devilsrule711 0 Report post Posted March 2, 2006 is it workin better than tape and wax? and some of my board shorts came with that comb thingy
Langenbrunner15 0 Report post Posted March 2, 2006 If you browse around on the site you'll come across their hockey wax. Is it a big bar of wax? Nah, around the size of a hockey puck. thats the worst on surf boards!!! Go to sticky bums!!!
jmcary 0 Report post Posted March 2, 2006 Many of the guys use tape because that is what they have always done. I tried it,and thought it a waste of time to tape. Plus, the tape prevents one from putting the wax on uniformly. The idea is to create sticky bumps all over the face and back of the blade. The tape inhibits that process and is just one more hassle. jmcary 0 Report post Posted March 2, 2006 Some wax does come off when shooting and passing, but not as much as you would expect. I used to keep the bar of wax on the bench so that I could reapply in between shifts. I don't feel the need to do that anymore.

gavin 0 Report post Posted March 2, 2006 Well I ordered some of Mr. Zogs Sex Wax from his website.I bought the kind for hockey sticks... I assumed that that would be best?? For the temperature and everything... I've done nordic skiing so I know that temperature is a big factor with wax. So I'm thinking that's why jmcary found that the hardest surf wax was best. Maybe the hockey stuff is even harder/better for hockey conditions? The only caveat is that you have to buy at least 15 dollars worth of product. Meaning I got like 14 containers of the stuff. Oh well, maybe the guys on my team will be interested and I can share/get them hooked/start charging them.
jmcary 0 Report post Posted March 2, 2006 gavin misinterpreted what I said. I DON'T use the hardest wax. I use the coldest water wax. It is actually the softest wax. It remains somewhat sticky even when exposed to the very cold of the rink.

Oh well, maybe the guys on my team will be interested and I can share/get them hooked/start charging them. I hope you can change your order. you will be unhappy with that hard wax and you will never go through all of it. the harder the wax, the less grip you will get on the puck. The idea with surfboard wax is so that you can stand on the slippery fiberglass board without falling off. If you are surfing in warm water you need a HARD wax that won't get too mushy in warm water. Conversely, if you are surfing in the cold water of northern california, you need very soft wax because as the wax is exposed to the cold water, it gets harder and therefore less sticky. The softer wax stays sticky in cold conditions. You will be happy if you get the quick humps for very cold/ coldest water.
devilsrule711 0 Report post Posted March 2, 2006 but how long with the quick humps last, liike will the bar last me a season, month, week?
jmcary 0 Report post Posted March 3, 2006 I usually get an entire season from one bar of wax. If you go to beckersurf.com and order the wax container kit and about 6 bars of wax, you'll only be set back $14. You definitely need the container because that wax will get all over your gear if you don't keep it in something. Plus, the comb is part of the kit.
Quintin 16 Report post Posted March 3, 2006 I just use skate curb wax. Stick it in a bowl of hot water, leave it for 30 seconds and apply onto tape. Great stuff to use.
gavin 0 Report post Posted March 3, 2006 You're right, jmcary, I did misunderstand you. So I guess the hockey wax would be softer. And therefore better for using right next to the ice/where it is colder than Hawaii.Of course I said that I bought the hockey wax from the site. so I guess that it must be kind of soft. All I know is that says "hockey" on it. And "Mr. Zog's." And "SexWax." I'll just wait for it to arrive in the mail and see. I'm guessing Mr. Zog knows more about wax making than I do. OhMyGodImOnFire 0 Report post Posted February 25, 2007 There are like five million topics on stick wax, but I'll just post here because it was first :D.Is Mr. Zog's usually in LHS's? I checked my local sports authority, dick's sporting goods, and LHS, none. I usually like to get it not from the internet, but I might have to.

Ask your LHS if they will stock it. Tell them extensive research, here on MSH, shows it is the best wax and you want nothing but the best. If that doesn't work, order it online. ;)
LkptTiger 1 Report post Posted February 25, 2007 Great Skate recently made my life much, much easier by stocking Mr. Zog's in-store; no need for me to order it on-line anymore. It's the only shop I've ever seen it in.

At www.sexwax.com they have it for $1.08, but you have to buy atleast 14 ($15 worth of stuff minimum). I was thinking about stocking up and/or selling it to my friends, and people on my team.
