RBK Snakegrip

Recommended Posts

I just played around with one of their shafts in a LHS. The grip drove me nuts.. It makes the hair on my arm stand up strait. I couldn't stand holding onto the stick for too long before I had to put it down.

I know that RBK has a bad rep around here for breaking, but what do you guys think of the grip/shaft?

Wow..I almost bought one when a sales rep at SportChek told me they go for $199 but had advertised it for $100 incorrectly.

I dont see it as a "grip"...It just feels like a bumpy texture and I dont understand how that can help with grip..

its just different... instead of using stikiness to create friction it uses bumps... i dunno if it works better or worse than other grips becasue personally im not the hugest fan... but i have held it and it did do its job...

What an idiot, I hate how some dumbass' will lie through their teeth to try and sell you something......it's even better when they tell you information that you know is incorrect and then call them on it

It sounds like yesterday when I was looking at the Ultra Lite 100 flexes when a salesgirl asked what I was looking for. I replied "Ultra Lite 100 flex shafts." She the tells me that I should be looking at the 110 flex because "that's what NHL'ers use." I said that I was more of a wrist shot guy. She told me "the 110 flexes are better for that than 100 flexes and they will last longer." Then I walked out of the store without buying anything.

The snake grip (IMO) blows. It helps vertically along the shaft, but does nothing for the rolling sensation you can get. Which is the only reason I'd consider grip anyway.

exactly. It's almost counterproductive. Wears through palms faster and gives you no apparent advantage. The reason why you'd want grip in the first place is to prevent your shaft from twisting in your hands when you shoot. If the grip went in a perpendicular direction to what it is now, it'd make complete sense, but I guess the marketing guys at RBK have some crazy ideas.

The snake grip wasn't really "designed"

It does not wear thru palms faster. Where's the proof? It provides absolutely no fritction to the palm. It simply allows you to let the shaft slide and stop it when you want, e.g., poke checks. It does not provide anti-twisting friction, nor is it designed to. Some shafts have lots of friction, some have none..

RBK isn't the first put out this grip...Sher-Wood did the same thing on their ForceFlx (blue to white fade 100 flex and black to gold/orange fade 110 flex) shafts a few years ago. I had one, and the palms on my Eagles lasted just as long as with any other shaft I've used.
