Bad Calls

Recommended Posts

Hey folks. I know it's hockey, and I know it happens to everyone sooner or later, but this one is personal and I thought I'd share.

This one we caught on tape. The story is as follows:

Our guy, blue #71, has the puck, he gets by the defender, then the other defender knocks him over. Our guy rolls over on his back, gets his feet up which touches the first defnder who then grabs his stomach as if it hurt, but then gets back up as if nothing happened. The guy who knocked our guy down "falls over" and punches our guy on the way down before other people step in.

Here's the shit call, #74 who knocked over and punches our guy gets a double minor while our guy gets ejected from the game and suspended for 2 subsequent games for kicking.

What do you guys think?

And yes, this is ROLLER hockey.

I don't know if it counts, but in field hockey my team shot on goals, the ball was deflected, though the ref blew the whistle that it was a goal, at the same time the ball was deflected to my stick and I was about to shoot again, with a clear shot and no one around me. So I stop since the ref blew the whistle, the other team talks to the ref and says it wasn't a goal, so the ref takes his call back and gives it to the other team for a free hit. I was so annoyed that i got ripped by that ref.

Also another one with our grand final. Our captain is 1-on-1 with a guy in front of goals, the defender goes in for the tackle, the ref blows the whistle for a short corner ( a penalty for us) though the captain, was facing a different direction, turned around to the ref and said 'advantage', not know that it was our advantage, the ref gave the advantage to the other team, we lost 2-1

blue #71 deserves the suspension for being a sissy. Even though yellow #74 made him fall down and go boom, blue #71 should have got up and handled it like a man. Stand up, square up and go toe to toe if you feel you need to, you don't go kicking someone with skates.

I'm not sure how roller is called for the contact that yellow #74 used. Probably would have gotten a 2 minute penalty in ice. I'm guessing he gladding took the double minor after watching his team mate get kicked.

LMAO You really think that was an accidental kick?

It doesn't even matter to me if the other guy didn't get hurt from it, because kicking is basially intent to injure in my eyes at least.

The penalty for the kick was deserved as was the penalty for body contact.

The biggest rip I've ever seen was years ago, but I still remeber it - it was in a playoff game and we were down by one goal in the dying minutes. A team mate was on a breakaway and made a quick lateral move - the goalie also moved across and out. My team mate and the goalie made incidental contact, but neither one of them fell down - he slid the puck into the net. The goal was called off, plus they gave my team mate an interference penalty. He in no way meant to run into the goalie - he was trying to cut to far side and the goalie moved over and out of his crease and there was incidental contact.

A couple of the worst calls I've had made on me are:

1. I was skating into the offensive zone and an opposing player was trying to cover me and was right beside me. I made a quick cut to the left and he tried to follow, but caught an edge, went down and ended up sliding into the goal post. The ref called a penalty on me - probably assuming I tripped him or interfered with him after seeing the guy crash into the net. I hadn't touched the guy.

2. Our team has the puck and I'm trying to leave the defensive zone to get in the play. One of the opposing player holds my stick to prevent me from leaving the zone. I pull on my stick hard in an attempt to pry it loose which causes him to loose his balance and fall, but he manages to maintain his death grip on my stick. I should've just let go of the stick (that would've been the smart thing to do), but I still had a good grip on it myself and was pulled on top of him. The ref looked over - saw us lying on the ground and called coincedental minors. I spoke to the ref calmly about the situation later and he admitted that he hadn't seen the incident develop - he looked over and saw us rolling on the ground and that's all he saw.

In the video, the player who was accused of kicking, did extend his legs at the player. Its unclear of the amount of damage that could be done, but who knows. A kick is a kick.

For my personal bad call situation:

A player runs my goalie and the usual struggle in front of the net. I come up to the player and tell him: "You do that again, and I will F'n kill you" I get a 10 min misconduct for "threatening another player" and the other guy gets nothing for running the goalie.

