ICM holder?

Recommended Posts

what are they? someone mentioned it in the "razorbladz vs tuuks" thread and there was a picture. Are ICM's the ones they have on the old bauer chargers?

ICMs don't have stainless steel blades, they're carbon-steel, a bit softer so they go dull quicker but they're easier to sharpen. The steel is molded into the plastic, so the steel and holders are not interchangeable. They are quite durable though, and were quite popular into the mid- to late-90s with pro guys.

You see a couple of guys using them in the NHL. The only problem for most people is that if they intend to keep the skate for very long, you have to replace the entire thing and both of them unless you want two uneven height blades. If one holder goes and you've used almost half of the blade, then you gotta get two holders and you also don't have the convenience of removing the blades and replacing them like the prolite3/tuuk/tblade/other holders.

They were popular because the earlier Tuuks were notorious for having the holders break. Josh, are you sure about the carbon steel? I used them a long time ago and thought mine said stainless steel on the blades.

Sorry to bring up yet another old thread but I was wondering.........

Would the holders on these skates be similar to ICM's? I had a pair of these when I was very very young, but I forgot what they felt like. I think the holders on these are called ICM Comps or something like that.

I was thinking of harvesting them for my 703's.

Yeah, those are the ICM Comps. I'm thinking about doing the same thing when my blades run low, just rummage through some PIAS or Ebay for cheap skates with the same blades, remove them and toss the boots.

As mentioned before they're supposed to be very stiff/stable.

However, I am not sure if the model I posted is as stiff as ICM holder's used by most pro's.

Though I have Cobra's, I'd like to try them out just to see if I like them.
