Hart Memorial's trophy, most valuable of his team?

Recommended Posts

Thorton seems to be the definition of the award. He really does make his whole team better. It's amazing.

However, if the sharks don't make the playoffs, then maybe ...

jaromir jagr

marty turco

tomas vokoun

nicklas lidstrom

sergei zubov

I wouldn't be surprised if it goes to a goalie or defenseman this year given all the pro-scoring rules changes.

Finally someone giving Zubov some credit. Lidstrom has also been great.

Elias not playing half the season I think will hurt his chances

If the Sharks make the playoffs, hands down Thornton.

Everybody will say he's the reason they made it...

Otherwise Jagr is good bet.

And based on the most important player for any team term.... my personal (biased) farvourite Ovechkin.

The problem with picking Ovechkin is; How much worse could they be without him? Even with him, they aren't a very good team.

Nope. Its Redden's "turn" according to some announcers, writers, and such.

You coudl look at it that way...but the other side of that coin is...His play hasn't cost them many games but (almost) all of their wins are account of his play.

I think without him, they would be amazingly worse.

This is the first year in a while where a number of guys could win it and it wouldn't be a huge surprise. Definitely not a cut and dry decision.

Ovechkin's been a really good rookie this year, but for a rookie to win the Hart they have to be amazing a la Wayne Gretzky in 79'

For those who said Alfredsson, what justifies him over Heatley who has identical numbers, or even Spezza for that matter?

Because Alfredsson isn't just points, he is the quiet leader of the Sens. Losing Alfie would be a bigger loss to the team than either Heatley or Spezza.

Elias has really been the MVP for the Devils when he's played and is certainly their MVP, but he'd have to come back and really tear it up to even get considered for league MVP.

In my mind unless something dramatic happens during the last 20 games to change things Jagr is the obvious choice. There have been other strong players, but Jagr leads the league in points and the Rangers would really have to fall apart to miss the playoffs at this point. Sure, Lundquist has been great and the Rangers would be hurting without him, but I don't think the Rangers would be in a playoff spot without Jagr playing the way he has.

Without either Jagr or Henrik they would be in trouble. That said, here are the goalie stats from the Rangers.

Henrik Lundqvist 44 25 9 2.07 .927 2

Kevin Weekes 23 11 10 2.90 .895 0

I have to say Tomas Vokoun for the Preds. He has a young group of defensemen playing infront of him and he faces a ton of shots each night. He's almost singlehandedly keeping the Preds in the 4th spot -- they'd be higher up if the freakin Wings weren't in the Central Division.

Bahh! It's clearly Thornton. The best player in the NHL.

Actually i think the most complete player in the NHL is Forsberg, or give 2-3 more years to ovechkin and it will be him.Kovalchuk is also very very strong

I'm pretty sure Kovalchuk is still looking for his own end.

I've seen him come back off the point to drill someone a few times. Hartley could make Mario play defense.

Henrik Lundqvist or Tomas Vokon .

i may be narrow mined but how can a player who doesn't play on the pk win the mvp. i was watching nyr v bos and did not see jagr out on the pk at all. correct me if i'm wrong and he play on the pk. on top of that i didn't see him deep in his own end much.

norris- 1) lidstrom

2) panuf(sp)

3) redden or schinder

Calder- 1)panuf(sp)

2)ovie

3) crosby

disclaimer- i have not seen crosby or ovie play much but from what i have seen both are graet players

Calder next year- evenie malkin

1:02 on the PK today and he did make one great defensive play at the hash marks in his own end. Keep in mind that most defensive systems don't require a winger to be low in the zone very often.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/boxscore?gameId=260408001

thank you chadd for correcting me. as i said i didn't see him on the pk but i have been know to be wrong

like i said just because you score most of your teams goalsdoes not mean your the league mvp. the hart winner should be someone who contriubtes(sp) in every part of the game.
