My New Gloves

Recommended Posts

So I just bought a new pair of Vapor XXX gloves today (they're my second pair) and I was wondering how to keep the palms from getting crusty. I used the search tool to try and find a topic that answered my question, but no answer was specific towards the palms of the Vapor XXXs (thin nash palm). If I missed a topic, if you could leave a link that would be great. Otherwise I saw suggestions to just air out the gloves after use, but in other topics I have seen people say that funk free and shaving cream helps get rid of the crust and I was wondering if this prevents crust as well. I ripped up my first pair and the crust was never too much of a factor. For the first couple months my gloves were never crusty at all, but then it becamse somewhat of an issue. When they were moist they were amazing, and all htey needed was a little use to get rid of the crust affect, but do you guys have any suggestions to keep these palms soft for as long as possible? Obviously smell is a factor for all of us, but that really isn't my main concern. I just want to know how to keep these palms nice and soft and to avoid any crust or hardening. All suggestions are appreciated!

I'm in the same situation as you. Same gloves, and I got mine for Xmas.

I can feel mine starting to get a little "rough". So far what i've been doing is putting my gloves in the end pocket then airing them out when i'm done. My Eagle X70's that I recently went through very quickly the palms got "crusty" and nearly hard as rocks.

I'm also in my third year of vapor xx's. If i don't use my gloves for a day or two the tend to stiffen up, but after about 45 seconds in em they're perfect again. Overall an awesome plalm.

Adding water to the palms is the WORST thing you can do to your gloves.

Why? I mean its just water?!

My Eastons are 2 and a half seasons old, and NOW there are 2 little holes in the palms ..

Yeah, I used to splash a little water on mine before I played. I mean they were already crusty so I don't see how the water was going to make them worse. Lately though, I'll just spit in the center of the palm and slide it up and down my stick a little to distribute the saliva.

Its also effective for a good face rub, they get some of my geek stink breath plus the other odor! hahaha just playing.

*sidenote, these are coopers that I've had for 14 years and only my left palm has a hole which was more than likely caused from the friction with the stick tape (I'm a righty).

**You could also just have them re-palmed once they got crusty instead of buying new ones, unless of course there are other wear issues that would affect safety. It would probably be cheaper. I know that doesn't really answer your question, just my two cents.

Pretty nasty, but watever dude.

I mean i never really had too much trouble with the crust because after about a minute or 2 of using it they were back to normal. The palms just needed a little of my sweat in them or a little use (whichever came first) but water always makes my hands freeze once I get on the rink. And in response to repalming my last pair, the palms weren't the problem, the gloves were missing a lot of pieces: http://www.modsquadhockey.com/forums/index...28&hl=mb226

So far it sounds like crust is ineveitable, but it was never bad early on with my last pair, so I guess i'm just gonna air them out after use if i get no other suggesstions.

putting watter on your palms is like licking your lips when they are chapped, it will remedy the problem temporarily, but in the long run your just making it worse.

I spray my gloves with Febreze after every game. If they start getting stiff then I will spray them when I put them in my bag to drive to the rink. By the time I get to the rink they feel nice and more importantly they don't smell like month old underwear.
