Think I Found the A6 vs A6X answer back about 25 pages, but any input still appreciated :)

the A6X rocker arms are the upgrade from the A6 rocker arms, they are more robust and tighter around the knuckle area where the rockers meet each other.they make a tighter fit with less unnecessary movement.Go to page 216 and 226.

I am about the same shoe size as you, except I am using an 8.5 Tour at the moment. I went with the A6 and have found them to be a good fit. I was using the hummer frame earlier and I feel that the sprungs don't stick out as far (this might be because of the slight movement)and my skating has improved. For me I am more stable, and am more agile on them. I think my speed is down but this is from just not playing enough this year.

What measurements are you wanting? Wheel to wheel or just the frame?

I say to all those at curious - make the jump and give it ago, you wont regret it.

Hey everyone. I'm ready to make the jump to sprungs, but I have some questions I hope ya'll can add some info on for me. I've emailed sprung as well but figured I would try get some opinions here from those of you who use the frame.

I fit right in the middle between A6 and A7s (10 US shoe, 44 EU, wear an 8.5 CCM or a 9 Tour, generally). Anyone out there of a similar skate size that can give me their opinion on the stability / balance of skating on the A6/A7 or both? Can anyone provide precise measurements on the length of the frame on A6 and A7? I skate on 243 and 250 mm frames right now.

Also - can anyone explain the difference between the A6 and A6X? I've looked around on the forum and the sprung website without finding an answer.

I'm the same skate size... go with the A7, more stability, more options. You can choose to use all 80mm, all 76mm or whatever. I've tried the A6, A7, and A8 and found the A7 to be the best for me. I used the A6 for about 2 years before moving to the A7, and although I still would get on the A6 once in a while, the A7 gives more stopping power without sacrificing on the mobility and turning.

Thanks darmin. For measurement I am looking for the frame length from the front edge of the 1st rocker arm to the back edge of the 4th, level with the axles, and without wheels. If they stick out less than the hummer, I suspect they are <250mm, which is good, by my measure :).

Thanks for the reference back to 226.

A6 Wheelbase of 9 5/8"

A7 Wheelbase of 10"

A8 Wheelbase of 10 17/32".

So for anyone used to mm frame measurements

A6: ~244.5mm

A7: 254mm

A8: ~267.5 mm

For comparison, 243mm is probably the most widely available size for slalom/freestyle/dance chassis (desired qualities: maximum control & response / minimum turning radius), to the extent there is such a thing. SEBA and some other high end companies also make 231mm chassis . CCM tridi chassis in medium skate size range are ~250mm. The old Mission HiLo (72/72/80/80) frames are right around 250 as well in medium, tho I don't have one here for an exact measurement. New Missions (76/76/80/80) are slightly longer (the old 72/72 chassis will not accomodate 76/76 - the second and third wheels rub) and are probably in line with the A7.

A7s with all 76 sounds solid, though maybe just a tad longer than I want. I wish the A6s fit all 80s. Damned physics.

Length wise a 243mm frame will accomodate all 80mm wheels (barely, but it will), so I am assuming its an issue of clearance under the boot?

I am ready to place an order / pre-order... whatever it takes for a set of the Mag-Alloy's. You mentioned early July, is there a contact point at Sin Bin (Alberta)? I would like to get the wheel in motion (sorry for the pun!!!). Their website, only seems to have a phone number, is there an email-id that I can use?

July is new inventory and A6X time. The mag alloys aren't even on the 3D board yet. Proto-pre-ordering won't help yet unless you're talking enough pre-order so we all get some. Can you spare a guy $30K? ;)))

Thats the setup I've currently got.

Looks wise, the setup will seem like its too long, but give it a whirl and you wont notice it at all, even during crossovers...

How did you all take out the rivets from the original skate holder without a rivet press?

I used a thin drill bit and drilled them out. That works for me every time.

Hammer and long punch. Converted about 15 skates so far. To me the difficult ones are the copper rivets.

How do you remove your copper rivets, just hit them on the bottom side of the skate and the other rivets from the inside?

Hammer and chisel, basically to shear off the top of the copper rivet, most of the time it comes off pretty clean as the copper is real soft. Then using the long punch and hammer to tap the rivet from the outside... Else:

Use a flat head screwdriver or a chisel, then lightly tap it with a hammer to get it under the copper washer.

Use the screwdriver to leverage it upwards to give it more gap underneath the washer

Use a 'carpenters pliers' (i think thats what its called) to grip the washer, and then bend it over the end of the copper rivet

Once the copper washer comes off, then its using the punch and hammer to get the rivet out.

carpenters pliers... get the cheapest ones you can find. I bought mine for $1 at the discount shop and it works great.

The cutting edges of the pliers are not sharp enough to actually cut the copper washer unless you use lots of force. The the rounded head of the pliers allow you to give it more leverage when trying to get it over the top of the copper rivet.

I might do a pictorial the next time i convert, but I just did a conversion a couple of weeks ago and wont be doing one soon.

Regarding what Sprung Chasis I should order from SinBin... I skate on size 10D Bauer RX:60's, that seems to be right on the line between the A7's and A8's. What advantages are there for one or the other?

The other question I have is what wheel combinations can I run on these? I have been using 76-76-80-80. My guess is that I should keep on with that set up?

You could go with either the A7s or A8s - the A8s would give you a bit more speed and stopping power at the expense of a longer wheel base. The A7s would have a smaller wheel base and be more manuverable.

You can use either an all 76mm setup or an all 80mm setup, but do not mix the sizes. Sprungs are meant to be used with wheels all the same sizes. A6s were designed to be used with all 76mm and the A7s and A8s with all 80mm, but all 76mm will fit/work with any of them. 80mm will only fit on the A7/A8. The reason why some people would use 76mm on the larger chassis would be to increase manuverability and shorten the wheel base.

Also, I've found the Sprungs provide more grip than a traditional chassis so I was personally able to go with a harder indoor wheel without any slippage issues. If you go with a wheel that's too soft it's like using a great suspension system with flat tires - you may want to go up a level in hardness vs. your current wheels. Eg. if you were using all Gold revisions on Sport Court then you may want to switch to Bronze or the new Steel wheels or go to 78a or 80a instead of 74a or 76a on polished concrete. Going harder was recommended by Sprungster a few times earlier in the thread.

I wear 10s and the A7s are a better match for the shoe sole size and its curvature, and less overhang at the ends. These were my 10/A7s until one of the Corona Ducks minors players started using them. My Eastons were 10/A7s too, and are on the top scoring Ducks minors player. I mounted both of mine with minimum stick-out in front so I could reverse on my toes better.

I spoke to the guys at SinBin yesterday, they also recommended the A7's with all 80mm wheels. They were fantastic to talk to, very enthusiastic about the Sprung's and willing to help with the install... After installing 150 sets they have learned a few tricks above and beyond the provided instructions! I sent in my shipping info and will be placing my order today. Can't wait!

Another interesting point is that they suggested that with the Sprung's I can get away with a harder wheel. They spoke very highly about the Revision Steels, I think I will give them a try!
