Undefendable Spot on a goalie...

Recommended Posts

I was reading a blog and it said that sometime in Dec. Kelly Hurudy off HNIC ket slip about a undefendable area on a goalie.....Being a former goalie himself he ought to know. But I don't think that there is a spot that is undefendable is exactly true. But if it is I want to know what he said..Anybody catch it or remember?

Not being familiar with all their shots, being a righty would you guys say backhand this shot from the front of the net or get position for a left side wrister?

Yeah, coming from the left side as a righty would sort of defeat the purpose of the undefendable shot considering the goalie should be positioned in that spot. It only works if the guy can't get across fast enough because there is no way he is going to be able to get his pad up in the air or his blocker down fast enough unless you have the shot of a seven year old.

What do Sakic, Jokinen and Naslund shoot - right or left?

Left, I always see RH shots go above the shoulder, right beside the mask, as it's hard for a goalie to get his glove there.

A book I was reading said to always go below glove side (if RH) if you have a fast shot because response time is slower to move your arm down than it is to move it up. Makes sense when cosidering where the lefty's put it.

So this is the goalie's g-spot we're looking for here?

I think his G-spot would be anywhere that he actually stops the puck ... heh we're looking for OUR g-spot!

Put a slapper on his cup and watch his O-face. Extra credit when you break the cup. ;)

I would have to agree with mack. Over the right pad and below the blocker. Notice how that is where Naslund and Sakic always shoot.

Is that what is sometimes referred to as "7-hole"?

Seven hole is between the blocker side arm and his body. No goal should ever go through there really.

thoght that was the 9 hole? on ESPN a few years ago i THINK it was panger saying that it kinda looks like a 9 somehow... i didnt see it but thats what was said.

I've been told by goalie coaches that going toward the blocker side was good because duh, there is no glove there to catch it. Your guaranteed a rebound for someone else to pick up unless he sucks it up into his chest. If you have another player on your left and you are on the right, shooting towards the blocker might give a rebound to your other player if the goalie plays it wrong (most of the time). Shoot it towards the catcher and its gonna get snagged more likely.

What's easier, lifting a glove or a blocker that you are holding a stick in? Up or down, i'd think its harder to move the blocker than the glove.

yeah supposedly the 3 easiest places to shoot are

1) the 16inches [below blocker and above pad] if you master this one your middle name WILL be Sniper.

2) over the glove side shoulder but not top corner. hard for goalies to catch.

3) 5 hole

Wooow, there is no way you just put that pic on there. Way to give the kids a lesson on handling the goods man. Two thumbs (fingers) way up!!!

Im sure the mods appreciated it as well. Way to think it through.
