How to Change Glove Color?

Recommended Posts

Alright guys, I need to know how to change the color of my gloves. I am playing for a new team this year and the coach said they have to be navy/white or all black. The gloves I have now are black/red/yellow. I think the easiest way would be to make them all black.

Some ideas that I have to do this are to simply take black tape and cover all the red/yellow areas. Or to take a black Sharpie and color over the red/yellow. I don't know how a Sharpie will write on leather thought. I do not know how well those ideas would turn out so I am in need of more suggestions and ideas.

Do yourself a favor and get new gloves... come on.

That's not the option he wants, he wants to keep his gloves as they are.....

Looks to me like someone got a little EBay happy and now this someone is stuck with funny colored gloves............If you ask me, the gloves dont look broken in at all so put them back on ebay, sell them, and get another pair from somewhere.

I think they wernt off ebay they were his old teams gloves(maybe why it says Barons on them)

Bingo. I actually have 2 pairs of these gloves. I used a pair for 3 years and now they are beat to hell. This pair were a teammates of mine who never used them. He is also playing for a different team this year and I asked if he was going to need them and he said no so he gave them to me. That's why they look new because they kind of are.

You could always get some black duct tape and cover the cuff roll and fingers with that. It should be wide enough to cover the cuff roll with a single strip. For the fingers you could trim the pieces to fit. Just make sure the glove is clean by wiping it with rubbing alcohol to degrease it and letting it dry before applying the tape.

I have used electrical tape before on my silver/black Eagle limited edition gloves and they turned out great, you can hardly tell looking at them close up. I have also use vinyl dye before on some early M1 samples that were leather and nylon. The Vinyl dye works really well on the leather parts of the gloves, and would definatly recomend that over straypaint as it sinks into the leather more, unlike spray paint which sits on top and scraches off pretty easy!!

Go to a leather supply shop and get the following items

1 De-glosser-this product removes the glossy finish and cleans the leather prior to dyeing

2 Leather dye of your choice

3 Finish sealer- this will put a bit of gloss on the gloves once they have been dyed and seal the finish so it doesnt rub off everywhere.

Follow the directions and you should have no problems

I have done this to numerous pairs of gloves with good results

If you arent comfortable doing this kind of work a good shoe repair, saddlery repair or leather shop can do it for you

Those gloves may not be salvagable. I don't think it'd be too much trouble duct-taping the cuff.. But the finger tips, the red lining, and the yellow carbon pieces are going to be a major pain. When all is finished, you may have an extremely comfy pair of gloves that look like complete hell.

Have you tried using black electrical tape?

i did that on a pair of ealges similar to those (same material) and it worked really well...much better than anyother type of tape...no one noticed that i had taped them

I used a black sharpie to cover up the logo on a pair of gloves in college. It took several coats but it did cover up the red writing, and didn't look too bad. After time it does fade away though. I had to reapply about 2 or 3 times through the season. I'm not sure if it would cover up your yellow though.

i know your new, but im pretty sure that the original poster liked the gloves and still wants them, so come on, offer help, not smart remarks!

imho i think a permanent marker would be good, but its gunna be permanent, if u dont want to ruin the glves i would take them to a leather shop or use tape.

Honestly, I think the best way you can change colors is with tape. I did this to a pair of Response gloves back a few years ago. Electrical tape should be first choice for the flatter parts of your gloves, which in my opinion, are the yellow regions, including the letters on the cuff.

I used duct tape for the whole glove, and it turned out nicely, but in your case, the less duct tape you use, the better they will look.

Use duct tape on the fingers, as they are a large region and may require thicker pieces of tape.

When you are done, the fingers should look the color of the tape that you used. My gloves were silver, and the fingers turned out very well.

The red lining of the glove is the hardest part. Be patient. Tear the duct tape horizontally to make it thinner to the point that it would surround the red, and follow the lining. Afterwards, to prevent it from coming off, rub it in deep so that the glue on the tape settles into the nylon.

If there are no holes in the leather, the tape should come off easily in the case that you need to remove it.

My Response's had holes, so when I removed the duct tape, I was treated with the pleasant surprise of larger holes.

Hope this helps.
