Do the new versions of Explorer have Spell Check when you are filling in forms? I use Mozilla and it has that feature...it's saved me LOTS of bad typo's.

I agree with Chadd. There are people here from several countries and all walks of life. When people try to put effort and thought into their posts, it shows. I think the problem that exists in all forums is the intentional use of abbreviations and slang. It makes no sense to those people that are not used to communicating like that.

Just my 2 cents.

That's worth alot more than 2 cents. I think most folk here share that sentiment.

I have to admit though, I tend to get lazy and type like that to get the message across quicker. But I try to minimalize it, I don't have time to spellcheck every post and instant message I write :)

...

But if you are too lazy to spell check and too lazy to give a crap what others are going to see when they try to read what you wrote, why should we give a crap what you have to write??? If one does not have time to at least proofread, perhaps one should not post. We are all busy in our own minds, and it is pretty arrogant to assume that while you are too busy to be accurate, we have all the time we need to wade through crap and try to decipher instant text junk and mispellings and inaccurate abbreviations. You don't have to be an English major or a writer to write clearly.

Ok, I just meant I will make the odd spelling errors and mistakes or miss stuff here and there as well. I am not a perfect writer or an english major. I was not using that as an excuse to post without putting thought into it..

Then you are 100% on board with 99.9% of everyone here. Awesome! :) Some of the hardasses will still find fault no matter what you do. But that's life.

I just did a little test in IE 7, it seems as though the spell check feature is exclusive to Mozilla.

As a side note, I lurked on this board for a few days before I even registered, and I managed to pick up on what qualified as acceptable behavior on the forum. Whoever said making new members wait for a certain period directly after registering before being allowed to post was right; that way they either have to wait make stupid posts, or they actually have to learn to search for information. Either way, it limits the ridiculousness that I've been noticing recently.

It's almost sad (and pretty irritating) that when I'm away from the board for a week, I come back and still see the same topics popping up with different starters.

... This little exchange is about the only thing that has ever made me feel smarter, or exceptionally skilled for actually being an English major.

There has to be a way to keep folks from resurrecting 2 year dead threads. Something like make them viewable via search but not on the live forum. An archive if you will.

If the two year-old thread is relevant, it is preferable to add onto it rather than starting a new thread about the exact same question or topic. 1 > 2

The most recent one was somebody asking for clarification on a point made by a poster 2 years ago. That is retarded.

Mega threads that contain several months or years of info are hard to digest sometimes. Again, "display as posts" should be the default option when searching.

There's plenty of members that are still on the site from that long ago, might as well use an old thread instead of starting a new one... The new thread might bring up questions that was already answered in the old thread. Don't chastise someone for searching when we ask them to search.

Normally I'd agree with you but with this forum it's a little different because most subjects of older equipment has at some point been discussed. It just makes sense to ask in an existing thread instead of start another one and reference that thread.

Right, and thinking about it that's the same conclusion I came to. Why spawn more threads for equipment that already exists and doesn't change mid year. A pair of Vapor XXX are a pair of Vapor XXX no matter if you bought them in June or January.

Ok, the armchair moderation is getting out of hand. How about an official word from the mods regarding whether or not they will deal with forums stupidity or if it's cool for every body to take shots at folks.

I'd think it's better for the mods to handle it as it doesn't seem such a hostile environment when people with authority correct you rather than being gang raped by everybody.

The mods are doing something about it. The way the majority of it is handled is done privately, so while it may seem like nothing is being done, steps are being taken.

Don't get me wrong, the armchair moderators shouldn't really be busted out in front of every body. Unless mack does it, then it's freaking hilarious. I was just saying that it seems rather hostile here with so much petty shots being taken at people.

Like I said earlier, it's just a phase. It comes and goes and for the most part we(non-moderators) are quite understanding.

If you notice most of our comments(with a few exceptions) aren't mean, we aren't out there calling everyone idiots. Normally the "mean" comments are from the original poster trying to call us out on being assholes... which we are not. It gets tiring reading the same posts over and over again, when we can search and find a similar topic in a matter of seconds... or even look further down the first page! As far as the armchair moderator comments, I think that as people that have been here for a while and understand how this board works are well within our position to tell someone to search or let them know that they are being vague or whatever else. I do NOT believe it's in our positions to call someone an idiot or any other name because of their laziness, but calling them out on it is fair game.

This board is MUCH more lenient than others; just look at some of the language used on here as well as some of the posts. We shouldn't have to have moderators breathing down our necks and deleting and editing everyone's posts; I feel that this board is VERY well moderated. They shouldn't be the only ones letting people know that a topic has been covered, there's only soo much they can do.

I do agree that some of us have crossed that line and just been outright mean. I'll watch what I say and keep some things to myself... but I will still speak my mind. There's a few things that I won't keep my mouth shut about, the most notable being someone giving incorrect and un-informed information or opinion as fact. I just have to say something when I see someone post: "You should get a stealth, it's the best stick for dangling, slap shots and poke checks." This board is loaded with quality information and something like that is like a slap in the face with a sack full of ignorance.

Well if G60 ever comes back (hope hope) he can have my position as long as he follows through with that autograph I requested because he's a VW forum-running badass.

I came to this forum to learn about hockey. I'm learing more and more everyday thanks to all the great insight we have on this site. I came to this site but i first browsed for awhile and then awhile later I made my account. Because of this i learned that if you had nothing to add don't add anything. A big thanks to all the mods you really deserve it.

Just want to give a BIG thanks to JR for helping out a teammate of mine. His willingness to help someone whom he's never met and still treat them like a friend speaks volumes for the type of people who run this site.

And yes, even Mack ;)

If you've got nothing better to say than "OMG ROTFLMAO TTYL", then don't say anything.

Would you believe that there is a book currently on the best sellers list that consists of nothing but chat/messenger abbreviations, from cover to cover. Future high school required reading I'm sure... imagine the book reports. :)

Not even in High School! I used to work for a national cable TV carrier and they had abbreviations and anograms for everything! We once made a list in the office of all the anograms, it topped over 100! I think if anything the ability to remember abbreviations, anograms and use them properly will put most kids at an advatage in that sort of corporate atmosphere, rather than a disadvantage when it comes to job hunting time.
