Wings goaltending solution...sort of

Recommended Posts

The only way I like it is if he signed for a really small amount, like $750K. Given his last two seasons in the NHL I'm shocked anyone would sign him, let alone Detroit.

This isn't a deal too laugh at unless he has a one number contract, if he gives them upper tier numbers for 60 odd games then he deserves his money. Otherwise, they still have Osgood and aren't out financially like they were last time around.

Sometimes it is just really hard to be a fan of an Original Six team! Well, at least they won't be in contention for the President's Trophy next season. Signing Hasek is not a solution. It just creates more problems when he gets hurt. Team Europe? How about Espo's Masters of Hockey? Sounds more like it.

Try being a Hawks fan. It's like being a cubs fan with a bad owner.

Being a Hawks fan is just going down to another level. The Hawks used to kick butt when I was a kid, back in the Original 12 era. Even during the 80s with Denis Savard, there was some excitement in Chicago. Now.........

The worst part is Wirtz is pretty much already embalmed so he might actually live forever.

Am I alone when I say that Hasek was one of the best goaltenders in the league last year before his injury?

GAA: 2.09 (2nd in league)

SV%: .925 (2nd in league)

5 Shutouts (t-5th in league)

This is not a bad signing for Detroit under 2 conditions:

1- His groin is completly healed

2- he signed for a small amount of money.

He was good, but he also had the best team in the league around him.

So did Ray Emery-

what are his stats you ask?

GAA- 2.82 (20th in league)

SV%- .902 (t-20th in league)

very marginal if you ask me...

Curtis Sanford and Pascal Leclaire both on teams bad enough that we don't have to argue both had better stats than Ray Emery with the Sens...

all I'm saying- when healthy, Hasek is still a quality goaltender.

Combine that with arguably one of the top 3 defenses in the NHL.

The Wings need to worry about getting quicker up front...

Hasek is still getting older as we speak. Oh wait, now he moves to the easiest division in hockey! Chalk him up for all those Blues, Hawks, and Jackets(Red Wings have their #) wins. Hasek will still blow a tire heading to the playoffs. "Trouble in turn 2."

I don't doubt Hasek's ability to play, I doubt his ability to play more than 1/2 a season. The Wings are my second favorite team, and I'm a big Hasek fan, but this signing makes zero sense to me. Look at his past two NHL seasons- Ottawa and Detroit. Him getting hurt devistated his teams. I'm still a little resentful on how he walked out on Detroit two seasons ago. Why would Detroit want him back after that? Signing him is a huge gamble. I normally don't mind taking gambles like that with skaters (Allison, Lindros, etc.), but I think it is beyond stupid to do with a goalie.

I agree that it is a very questionable signing on Detroit's part. And to be honest when I read the news the first word out of my mouth contained 4 letters.

IF Hasek can stay healthy, he's a quality goaltender. And he is a stop gap- Jimmy Howard is not ready for the big time yet, and having him as a backup is absolutly pointless- he needs game experience.

To me, this shows that teams like Anaheim and San Jose are asking too much for their goaltenders.

Either that or Ken Holland has Cranio-inserted-Rectal syndrome... (also VERY possible)...

He also played in a very weak division.

I see this ending badly for Detroit fans.

Who played in the weakest division?

I was wondering the same thing....

This was an act of despersation on Detroits part. Yes things will end bad this year in det. Hasek messed things up when he came out retirement to play for det. and ruin things with Cujo as well as his history of injuries. I cant see the city welcoming him back with open arms.

I hope your ready to play Ozzy!!!

I don't understand why they don't re-sign Legace...Unless there was some kind of falling out that I do not know of. He is pretty much a #1, no? When Hasek goes down, he can take the shots

legace had confidence problems and lost the confidence the other players had in him.

i agree this will end badly. i'm already looking at howard being called up by the end of oct. hasek and befour should just retire. they are old and broken down. what more does hasek need top prove? he won a cup, world championship, gold medal. belfour on hte other hand still needs to pay that cop the remainder of the 1 billion dollars he bribed him with.

Knowone has even mentioned what this is going to do the Wings dressing room. The guy quits on them a few years ago and know he's back. I'm suprised a guy like Ken Holland would over look something that basic

i think this is a god deal for the wings, hes getting $750,000, with playoff based incentives(sp?), i think that 750k for about 50 or so games(if they can get that outta him) is a great deal for detroit
