i dont get all this grade 10 stuff, over here we have primary school - p1, p2 etc right to p7, then u go to high school which is 1st yr, 2nd yr, 3rd so on to 6th year and theres lower and upper sixth, im lower 6th right now, started on monday. We get this thing called EMA, were u get payed every 2 weeks just for showing up to school, £60 every 2 weeks is awesome and i only have 3 classes.

could someone say what age u are in each grade so i can understand what grade would corospond with what yr please?

And what do you call the big exams you do when your 16/17, in 5th year, if you have any? their called GCSES over here and you do 8/9 subjects.

I’ve tried to match it up for you…. I think this is correct….

Most, but not all, school boards have this general outline:

elementary or primary school running from kindergarten to grade 1 to 6

(corresponds to P1 to P7)

middle school grade 7 & 8

(corresponds to 1st and 2nd year high school)

high school: 4 years: grade 9, 10, 11 & 12 (age 14 to 17);

(corresponds to 3rd to 6th year HS)

Ontario used to have Grade 13 (upper 6th) which was for university track students but dumped it a few years ago to match the other provinces/states in North America.

I believe the SAT test is the equivilent of the GCSES.

just started grade 11, (second year in this school), so far the first two days have been fuckin brutal, even skipped today. i've got sick of this school far too fast.. not used to such a small school (200 kids for gr. 7-12). but i don't have much of a choice as the other school is 20 mins away but i've been considering it lately. f*ck! :( :(

We go back tomorrow. I'm actually quite excited because we're going back to a brand new school, this is the first year is open.

Im not going to university, Im going to a school Called SIAST(The Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science and Technology). Im taking a course on being an Automotive service Technician and a Course on Autobody repair. Its what I've allways wanted to do and theres a fairly good demand for it around here with all the rusty cars. not to mention great pay

I'm a freshman at the University at Buffalo (English major), taking 17 credit hours this semester.

I have to maintain a 3.0 to keep scholly, but I've been spending more time in the weight-room (and on the ice at the Pepsi Center, which is actually right across the street) than I have in the books, as I am hoping I can get my knee back into playing shape so I can play Junior next year...I don't think it's looking too good right now - there is an outstanding probability that my competitve career is over...

Im a junior in high school. only class worth telling about is automotives. i get to leave for half the day to a 3 car garage and learn how to work on cars and stuff.

I really know nothing about cars going into it. And it was a bad decision to take that class because lets say if I dont like to work on cars, then I just blew all college oportunities away. I should have taken normal classes, so I can get into a reg. college. Going this route I have to take a Tech school way. Prolly gona shoot for Lincoln Tech in Indianapolis.

I have heard most people say your sophmore year is most important which is it and why?

Junior year is most important in my opinion. It is the last (most recent) scholastic year that colleges have to look at when you apply. Many people have been accepted to the college (or denied) that they apply to before the fall semester of your senior year is over...or at least they have submitted the application. So, for the college, your performance junior year is the most accurate guide they have to determine how well you performed in high school.

Wow, all you guys that talk about 3000 kids in your school. That's insane, we have maybe 600 at most, and we get people from two other towns too!!!

Man i LOVE EMA! Im also doing 3 classes which is sweet, 15hrs of school per week :D .

Hockeymom, in equivilent terms Ithink you're right about the SAT's with finals being the same as A-levels. However in grade 6 we have SAT's too.

Just started a college course for plumbing, I don't qualify for EMA :(

It's only 3 days a week though so I might get a job the other 2 days, any other UK people gotta do this "enrichment" thing?

I started on the 1st. I have 3 lunches so the day goes by really fast, but next half I wont have any basically. The only thing that is bad is the double Chemistry period every Wednesday and Friday.

And there is about 2800ish people in my HS. Our school is pretty big so its not that crowded, we have softball, baseball, football/lacrosse/track fields , a hockey rink and the school is on its own street just so you get an idea of the size.

When I was in HS we graduated abour 300 seniors, so I think there was about 1500 in our school, and that # has gone up since.

If you hate your teacher, its usually not that hard to change during the first week of school. I did that a few times. One was because my history teacher was the wrestling coach, and I wasn't going to wrestle that year. Definitely would have been hell.

Our science department was awesome. One teacher was the Lax coach, built surfboards, drove a 60's VW mini-bus and would go out during periods off with about 4 other teachers to get high. Another science teacher got fired my senior year for getting beer/drunk with a bunch of us...err...students during a skiing/snowboard trip. And another science teacher looked exactly like Dave Matthews and was/is dating a girl a year older then me.
