I'm not an SUV guy. But from what I know and hear from others is that there isn't that much difference between any of the ones you're looking at. You could add the highlander in there too if you were looking newer, I think its in the same class as the other three. A guy at work has one, his wife drives it so I don't know if they have had any problems with it or not. If you're looking at newer (<3 years old) I would do some research and see if Honda is having transmission problems in their pilots because I know two people who had to take their Oddessy(sp?) back in for a new one after 35k mi.

I have a 2001 4 Runner and the next SUV I will buy is the 4Runner as well. I have 70K on it right now and all i have done is bring it into the shop for a 50K check - up. Plus as far as hockey goes..... the back window going down is a very big plus for riding in the car with hockey equipment :D

The toyota version of the 470 is the Sequoia I believe. My dad has a Honda pilot and thats what I mostly drove until I got my car. The pilot is pretty good and a very well built vehicle. It has decent power and provides a good ride. It is better on gas than my dads old pathfinder. The third row seat is pretty useless unless you have little kids or very short rides for adults because of the lack of leg room. But other than that it is a very solid vehicle. It is very similar to the Acura MDX. If I were to buy a the pilot I would spend the extra $4-5 k and get a Acura because of the name and resale value.

I miss the old school Land Cruisers, but if you get a Land Rover go with a Defender. May as well have something manly.

all-star, I had the same 3 SUV's in mind when I was looking for a new SUV.

I liked both the Pilot and the 4Runner, but the Pathfinder was just head and shoulders above the other two, IMO.

And yes, I did test drive the other two, but I still found the Pathfinder much better.

Here's a piece of advice. Tell your parents to put 30 or 35 grand of that 50 grand away in good savings funds, and "only" buy you something worth 15-20 grand. It'll be a lot sweeter to keep adding that money and put a fattie down payment on a house rather than have some big SUV that is going to do absolutely nothing but be worth less money in the future.

IF you could afford it, THe lexus SUV 470 model has about 18-20 miles to the gallon. I have it......

somehow, i doubt a lexus 470 can get 18-20 miles per gallon... i've seen them on the street and they're pretty massive trucks.

do you actually plan on going off-road with your SUV allstar? if not, you'd do just as well getting a dodge magnum RT. it gets decent mileage, since it's hemi can shut off 2 cylinders when they're not used, and it's got a huge space.

i already have a savings account for a down payment on a house. but i wont be moving out for a long time. haha

im going to do some off roading in it. not much, i go camping like 5 times a year, so i'll take it out then.

im really leaning towards the pathfinder too. its so nice! going to test drive a few tomorrow.

MDX won't carry the resale value of the Pilot. The MDX was built on the CRV platform, not the Pilot platform.

I guess whatever you buy, my suggestion is that you buy used. I am sure it does not need to be said that a vehicle is probably the single worst investment you will ever make. I say find a vehicle with 10-15,000 miles (or km) that is in mint condition. You loose at least 20% the second you drive off the lot with a new vehicle. Let someone else take that initial hit. I have had several new vehicles and I may NEVER buy another one again.

Some people don't view cars as an investment.

Some people don't view cars as an investment.

And they certainly aren't when 99% of them depreciate in value. It takes a very special car for the marketplace to view it as an investment.

Houses on the other hand... ;)
