What was the extent of Cole's injury(ies)?

Compression fracture of a vetebra in his neck.

by the way u can ban me if you want i was just standing up for my home town player sorry if it was a little bias and out of hand but damn he is one of the hurricanes best players and he'll be out for the rest of the regular season maybe even the playoffs so go ahead
Hey Chris, use some punctuation. It's nearly impossible to understand your posts.

That's garbage, it was a hit with no intent to injure. That suspension is purely based on the result and not the actual play. He can say the defender should take responsibility, but come on, you don't give a guy a lane to the net and you are taught very early that a player turning his back becomes an attack situation.

I think the NHL took the right attitude.

I would rather give up a goal than end a guy's career.

Didn't see the hit so I have no further comments.

There are people out there purposely trying to injure other players, that go with much less suspensions than this, which is why I think it is unfair.

Orpik had no idea that Cole wasn't able to take the check, it happened in a split second, he didn't have time to say, vulnerable position, let'em go. Ontop, it's his job to rid a guy into the boards.

I'd compare it to running a yellow light in the street and hitting somebody who is turning. Your not in the wrong, but you may have been able to prevent it. However, the guy turning still had the responsibility to check before he turned.

I am sorry but what we have seen is a classic "if you can see the numbers... back off!" scenario, and one which the NHL had on their list of policing emphasis this year... as the season has gone on, the calls have become more and more lax on these hits again..and this is the result....I do not think it was malicious, but I think the habit of taking a shot at someone whose back is turned has become too engrained.....

Parents of potential players who see this, will tend to see other sports as being the best place to put "little johnnie" and "little suzie" to develop their athletic prowess. I saw this all too frequently when I was coaching A level peewee and bantam hockey...I saw at least 10 shots over a couple of years that could have ended up in a case of paralysys. You cannot have an exception to this rule....it is just too dangerous with the rigid board system of today's game. You must accept that a check has to be effected in a different fashion..pro or no pro levels.

Again in the days when I played as a youth, and although we wore no head gear for protection, this was almost never an issue. Boards were much more flexible, and any hit where the head was above the boards was either into thin air, or a forgiving mesh screen....plus in youth hockey, if you drilled some one head first into the boards....your own team mates would shun you..it was different then.

Even adequate grammer will do. That's what I use. I sort of like the feeling of a dangling participle.......feels like......freedom.

im guessing this is why coaches say its better to be checked on the boards rather than 3 feet from them.

i feel bad for y'all carolina fans (btw im a pittsburgh fan). i dont know what to say. cole kinda stopped, and orpik didnt know i guess. i never like anybody injured.

thank you but i did leave quite a skid mark with that rant

And you have earned a 3 day suspension for the post above your response to me. When we say stop, we mean it.

I finally saw the video for the first time during the Canes - Flyers game and it should have been a lot more. At least 10 games, if not more.

If Cole is not injured are we still calling for suspension? If Cole gets up and skates the next shift? The criteria is because the player was injured we suspend the other guy?

Not for me. I don't care if he hops right up and punches him in the grill, it should still be the same suspension in my mind.
