Why don't the Av's wear maroon/white gloves?

Recommended Posts

Some of us may think they look cool, but for the majority, I don't know if they're ready for that flashiness. Who knows? Maybe the players don't want to attract that much attention to themselves for wearing crazy gear. On this topic, who do you think wears the craziest looking gear out there in the NHL?

I could say the same thing for the Bruins. Why is there no yellow on there gloves, only black and white?

Flyers are the same way. One of the guys wanted to have black and orange gloves and Calrke told him no.

Also notice that they never have logos on the front of their pants. The Devils were the same way. I am not sure if that has changed however.

out of all players:

Marc-Andre Fleury's school bus yellow pads

Hey now!!! I happen to drool over those things every time I see him play. They just hypnotize me and make me go "Oooo" (Kinda like a SPED kid gazing at glitter)

They're supposed to attract the attention of the shooters so they don't see the net.

Wasn't that the theory with Roy's white pieces on the inside of his pads? Catch the shooter's eye and make the 5 hole look bigger.

I don't think the maroon of gloves, helmets, and pants goes well with the blue in the color scheme. I would rather see colorado wear navy pants, helmets, and black/blue gloves than maroon stuff. Although, I'm not that against the maroon helmets, I've been wearing one for my team for four years now.

I know that this is the theory behind the pads and that is the same with mine, but the still make me stare like I do at the beach :P

Its probably a money issue. Having plain gloves saves when call ups and trades occur. Plus, replacements for current players won't take as long.

Since when does the NHL care about money ;) ..anyways i'm pritty sure that their gloves are not different colours becuase they wouldn't match their pants..

I was watching a Sharks game a while back and I like how their gloves are black but have some teal to them. It got me to thinking about if I played on the sharks, I would have a custom pair of practice gloves made up that were mostly teal, with some black. I think that would look really cool and be kinda fun, but you wouldnt want that for your whole team as they are off the wall and a bit tacky. So I would assume that something like that might be some of the teams thinking. Imagine yellow Bruins gloves, with some black and white. Its the same as Teppo Numminen's white gloves that he uses for international play (I think its him). Again, they are cool, but a team with all white gloves would be out there.

Just my two cents.

They don't even use the orange jerseys anymore. They looked so much better than the current black ones.

I loved those Roy pads so much...

SRI, I believe detroit players used to be allowed to either have solid red gloves with white lettering or red gloves with white rolls and red lettering, but ive noticed this year the whole team (even yzerman, chelios, shanahan, zetterburg) switched over to the solid red style with white lettering, the reason i mentioned the players is i remember a FSN Detroit special on the equipment managers and how those players all used older style easton mits, any idea as what prompted the switch?
