tell me WHY?

Recommended Posts

My 2 cents

They played hard at the end gunning for the 10th goal which is what the crowd was cheering for, and remember a hockey team is also a bussiness, and as Chadd said in the new NHL you can't let up on teams becuase your winning if you do that your team becomes sloppy eg. Flyers in the 2nd.

As for the celebrations late in the game, ok the goal didn't really mean anything but that doesn't mean a player can't get exited when he scores a goal does it?

Here's the reason why Esche was still in nets at 9-1. He was interviewed as to why he was getting I think his first start of the year and against a fast team like Buffalo on top of that. Esche said something like, I don't know, then he or the reporter said something like, you're not in Hitchcock's head... Esche then said something along the lines of... It's an empty space anyway.. can't remember his exact words but saw it on tv last night...

Correct, that's what I said back on Page 2 ;)

Can I just say, its the flyers. It couldn't have happened to a nicer team (apart from the pens!!!)

But seriously, look at that Novotny goal again. I said to my wife, "holy shit, they are not even trying and are scoring. That was a random shot, unscreened that should have been a routine save for eshe.

The flyers D are slooooww (hell the caps beat them twice in preseason!!!)

And they are being and will continue to be exposed by faster teams.

The score last night was not buffalos fault, it was all on the flyers

I have to agree on this to a certain degree. Some of the goals Chico allowed were pretty soft, and hell, two of them were put in at the same exact spot. On the goal line. I think that once Lars Johnsson gets back, this should help the Flyers out, at least temporarily. Clarke really needs to get out on the market and try and find a proven backup goalie for Niitty, as it's clear he's the number one. Also, with the quotes Esche had for Hitchcock on Tuesday, it doesn't look like he'll be in Philly past the Trading Deadline, anyway.

It's kind of sad when a second year goalie with a torn labrum in his hip is playing better than a guy who's been in the league for eight seasons. Hitchcock left him Esche out there for a reason. He wants to play, and wants to play more? There ya go buddy, you played a full game, and let up nine goals. 6.50 GAA in two games.

What's with Buffalo going full tilt and rubbing in the victory? Running Foppa when it's 9-1? Dancing around on the 9th goal? I honestly hope Hatcher grabs one of these small forwards and just kills'em. Catch'em on a dangle with a vicious elbow or something. Like I said last week though, this isn't the Philly of old. They don't scare anyone at all.

I heard Esche and Hitchcock got into it about playing time before this game, so that's why he'll let'em hang himself tonight.

I seem to recall the last time someone overreacted in a blowout that he was suspended for a really long time.

It is classless, certain situations call for a move, others don't. There were times when Buffalo players had better options on the ice, but decided to try for the highlight reels instead. The chance to dangle like they did tonight is rarely there, which is why I don't buy the "stay sharp" argument. If anything the plays I'm talking about reinforce bad habits.

Blowouts are often games where guys try things that they wouldn't normally try in a tight game. Even NHLers like to have a little fun on the ice now and then.

I dont know how you can say that they were being classless. Eazy, you want the flyers to scum people because they suck? That is classless man. "our team sucks and we keep letting you score so we are gonna scum you."

Peters - mair- gaustad were out almost every other shift in the third, thats not exactly trying to run up the score. They had 3 PP goals, and a couple highlight goals. There really weren't any big over the top celebrations aside from Afino's, and when you undress 3 players at full speed, you deserve to celebrate your goal.

Fire your captin kangaroo looking coach, fire your GM, and start over. But dont cry when you team gets smoked for 9 goals by a better team.

I want them to do what they can to stop the other team from embarassing them and acting like idiots, which is what Buffalo did. You're right, Peters got a fair chunk of ice-time and it was good of Ruff to do so. You must've skimmed over that part. The Buffalo team as a whole wasn't awful, but certain players were.

Chadd- Foppa is usually dirty and chippy, but he was floating tonight. Why risk it? Peters could've turned away and nobody would have noticed, instead it's another oppurtunity to rub the Flyers into it. It doesn't prove anything, it doesn't send a message. As for the Bad Habits, more are created playing against a team who doesn't care and doesn't try and playing "safe" hockey. After you score 6 goals in a single period, I think it's safe to put it on cruise control.

There is no room for compassion in professional sports. Nobody who is anybody has any feelings for their opponent. That is Lesson #`1. How do you think any of those guys got there in the first place? By caring about the guy they are lined up against at any point in any game they ever played in? I don't think so.

You need to show respect. The Sabres didn't, and it'll come back to them eventually. It always does. If there's no room for compassion, why is everyone so upset that I suggested Hatcher or one of the other bigger Philly players step up and send a message?

Ya, well I knew you and your brother would be against it. If it was upto you two fairies everyone would be wearing a skirt on the ice. Although I seem to remember your brother being pumped after Kovalev elbowed Tucker in the face. He deserved it too, but you two are against an "eye for an eye" aren't you?

Because you suggested an intent to injure.

I'm surprised that nobody stepped up from Philly and made a physical statement. Teams have always at least made some physical statement when getting killed like that. To me, it shows a lack of pride/heart on the part of the Flyers if they didn't stand up for themselves at some point (I did miss the 3rd).

Hrrmmmmmm.............."eye for an eye" does not equal, "You scored a bunch of goals so now I'm throwing elbows."

lol, skirts, try to find something better next time.

and for eye for an eye, it depends. I am sometimes for and sometimes against, but I just can't see the comparation between 9 goals = to how many cheap shots. Can you tell me? If the team is not good enough or not well prepare enough it's because of themselves and not the other team.

Because you suggested an intent to injure.

... but he says that there are no "feelings" in the NHL.

Chippa/Theo - It's not the goals, it's the rubbing it in and late hits.

Mack - You're in. I'm exhausted doing this. It's my last post, you all know my opinion and those who think it's about the scoring are wrong. It's the way they handled themselves that bothered me.

AK - They slapped the Flyers in the face all night long. It's a man's game, the Flyer's should've stepped up. I have no idea why they didn't. I liken it to bumping the goalie or taking a late hit. It isn't something huge, but it's a written rule you come out and fight or at least try to after it. You've completely missed the point, like many others. The score isn't what the issue is, it's the lack of respect towards their opponent.

EasyB,

Please ask one of your connections in the Show what he would do playing on either team last night? If your connection was on the Sabres, would he have kept the petal to the metal or let up? If your connection was on the Flyers, would he have stepped up and made a physical statement? I think you underestimate the competitive drive and desire of the professional athlete. Those men are at that level because they take no prisoners every step of the way. If you're on bottom end of 6zip after one, suck it up. If you're on the top of 6zip after 1, how many more we can we get tonight? Respect for your opponent in the pros? There is a certain level of respect but there is also desire to totally demoralize the other team. You just witnessed it.

Not respecting your opponent opens the door to needless injuries. Getting players upset leads to aggression, whether it be bigger or questionable hits... or fights. If you show the other team up and then get hurt because of it.... you get what you deserve. Not that I would advocate intentionally hurting someone, but I tend not to feel as bad when that is the result of more aggressive play that they brought onto themselves.

What's with Buffalo going full tilt and rubbing in the victory?

Goal differential is one of the tie breakers in the standings, so I say run it up if you can.

Same reason a Nascar driver brings a wrecked car back out on the track to run laps. You never know if you might need those few extra points at the end of the season.

Oh, and screw Philly. ;)
