elbow pads without bicep protection...

Recommended Posts

i found a thread where chadd mentioned cutting the bicep protection off his elbow pads, and JR said this was common practice in the NHL w/Jofas. i wanted to make a new thread to see if anybody else had experience with this? (rather than start another elbow-pads-that-don't-move thread)

i've got M1's right now which don't move as much as other pads i've had, but they still move enough to bug me while i play. now i'm debating whether to get pads with bicep protection and modify them, or to just get pads without it in the first place.

Is it too obvious to suggest buying an elbow pad that doesn't have the bicep protection? They do still exist.

Most of them aren't as protective.

CCM Pro Tack elbow pad, the neoprene is amazing.

It's hands down the best piece of equipment I have ever bought, in terms of need.

Major slippage before I got these, and voila problem solved.

There are now moisture-wicking long sleeve undershirts that have rubber pieces attached to them where your elbow pads go. The rubber is there to help hold the elbow pads in place. Perhaps you might look into something like this.

Not only would you get the moisture-wicking capability, but the shirt would likely solve your elbow pads moving issue as well.

are you still using the DRs? why did you prefer that to the bicep-less Jofa?

I use the DRs sometimes, other times the Jofas. The DRs are much more protective but slip a little sometimes. The Jofas fit my popeye forearms a bit better.

I have the Nike Dri-Fit Shirt with the rubber pieces. I also have Nike V12 Dri fit elbow pads that have rubber pieces on the inside to prevent moving. When wearing both the elbow pads dont slide at all.

I find my Bauer 8000's don't move very much.

I have a pair 8000's and they kept sliding even though I wore them tight. I tried a pair of RBK 7K. problem solved, no more sliding.

If you have no problem with buying pads w/ bicep protection and then cutting off the bicep cuff, then maybe check out the new CCMs. I tried them on in the store and they seemed pretty secure. I thought that the 4.0's (which uses straps) fit better than the higher end models (which use lace tighening).

If you're looking for an EP w/o the bicep part, I have an extra pair of brand new Itech 155s in men's small that I'm not using. PM me if you're interested.

Sorry to butt in, is that the Centurion EP88 you wear, I'm toying with the idea of purchasing a set.

It's too bad you have to buy a $50 shirt to wear an elbow pad....

It is a difficult task to get something to stay in place on a constantly moving, expanding and contracting, slippery object.....wow that sounds dirty.

Here's a question, what if the bicep pad is an extension of the shoulder pad bicep, and NOT attached to the elbow pad?

Wrap the bicep pad from the shoulder all the way around and make the elbow pad a beefed up version of the Jofa X025 series and it's a good combo. It would take a lot of education of the buying public and most shops aren't into working for their sales.

I wouldn't say you HAVE to buy a $50 shirt. Many people are moving towards moisture wicking shirts, which are generally $35 and up anyway. Why not pay just a little bit more to get the type that has the elbow pad stays, if you have that problem?

I personally don't have that problem as I wear Jofa's. But for those who do have that problem, and are buying wicking underwear anyway, the extra for the elbow pad stays is justified I think.
