guess I'm a little more dissapointed then some of you. He's my favorite player of all time and I got Center Ice this year just so I could watch all of his games in what I thought would be his final, full season. Now the recent trade that was made to get Sanderson makes a little more sense. I'm guessing this wasn't as sudden as it seemed and I'll bet that he and Gretzky probably have talked about this since the lockout ended or even prior.
