Replacing JOFA 6090 Shins w/RBK8Ks

Recommended Posts

Get the 8k's. Their both light and very protective. This is a no brainer because these are some of the best pads on the market. I've had mine for over a year now and find them fantastic.

I don't quite understand this desire for "light" equipment. Surely the 200g (tops) difference isn't really...a difference?

Well, Jofa 6090 are very protective. Yet I do find them to be a little on the heavy side in my 16" size. I'd live with them but the time has come to replace them (they're like 6years old now). Hence was the question.

Haha, I was only kidding mate. If I were you, I'd probably switch up too. How much did your Jofa's cost originally?

I got them on sale for like $70 I believe from an online store in NY. It may be that shipping was included. Don't remember. My previous pair of same was from Discount Hockey or something (in CA) for like $90.

Well, I did a search and found you another pair if you're interested. They're on eBay right now and a size 16". You might wanna go to your LHS and compare the 8k's to your 6090's.

Thank you. Looking into them.

There's a risk they weigh same as the 6090 model though (without the extra calf protector I don't use). They indeed look like same shell and even same lining.

I have both the 8K and the 6K, and I have also come from the 6090. I prefer teh 6K over the 8K. I found the 8K even bulkier than the 6090.

Thank you!

I actually don't feel that the 6090 are too bulky. I am looking for ligher pads. Are you saying that the 8Ks are lighter than the 6090s but aso are bulky? BTW, what level do you play? Thanks.

I found my 8K's both heavier and bulkier than my 6090's. I was extremely happy when I got my 6K's and have stuck with them ever since. I play rec/beer league ice and inline.

Yeah, got me a pair of brand new RBK 8K pro stock shin guards. Much better than my Jofa 6090. Lighter and don't really feel bulky, yet VERY protective. The pro stock version has a different knee cup and no detachable velcro straps besides for the one on top which I don't use. They also came with no side calf protector which I don't need but with he velcros for attaching one. Cost me less than the stock version - $60.

Thanks to all who contribed to this thread.

Thought I'd ask my Q on this thread,

I found a pair of 15" Jofa 6090 shin pads at a LHS that also sells used gear. It looks like it has barely been worn, and the price is $39 +tax. Does this seem like a good price for this model of pads? pros/cons of these pads?

thx

I don't know of many people that have used 6090's and didnt' like them. I've had mine for 9 years now and they are still holding up strong. (I do take very good care of my equipment though) 2 or 3 guys on my team also have 6090's and they are still working great for them.

Some may say they are bulky, but I honestly never noticed that. Theres a reason so many NHLers use this shin pad. . . . its got awesome protection and doesn't break down.

39.99 is an awesome price. Do they come with the liner? My liner has gotten worn out on the very bottom when I tucked my tongues under my pads. I ended up putting duct tape around the bottom of the pad where it was worn. I also sewed a peace of the soft velcro onto the liner where it attaches to the shin pad. I sewed that so that my liner wouldn't get worn out from removing it after every game to dry.
