skate in the chin, 4 stiches, and a very bulky scar that im trying to get fixed since doctors at the walk in clinic dont know how to stitch. A guy stepped on my foot with his skate after practice, cut right down to the bone on my right foot, just at the big toe joint, if that makes sense. cut both tendons and the muscel, was in a knee high cast for 2 months. 3 concussion, and a dis located shoulder. and i think the shoulder was the most painful outta all of them.

Ive lost teeth and had a few cuts on the face. Nothing spectacular.

I did roll my wrist a couple weeks ago and it still causes an annoying pain.

I broke my femur in an "L" shape that went 2/3 of the way through and 3 inches up toward my hip. I got right up and put pressure on it and could feel my leg flex-I sat back down. Doc said that if I had put more weight on it I may have had a compound fracture that could have cut the femoral artery. He may have been giving me worst case so I would take it easy with the cast. Either way it was bad.

Man I'm glad I didn't play competitive hockey growing up. I only have an intermittent knee pain from losing an edge at the goal line and going into the boards full speed knee first.

Otherwise two broken arms (one was shattered pretty good), broken kneecap, and glass lodged in a kneecap from just being a dumb kid.

Nothing on a buddy of mine who got a concussion playing pond hockey and two weeks later snapped his elbow and had to get a metal rod inserted playing pond hockey.

my worst ever injury was from this year.

Dislocated Hip- luckily it went back into place on its own. I wasn't sure what happened at first so I tried playing on it. Went to go play the puck and had the most intense pain I have ever had in my life.

When I went to go see a doctor, I found out that had done damage to my abdominal muscles as well. Anything that required the use of the abs was painful. When I sneezed I could feel my hip move all around because the ligaments were still loose.

Fun stuff

Broken Hand (Blocked shot)

Broken Collarbone (checked from the side awkwardly)

Re-broken collarbone (same spot) (Checking from behind/bording. Slid into boards full speed)

Broken wrist, both bones. (Happened at the same time as one above)

Cracked rib (Got checked in practice, hit rib on dasher.)

My latest addition:

Shattered and displaced heel bone, multiple ruptured tendons and a broken ankle. After 8 hours, 13 screws, a piece of donor bone and a plate, the doctors were able to reconstruct my foot. This happened about a month ago and I still cant walk for about 9 more weeks. I get a temporary pin out in a couple weeks. I cant even imagine skating at this point. Looks like August or maybe middle of July for me.

Torn and evulged IT band. 4 screws to re-attach it and 4 months in a wheel chair as to not re-tear it out of the bone. Followed by crutches and 6 months of PT. Don't want to go through that again. ;)

Prior to my current beer league hockey "career" I was a professional cyclist, competing at elite levels since I was 14. Typical cyclist scenario.....over developed quads and under developed hamstrings caused the IT band to become overly taught and cause a significant amount of scar tissue over my lateral femoral condyle. First surgery was to double clip on either side my IT band to relieve the tension and allow the band to naturally stretch, at the same time the IT was laterally transected to do a roto-rooter job on the condyle for the amounts of scar tissue. 6 months off of the bike and then back to pro racing again. 14 months after that surgery in the Michelin Classic (criterium race in Greenville SC) I sprinted on a "bell lap" on a climb to get a few bonus points and the IT band ruptured out of the bone. My sponsor (Trek Rocket Boyz) pulled me from the team 6 weeks later. They covered all of my medical bills, but I lost my pay as there was a max of 8 weeks disability from Trek. While you are racing for them they take extreme care of you in both financial gain, and availability of equipment, trainers, nutrition etc etc.....once you are deemed an expendable asset....you're kicked to the curb. Smart business decision in a sport such as that, but takes the compassion and "human" aspect out of the sport.

Last weekend I was at right wing at a face off, first shift of the game. The puck deflected straight into my mouth off the draw, very weird. After a 3 hour drive, getting kitted up etc. total game time 1 second! Then off to hospital.

Lip was torn in two, knocked one tooth out and broke the other. Seeing the dentist tomorrow but the tooth that came out is feeling like its settled back in. Hopefully only need the one cap.

Wow, I started this thread 4 years ago. After ripping up my knee, I was afraid to touch the ice until a couple weeks ago. Thought I'd come back and look at some old threads! Any more injuries since the last posting?

I've been very fortunate throughout my playing "career" as I've never suffered any serious injuries per say and there were times where I played between 3 and 5 games a week. Today at 39, I am starting to feel weight of the years and so much abuse on my body though so I have all kinds of small annoyances here and there that are due in part to a 2 year stint in nets up till last September.

Oye. Where do I start.

Eight knee dislocations, one torn ACL. Tore all of the ligaments in my ankle two summers ago. Concussions, can't remember how many. Tore my groin, numerous sprains (wrists, fingers, knees, ankles). Perks of being a small player....

Now I figured out why Canada has a national healthcare system. Half you Canada would be bankrupted from hockey related healthcare expenses otherwise!!!! :)
