The "great looking traditional" skates are few and far between from all the skate vendors. If the product performs, it really does not matter what it looks like. Too bad there was no MSH when Vapor 8 Pro models were introduced in 1998. Even if guys trashed that radical design, it wouldn't matter. The skate spawned a generation of new designs that have benefitted everyone in the game: players, vendors, and dealers. Here's to moving forward, not being stuck in the past.

Oh, looks do matter. I can't tell you how many folks do not like the "flashy" skates. They end up NOT buying anything because they don't like anything. Instead, they keep their old 15 yo skates. Now, that's not good for business. Also, what makes a skate appeal is a regional thing as well. What may appeal to someone in San Fransisco or Orlando, wouldn't be seen on the feet of someone in an original six town.

In my area those Bauers and the new Vectors will be rejcted by many. of course, some will buy them, but why alienate a whole segment of your customer base with outlandish looking skates that do NOTHING for performance.

JR,

No offense but I sincerely doubt NBH will be selling those skates in a case like that. I work in the manufacturing field service industry and periodically purchase such cases for tooling and special measuring instruments. That particular case ranges anywhere in price from around $75.00 to $120.00. They would have to bump the price up much higher than $550 with that kind of packaging. I would suspect that you will see either cardboard or plastic. That is a reps case.

I'm not going to discuss PERFORMANCE with you. We've been down that road before. I am 15 minutes from Madison Square Garden, home of the New York Rangers, Original Six since 1926. Please visit this area to see how many Vapor skates are worn in this area. The Vapor line outsells RBK/CCM, Easton, and Graf by over 4-1. In this area, looks do not matter. If the skate fits, wear it. As for your guys in 15 year old skates who can't get past the new look of skates, I guess that is a vanity issue for them. Its too bad a player would not try current technology only because he doesn't like the look. In the end, that is his loss. Players with current skates will ultimately skate by him because 15 year old skates are simply broken down and cannot perform the way they did 15 years ago.

Nike used to make a pair of shoes that were really popular in the NBA like two years ago. The heel and midfoot of the shoe was plastic and they were really comfy... im guessing the plastic on the one90 was influenced by nike.

Nike Foamposite...that was my first guess what the ONE90 was going to be like.

Jrgretzky - that's what I hear...wouldn't be the first time Nike has done this - they did it for one of the Air Jordans.

I was just wondering, is their going to be a new vapor model to replace the 30? I have'nt read or seen anything. but I talked to bauer customer service about returning my new 8090's and he mentioned that the skate was being revised.

I imagine the Vapor line will be shown some love in 2007.

The vapor 30 is a great product, performance speaking but I am worried about how long the skate is going to last. I have heard alot of rumors about how long this skate will last and it seems 50/50.Bauer customer service told me today that the durability was being looked at. and if they could extend the life of this boot they would be golden, because acording to bauer it is already the #1 selling skate.

There is no way the V30 is the #1 selling retail skate. Maybe if they count the number of pro skates and returns it's in the ballpark.

I don't know, after seeing the slovakia world junior team and going to a couple of the games, Vapor XXX's are clearly the preffered skates. Every game i watch it seems like at least 3-4/5 players are wearing vapor xxx's. Team USA only had one pair of 9k's, slovakia had two. Even the majority of the Norway team was rocking vapor xxx's.

How many do you see on youth teams? Even teams from fairly well-to-do areas have far more low end models than XXXs.

Chadd, its time for a road trip. Visit Philly on Saturday or Sunday when Atlantic Youth teams are in from DC, Hollydale, NJ Devils, NJ Colonials, and Ice House Avalanche. I'm sure you will be surprised by the number of travel youth players(AAA, AA, A,) who wear Vapor XXX. These teams are in my building every weekend. The #1 skate we sharpen is easily Vapor XXX among these travel players. Maybe it is regional but it is real.

Jr

Maybe that's a cheaper low end case. Who knows, I guess we'll have to wait and see. By the way it's just my opinion but those sneaks are fugly.

Keep me posted as to when the one90's are available in your area. I'll be first in line. I have G9's now and I'm unhappy overall with the constant taping of the Graf boot. My Vapor 20's never needed tape.

Visit our arenas, you won't see that. Of my 1500 regular sharpening customers, perhaps 5 or 6 have XXX's. Only one is an adult, one is a Junior, the others are high schoolers. That's a very small percentage. Mid-range Bauers and CCM's are the majority for sure.

I wasn't talking about "performance" of any particular skate, rather that "flashy" colors, etc, do nothing for performance. That skate could have been all black to appeal to everyone, that was my point. Wel can discuss "performance" after some unbiased test results are released.

A few yrs back I asked one of my Canadian wholesalers in Montreal why he didn't stock any white helmets. He told me Canadians won't wear them.

Are you related to Henry Ford? He thought cars should only come in black also.

Off topic, but there is a famous quote on that:

When Henry Ford was once asked why customers couldn't order a Ford Model T in another color than black he answered

"Oh they can have any color, provided it's black."

Somewhat this quote reminds me of my LHS before I got t'blades: One could get any hollow on a sharpening, provided it's 1/2"...

Maybe the guys with Vapor XXX don't like the way you sharpen skates! You do have this anti-Bauer vibe going!

On the contrary about the sharpening. We are the best in our area and perhaps the world! :D

I'm just stating facts about the so-called popularity of the XXX in my area. Regional demographics is a big factor. So while one can say 90% of AAA team player have XXX's in X area, it can be totally different in another. Exactly why you can get chittlings at McDonalds in the deep south!

I'm not anti-Bauer, just anti-hype. I haven't drank the purple "coolaid" like some, ... cough, cough. Part of the function of this board is to discuss problems, not to just suck up to the lurking manufacturers. Bauer makes a lot of great products and I sell a lot of them in my store, some are best selling items, like cages, helmets, etc. Having said that, they also make some crap. Anyone who has had broken steel can attest to that. Five kids playing in a tournement came in yesterday to have steel replaced. They were not happy campers, missed part or all of critical games. The number one piece of equipment with the most problems is skates, either with manufacturing quality or durability. I just don't have many CCM customers come in and say, they are fed up with CCM and will never buy their skates again.

How many Olympic medalists have you sharpened skates for?

If you are not anti-Bauer, I don't know who is!

I may have to contradict the "best in the world" claim since one of the guys from my LHS was picked to go over to Nagano to take care of the Olympics skates and gear.

It's ok, though, we all like to believe we're the best. ;)