This happend in a tournament. Fortunately I knew the tournament director who apologized for the poor officiating after the game. It didn't make up for the fact that I lost 10 minutes of game time, but at least I knew I wasn't crazy :) Everyone can get emotional while playing.

section final game to go to the MN state tourney. puck gets passed out from the corner and is tipped on the way so the player catches it, puts it down and gets hit. meanwhile his teammate comes up and onetimes it into the net. goal is allowed even tho it was a CLEAR hand pass. we ended up losing 2-1 and suddenly our childhood dreams were erased.

the feeling in the lockerroom after that was the worst feeling ive ever fealt in my life. ever.

One time I wound up and two handed a kid in the back of the knees after he hit me from behind, and got 2 for slashing. I definetly shoulda got a 5 and 10 or something. :)

I'm of smaller stature and when I get hit by bigger opponents I usually get all sorts of hands and forearm shivers right in my face that go uncalled. If a certain player does it to me everytime I can sometimes draw it by snapping my head back, but usually not. This year my first year in college so the kids will probobly be even bigger, so maybe I'll be able to draw some penalties.

ok, i have 2 pretty bad ones.

1) a guy cross check one of our players from behind into the boards, laughs in his face while he is down, knocks his stick away and gets 2 minute. End of the period, i tell him to calm it down he hurt thr guy pretty badly, i turn round, get sucker punched in the back of the head, he gets 2 minutes for rounghing, but me? 10 minutes for incitement.

We were 2 nil down when i came out of the box starting the third, so it was pretty sweet to get a slapshot from the halfway line and 2 assists to win the game 3-2, taught the dick a lesson.

2) Playing our first game of this season, with all the new zero tolerance rules, going in for a rebound, the puck is in play, i go in for it and touch the goalies pads, 2 minutes for slashing?! i literally jump out of the boz after this penalty, go to mark the point man in our zone, a guy 3 metres away from me steps on the puck and falls over, 2 minutes for tripping.

Now is it me, or are the courses to become a ref in britain to easy, i took my level 1 (linesman), and if you could barely skate, that was enough, there was no test, no real test of ability, and to ref up to a semi pro level, you need to go only one more level up. If any of you guys ever meet Muhammed Ashraff (head ref guy), please feel free to slap him.

Rant over...

Back when I was playing serious roller hockey a guy did that to me (kicked) in almost the same fashion needless to say I would let him get up I think his nose was broken. Never ever kick anyone that has to be the biggest cheap shot ever.

And for the guy faking getting hurt come on he rolled loaded his legs and jammed him in the lower half he wasnt faking at all.

Tell the guy to take his suspension and grow some balls!!!!!

We had a big scrum in front of our net and while the refs were sorting out the penalties at center ice, one of their guys skates into the crease and shoved our goalie. I got a runnning start from the blue line and puched the guy as hard as I could. His cage absorbed a lot of the blow. While we wrestled for a bit he poked his fingers in my eye and I threw a few more punches.

He got a major, I got a minor. Really bad call on me, but in my favor

Right call all the way around. #74 gets his first rough for the original hit and the second for the pop to the head. Your guy kicked with both feet and fully deserved the gate plus a couple. If you see that as a bad call then you need to learn a little something about this game.

gee, thanks.

I do however appreciate the impartiality of all of your views and input. It really helps me bring arguments to the team.

No one likes personal insults however.

It could have been phrased better but now that you mention your trying to teach your team then maybe next time mention that and keep your opinion out of it.....Its good that some one like yourself is trying to help the rest of the team and you should be commended.

I'm not the one that posted this story in a thread I titled "Bad Calls".

Well, before anyone else takes a shot at my manliness, anyone else have any stories?

I"m sure I'm not the only one here who has had to pull bits of fiberglass out of their face from a high stick no one saw...

Its not a shot at your 'manliness', just a statement. If you're going to create a thread titled "Bad Calls" and then offer up a video that shows anything but a bad call, folks will mock you. Toughen up, son.
