Is There Any Brand Name You Won't Use

Recommended Posts

I'm not a big fan of Inno as a retail line, and I'll be hesitant to consider them again in the future. Don't get me wrong, I like Inno's construction quality and "3rd party" gear and don't have problems buying sticks like the Bauer TFG. Their pro stock gear might be good, too. But after reading threads like, "which side of the shaft is the boron spine on?" and, "what shaft is REALLY under the paint job?" or, "is this the Nash or Robitaille pattern?" doesn't inspire me with confidence in buying a retail product model that may or may not be what I expected, especially when many Inno products are ordered online. It just seems too confusing for the average consumer who isn't a hardcore gearhead. If the retailers are having a hard time telling pro stock from retail and retail from retail, Joe Schmoe will be even more confused. And for the price of their products, I expect better control over the correct paint job and flex/handle labeling. And what's with their "standard" blade tenon size/dimensions that don't fit standard shafts well anyway? <_< Just my $0.02...

Other than that....

I tend to stay away from CCM because most their stuff doesn't fit me well, except their pants which I like. Also up until maybe a couple years ago, I didn't find their products very innovative, almost stagnant in design. Compared to what everyone else has produced at the time, CCM strikes me as falling short in some way. I'll tend towards Mission, Jofa and Graf products.

That's funny you pick that time frame. That's when CCM started cutting corners on quality and going for more flash.

Bauer seemed just like CCM at the time. Both companies had been making the same old "if you don't fit our gear, then don't play hockey" type products for years, specifically skates and gloves. Then someone came along and gave them a good kick in their complacency. It's just that Bauer seems to have responded better to market change than CCM has. I don't know if Bauer products are better quality now than before (e.g. Vapor XX skates), but at least their newer products are more innovative than CCM's.

I'm getting rid of my CCM gear (gloves, helmet, and skates in the past 3 years). Not original enough, in fact, all of THC isn't too original, just Jofa came close to perfecting elbow, shoulder, and shinpads. I'm liking how Nike's fit and the feel of my old T-Flex again, but I will buy no more Easton gear than old 85 T-Flex's I can find. So for me, Koho, CCM, and Easton are off my list.

I am pretty picky about my hockey stuff, CCM is just not for me, although that I curently use elbow pads, shin pads and shoulder pads from them, I will probably change them next year. Probably will never use Mission stuff(no offence to justin) I just don't like their designs although that they are the best in roller.

I don't have any predjudice against any brand, i'll try as many as i can to find the right fit and feel regardless of brand. Sure some consistenly don't work for me for whatever reason, but i'll still give em all a fair go on the off chance the product improves. Therefore no need to name names from me as there are none i dislike, just some don;t work.

There isn't really one company I shy away from but there are companies that I will only use for certain items. Mainly I stick with the same companies I've been using for a long time since I know what to expect.

CCM - had bad experiences with the equipment but have had great experiences with their blades.

Easton - like some equipment and hate some of it. Won't use their blades or sticks anymore.

Mission - have some equipment and used some sticks but they aren't a top choice when looking for equipment. Not for any real reason though. If they put out something that is turning heads, I would look into it.

Eagle - not really a fan of their styling.

TPS - Haven't really used any of their stuff but not because I've heard bad things. Would consider using them if the opportunity presented itself.

I would have to say Mylec. All my Mylec OPS Knight Rider sticks broke on the first shot. My Mylec Ultra Super Skates completely folded over on my first stop/turn. haha.

I cant believe this many people hate ccm. I love their skates, there just about the only brand that fits me perfectly. I dont like there protective line, excluding their helmet, they are alright... I think their sticks are junk though. And hespler... I dont know, just... dont like it

This is a funny thread...For everyone that hates "X" brand, there is someone who loves it... This is what makes my job interesting...

Before Mission was making gear, the brands I used was Bauer for skates, Easton Ultra-Lite stick (the original brown one), GB-2 Blade, Hesphler RTX Classic (loved these gloves), and Bauer Helmet...Never was a fan of CCM player gear, but loved HEATON goalie...However that was before Heaton was purchased by CCM...I liked Koho goalie, but nothing compared to the old Heaton Helite III series...Vaughn became my favorite, after I got a Legacy catch glove...

Brands I won't use: Tour, Nexed, Syven, Nike, CCM, Bauer, Easton, Hesphler, etc.... ;) Just kidding around....

I don't really use Nike, based mostly on principle. I don't like what Nike has done to the hockey equipment business. The standard "shelf life" for skate/equipment models used to be 3, 4, even 5 years... now it's more like 1 year, MAYBE 2 years. If the new products coming out were truly THAT revolutionary, then fine, but often, the only changes to products are strictly cosmetic. They're changing just for the sake of changing.

Ah, Sande...another one.

Damn, I rocked the Mylec helmet for roller for the longest time...I didn't want to give it up.

I won't use CCM player equpiment anymore. So many companys make lighter, better fitting and more protective stuff. Also I will not wear Jofa shoulder pads. They just don't fit me right and I feel restriced. I think I will stick with wearing my Sherwood 5030's. I also won't use Easton gloves. I have really big hands and their fingers wouldn't fit a 5 year-old. I also try to stay away from their shafts, but their blades seem to be alright (although I would only use the Z-Carb).

I've never been big on ccm stuff, though I <3 my 795 tacks. above the ankles I'm not a fan of them though.

on another note, if I had to pay full price for either pair of my eagle gloves, I would not have bought them. plain and simple, they're NOT worth 150.

I've had problems with anything bauer composite I've used (having never extensively used a vapor XX OPS)

older mission stuff would give me problems, especially once bilt rite and mission became one name. but hats off justin, your product has come very far, I'm even interested in ditching my trusted jofa for the new m1 protective line. [/ass kissing]

We have come a long way, and have a long way to go...I spent my last trip working on making the stuff better and with higher quality. We are trying to makeour product perform better and be more durable. There is nothing I hate more than hearing about product failing apart...

Yeah, my friend recently sent back a pair of d1s with the infamous outsole problem, he said you guess were pretty quick and very helpful. And although he had to break out his old Amp3/sensor setup for a tournament, he didn't spend much more time than that without skates.

for whatever reason, i hate the feel of bauer sticks.... even when they had vapor 10/triflex, just felt rotten. of course, i've never tried an xx... i'll use bauer pads tho, even tho i don't at the moment.

i had my run-in with nike too, they've become so annoying. everything after their air skates (the fedo bling ones) they've just gotten worse. and it's not to say the air skates were awesome....

Was never a big KOHO fan, too much of Mario and Jags getting stuffed down my throat back in the day. I have always been willing to try different things that are against the norm of "traditional" hockey equipment. Still have my first 85 maroon t-flex that I bought years ago. If I like it and it fits im buying it.
