KOR Shift 1 and 2

Recommended Posts

SRI,

I am going to be ordering some KOR Shift 1's from HG but have a few questions. Since you seem very knowledgable about these skates and it sounds like you work there is there any way I can call you to discuss my questions or is there anyone else there you would recommend I speak to? Thanks!

James

Someone please enlighten me.

On a whim, I tried on a pair of Shifts at the local HG. Unfortunately, the closest thing that I associated them with was...a circa 1970's Chevy Caprice - kinda like a land yacht. They were wide in the wrong places and clunky feeling.

I keep hearing they're "the most comfortable" and they "fit all foot shapes." Is there some special magic that happens when they get baked? Does the composite material shrink around your foot? Looking at the skate from the bottom up, the Unibase looks really wide around the forefoot, and feels that way too.

Is someone who's dropping a few benjamins on these supposed to take it on faith that they will mold well around their feet?

My local HG finally got some Shift 1's in stock for the sale. Yesterday I had the opportunity to try some on in person.

Wow - do they feel different than the Shift 2's. It's much narrower fitting. Out of the box, they fit almost as well as my Graf G3's out of the box.

The only thing is I think my foot is too shallow for the Shift 1's. I laced them up, and the spacing between the two rows of eyelets looked more like I was wearing a pair of tennis shoes, but not as bad as an army boot. Pretty evenly spaced all the way up, but much closer together than I'm used to seeing on skates. Probably even closer together than Fletch's picture here.

Yes, same for me...coming from my VectorPros, especially with my custom insoles, my lacing on my Shift1s is much tighter and my eyelets closer together...tried the neutral pitch, but i have to change to +1, felt to much on my heels. Also have to get used to the neoprene-socks, I hope the stitching/overlap on them don't rip to fast. But very comfortable and btw, I think my VectorPros are stiffer...maybe because of the higher cut too.

So is it a problem or not to have the boot wrap the foot so much with these skates? I always thought that if the boot is too deep, it'll crease sooner and break down sooner.

I have baked my Shift 1's twice now and skated in them 3-4 times. Last night, the inside of my left ankle started to get a little bit blistered. The question I have is, they fit pretty well now, can I take say a blow dryer (don't have a heat gun) to the inside of the left boot and then put my foot in it to mold it a bit more? Or should I continue to wear them and break them in more. Thanks!

That is something that will not break in, you have to heat it if you want to change the fit.

I skate in a 10d Nike. Just printer the SRI foot chart and my foot is off the chart. I wear a size 14 sneaker. What size Kor should I order. Thinking 11.5 or 11.

Yes, you can use a blow dryer. I've done that myself. I'm not sure how far in the boot you are talking about where you're experiencing this problem. But, if it's down far enough I would recommend heating the skate up and then putting something larger than your ankle in the skate and leaving it in there. I used a tennis ball wrapped in a bandage and left it in there even after I skated in them for awhile. The problem disappeared and I haven't had a problem since. i didn't have any luck with just heating them up and putting my foot in to stretch it more. I did use that little blue pad that they give you to stretch out the problem spot too.

PM answered.

How about depth?

SRI, I'm curious to know this answer about depth as well. I have a feeling that the question of depth has to be treated a little bit differently with these unique skates.

Hi Guys, I have been reading through all of this Kor Shift1 stuff and the information is great! I don't have a Kor dealer near me, so I have to order online. I contacted Kor and this is what they sent me. Does this seem right?? I am a 8.5 Shoe...

Thanks!

Mark

I think that looks very accurate. My shoe size is 10.5 typically, unless shoes run small, like Nikes, and I have size 10 that fit perfectly. Toes just barely feather the cap when standing.

Although I would add I came from size 9 Bauers that were just a tad small, and the Kors fit great in a 10. So I imagine my real Bauer size would be 9.5, so I am not quite sure if there is a one size difference. Maybe more like .75.

Great! Sounds right to me too.. I am in a size 6.5 Nike Flexlite 12's now, but I am having weird foot issues lately.. a few years after using them.. So I think it is time for a change....

At the time they fit great and the few sizes smaller made them perform a bit better in my eyes. But after the last month of weird foot pains I am convinced my skates are causing it....

I have a size 7.5d in Flexlite 12's (current boot) and previously worea size 8EE in Bauer 5090's, so ordered a size 8.5 KOR. They arrived last week and were too short :( Ordered another pair but this time 9.0 and they should arrive Tuesday - I'm sure these will fit OK.

So the chart above is fairly accurate, but if you're at the tight end of the boot size, then the appropriate KOR may NOT fit you.

I think 8 should be good.. my 6.5 Nike's (a very comfortable skate) are starting to hurt me and I am hoping the Kor fitting will alleviate me having to go down so many sizes.... ;-)

Hopefully that will be the case...

I have a pair of Shift 1's in an 8 and wear a size 9 shoe.

The skate is great. I haven't had a single problem with fit. It has never caused any foot pain at all. Felt good since day one.

I had the same issue. I'm a 9 in CCM Tacks and the recommended 10 was too short in the Shift2. Oddly, I seem to recall that I fit OK in the SHift1 as a 10 (go figure).

BUT, that being said, as TB in TX said, it's pretty close.

I already own Shift 1's that fit, but for the hell of it I printed out the sizing tool SRI provided in the other Shift 1/2 thread and it seems accurate. I fit into an 8.5 Shift 1 and that's what this size guide indicates I should take: http://www.modsquadhockey.com/forums/index...mp;#entry557045

Just make sure you line up the back with your heel and not the bottom of your foot (the heel sticks out a little further) as when I lined up the back of my foot with the line it gave me a size that I know would've been too small (as I tried on an 8 in store and my toes were bent...on the 8.5 my toes just barely touch the end of the boot). When I aligned my heel with the back line the sizing was correct.

I wouldn't judge by shoe size as everyone wears there shoes differently - using that printed tool on legal and knowing your proper sizes in other brands is more useful. I wear 10.5 Running shoes, 10W Dress shoes, 10 Sandals, 9.5 soccer cleats, and 10 baseball cleats. In skates my sizes would be a 7.5 E CCM Vector (tried on), 7.5E One90 (tried on a friends 7.5D), 7.5D Flexlight (wore an 8D for roller, but it was slightly long), 8.5EE Mission L7 (currently use with a Sprung chassis for roller), 8EE Vapor XX (tried on), and wear 8.5D Kor Shift 1's. My shoe sizes don't line up with that sizing chart - the skate sizes give you a better idea.

Thanks.. I had not seen the sizing guauge.. I will try that and see what I come up with!!

Thanks again!

Hopefully the gauge was adjusted after the Vegas show, it was a half size off for me.

Has anyone else who got Shift 1's from HG had problems with the rivets? I got 2 pair and on both pair I can feel the rivets on my toes. The first game I skated in them the brass threaded ring on the inside of the right boot came off and was loose in my boot the whole game. After I removed the ring I stressed the holder and it still felt really solid so I don't know if it actually came off or was just an extra that made it under the neoprene toe sleeve. Is this worth returning them for replacements? Since both pairs that I got have this problem I'm wondering what the odds are that the replacement pairs will be ok.
