Gear used in NLL

Recommended Posts

Just wondering what gear is being used in the NLL game on ESPN2 right now. Didn't know Rbk was sponsoring the league over Warrior and Brine. But are those rebadged Jofa 690s they all wear? And are those normal Rbk gloves? Idk if anyone caught it, but are the goalies waering some Eagle gloves? Just a bit curious.

im pretty sure those are regular RBK gloves and yeah they are rebadged Jofa 690 helmets i guess since the LAX indoors is played on turf over an ice hockey rink i guess the equip. goes with the mentality of being on an ice rink

I highly doubt that those guys are using hockey gloves, if you've ever seen a lax stick you can't grip them well with hockey gloves. They might be re-logo'd gloves tho.

Well, I've played some lax...cut corners and used my hockey gloves. Wasn't too horrid and I was using cheap crap gloves. I never used Rbk gloves before, but if they close to the Bauer Vapors I've tried-- guessing it could be pull off.

This is NLL we're talking about, not MLL. NLL is played indoors on a hockey rink covered with astroturf, MLL is played outdoors on the standard huge field.

I live in orangeville & am tied down with Terry Sanderson and the know how of Lax equip around town. RBK is a major sponsor now and are making all the equipment for the NLL. Orangeville Lacrosse Association has now jsut signed a deal with RBK for the 2006 summer season and all junior teams in town are wearing all RBK stuff for free. What you are seeing is RBK gear spacifically modelled for the NLL and Lax players.....hope that answers your question

Yeah, the gloves are basically the 8k Hockey glove minus the back part of the cuff, which is replaced with laces for mobility and a different palm (which alot of players cut out anyway for a better feel on the stick). The thumb is also differnt, its not a locked thumb as they are with hockey gloves, the thumb bends to get a better grip on the stick. All players used old Jofa helmets this year with RBK stickers on them, where as they had had options of Bauer/Nike, CCM, Jofa, Gait (which is essentially an Itech HC-100 with a lacrosse cage) in years past. The deal makes RBK the official Glove worn by all the players (except Casey Powell, who has a contract w/ Brine) and some goalies got away with wearing Eagle hockey gloves. All jerseys are done by RBK as well as most merch from what I saw. The deal was made so close to the start of this last seaon, RBK has yet to make a stick, but when the do all players will be required to use it.

I'm all for RBK taking lacrosse and trying to further it, but i think every player using an RBK stick is crossing the line. Lax sticks dont have as much variety as hockey sticks (as in curves and lies) but if wouldn't want to be forced to play with something. Players have differnt pockets (which could be strung in most sticks) and players prefer different offsets on their stick. If RBK can provide all these options it won't be all bad, but I still think they are pusing it.

The link to the deal is here

Too bad this is such a retarded deal. If someone tried to take away my Harrow lax stick I'd slash the shit outa them with it. The sticks they're using MUST be repainted becuase I know a few guys who play in the NLL (one being a teacher from my school who plays for the Bandits) who will ONLY use certain sticks and buy large stocks of them at a time (think Shanny with his aluminiums).

IMO i think the helmets would be sweet with say a jofa chrome hockey cage or a visor

hey lets throw on visors for lax, o ya, a ball/ shaft to the face wont break it

On a related note...I'm always looking at other sports to see if there's a lighter, less bulky piece of gear I could use in the local beer league. I tried on a pair of lacrosse gloves at a local shop and fell in love.

I used them last night for the first time and the increased feel was incredible. It was like wearing batting gloves. On the negative side there's not any padding on the sides of the fingers so there's potential for injury there, but other wise...wow!

I wearing mine in a no-check mens league (I don't even wear shoulder pads). I wouldn't recommend them for full check hockey as the pretection is not up to par with a hockey glove, tho some of the higher end ones may be better.
