Gotta go with AO on this. Not that Crosby isn't good, but AO is just a freak. He loves playing, I don't hear about him calling people out and he'll hit without fear. I agree with Crosby being a playmaker but that requires people with some talent around you. AO makes his own chances and plays on arguably the worst team in the league.

I think it's a shame that are sitting next to each other at the bottom of the conference, being rookies i would have loved to have seen how they would perform for the stanley cup. Because after all the media on both i doubt they would crumble under the pressure, and i would like to think there is more to come from both. But i guess we will have to wait to see how they both preform in years to come for the cup.

i say Alex "OV-1" hands down, he is bigger, stronger, faster, and that shot, wow. id say his passion for the game is just as strong as crosbys if not stronger, also what with "crosbys vision" i think OV can dish a pass just as good

I would have said Crosby prior to this year but with the way Ovechkin has performed thus far in the NHL you can't go against him. However, Crosby, along with a half dozen others, are also having great rookie years and would be a lock for rookie of the year in any year in recent memory.

i voted for AO, at this point, he is much better than sidney crosby, however, given that AO has live and play hockey for a tenth of his life longer than sidney crosby (2 years is a big difference when you're only 18), it's really unfair comparing the two. AO's attitude toward hockey and life in the NHL is fantastic, and he's as quotable as shaquille o'neal :D

Both AO and Crosby are amazing players and will only procede to be at the top of the league in the years to come; however, I believe that AO is actually making more of a name for himself ON the ice. Actions speak far louder than words and this is no different. Crosby has some major obstacles to overcome in his maturing into the league. Give it some time and he will be where he needs to and should be, but not yet. That being said, currently I would say AO based off stats and watching him play.

oh so lets move on to the best second year player who got screwed by the lock out...eric staal 32 goals and 31 assists for the top carolina hurricanes

How did he get screwed by the lockout any more than any other player?

The lockout actually helped Staal. By being able to spend a season in the AHL where he was the go-to guy in Lowell helped him to develop into the player that he has become this year. He played in all situations which is something that he might not have been doing in Carolina had there not been a lockout to wipe out his second NHL season.

How did he get screwed, if anything, the lockout was great for him. He had a so/so rookie year, then spent a year in the AHL where he was able to get his confidence up, and come in to the NHL ready for the big leagues, which he is now striving in.

I think the lockout was the medicine that helped staals confidence, and was a great thing for him.

I was still chuffed to see the caps beat the canes 5-2 though

Thanks for reading the first post. jackass.

For the record the panthers suck, the tarheels will not repeat, and the hurricanes will lose in the first round of the playoffs.

AO is leaving Crosby in the dust on the scoring sheet.

Crosby needs maturity. He needs help. When he is 20 and a lot more NHL experience under his belt he will be a different player. Let's hope he is.

AO is just plain explosive. I love how his family history drives him. When he speaks in his broken english you can just feel the desire he has to win and be the best.

You sort of get the feeling that Crosby feels entitled to greatness where AO just wants to just beat the entire league.

No matter you're thoughts on either player, these two are putting on a show in Pittsburgh tonight. Ovechkin put a bullet of a wrist shot over Fleury's shoulder and Crosby has two beauty assists on Recchi goals through two periods.

On a side note these two are exchanging autographed sticks after the game, pretty cool move on both parts.

I watched the Pens game the other night and the Leclair - Recchi - Malone line was their best by far.

If you're a GM you want Ovechkin. He has a motor that just doesn't quit.

Crosby might be more talented with his offensive skills, but seriously, if you've got the puck and one of those two is bearing down on you, who's going to make you more worried?

Ovechkin.
