Best Hockey Movies

Recommended Posts

Just a quick post to see which hockey movie people think is the best.

  • Slapshot
  • Slapshot 2 - (it exists)
  • Mighty Duck franchise
  • Miracle
  • Youngblood (Watched it last night on OLN)
  • Mystery, Alaska

I have to say that Youngblood was not that bad.

What do you think?

has anyone seen the original miracle movie? i think it was called miracle on ice. it was horrible. i saw it on the history channel and it was pretty bad. i know it was created in the 80's but it looked like it was made in someone's garage.

Yeah, it wasn't that good. Youngblood was kinda funny, I thought. Had some of those cheesy fake ice hockey effects that seem fit for an '80's movie. I like how Charlie Conway in "Mighty Ducks" copies Dean Youngblood's skate-in-a-circle-before-taking-a-last-second-penalty-shot move, and the gawdy CCM helmets that the players wear. It also felt like I was watching a real Slap Shot 2 at times.

Saw the original...Carl Malden was Brooks. They tried to make it more realistic by using the actual hockey footage mixed in.

Slapshot is the ultimate hockey movie. It is as fun to watch today as it was when it first came out (I remeber it well...I was 12 and saw my first set of naked boobs)

Miracle with Kurt Russel was excellent. It brought back alot of memories from that era. I don't think alot of young people can fully appreciate what state the U.S. was in at that time and how much that event helped....If you ever get the chance read Boys of Winter, you learn alot about the team.

The Ducks movies are okay if you are under 10.

Mystery Alaska was watchable, except when you look at Russell Crow trying to skate.

Just watched Youngblood on OLN....glad the 80's are gone. Laughed real hard at the stick fight.

Slapshot 2....should never have existed

Slapshot

anyone seen that film Gross Misconduct?

Gross Misconduct sounds familiar. What is it about? Or maybe I'm thinking about something I read on the Maple Leaf Gardens scandal.

Is "The Rocket" even showing in the US? If it is, I can't imagine it showing outside of the big markets. BTW, I know there is a film on Ted Linsday called, "Net Worth". I don't know how much hockey is in it, as the point of the film is how Ted fought the League's owners and created the player's union.

 Shouldn't be much of a question on these:

1-Slapshot- No doubt the best for pure entertainment value B)

2-Miracle-Fairly accurate-Kurt Russell makes a good Herb. I saw a HBO special on it and they said Kurt spent a lot of time studying Herb to get it right. At least Kurt knows something about the game anyways, his kid was a goalie in Aspen.-decent hockey scenes with real players.-I think anybody who likes hockey remembers exactly what they were doing when we won that game!

3-Mystery Alaska-Cool story but Russel Crowe can't skate to save his ass!-Mike Myers and his "Rub and a tug " line=LMFAO

4-Youngblood-Good storyline,Crappy hockey- Cynthia Gibb=hottie (I was like 15-16 when it came out) I was told by a couple guys that played upper tier hockey in that time frame that they could see some of the stuff happening . I will agree the stick fight was totally lame

5-The Ducks trilogy-good in a "cute" way-for the kids-Emilio Estevez on skates for real??? If somebody in the novice beer league yells "I am Goldberg, the goalie" one more time I will NOT be held accountable for my actions :D

6-Miracle on Ice-Cheesy editing-Karl Malden? He led by a nose! Shitty acting all round-I think it was made in an ice fishing hut instead of a garage

7-Slapshot II-Thoroughly sucked-I'd love to see that Baldwin twit on skates. To qoute Lanny McDonald " We'll fix your wagon and give ya a tune up boy."

Anybody remeber a movie from the 70's that had Robbie Bensen as a hockey player-I think he got hurt and switched (in more ways than one?) to figure skating?

miracle would have to be the best movie hockey quality wise, they did a great job making the hockey look as real as possible. but how funny slapshot was puts it on top

I just watched Networth last week on DVD. Fairly good show considering it was a made for tv movie on CBC. I borrowed it from the library so if anyone's interested they should check there first.

Miracle is my favorite. Im actually doing a project about the Miracle On Ice for history class right now.

There was also this movie that Disney made called H E Double Hockey Sticks. Its definately made for younger kids though, it was pretty cheesy.

I enjoyed The Mighty Ducks the most even though it is a kids movie, Slapshot made me laugh the most (one of the brothers taking a slapshot and hitting the organist in the head), Miracle had the best message, but then again Mystery Alaska is funny too, just flawed plotwise.

what about M.V.P. the disney movie that had a chimp playing hockey. my son who is 2 1/2 loves that movie.

i'd say slapshot hands down. two of the guys who played the hanson brothersw actually played in the nhl.

bill ranford was a hockey double for eddie cahill who played jim craig. ranford was the goalie in all the action sequences. when a speaking part or close up was shown it was cahill.
