Article on hockey laces

Yes, the fad started in the early 90s with the Euros wearing Grafs. I remember Johan Garpenlov being one of the first.

He did not just drop a Johan Garpenlov bomb. Man, haven't heard that name in ages.

Wonder if he was buddies with Jan Erixon?

On a different note, how often do y'all change laces? I do it when I feel the wax is gone, so maybe every 6 months or so after 1-2x skating per week.

Same with me, or if they get nicked up. I just changed mine today after about 4 months.

I do so a little quicker. I put a lot of tension on mine so as soon as they fray, lose their wax, or are on sale they get changed.

interesting article, I wonder how much money people can make out of shoe laces, it must be obvious that it's creating a lot of new business for those guys and the profit margin for making those!!

where do they made?

How do you use 2 pairs of laces on your skates? Tie them together or intertwine them?

From what I got from the article you would tie the bottom part of your skates with one lace then the upper half with another lace. They don't have to be connected.

My Graf 501's came with them back in '85.

I didn't say that the yellow lace came out in the early 90s, I am saying that the Euro players were wearing them in the NHL in the early 90s.

They didn't really get too popular around where i live until Fleury started wearing yellow in his Ignite 1's.

The write up said that Graf’s were a German company…. I thought Graf was out of Sweden (besides Graf Canada). Was the founder out of Sweden?

My daughter has had laces with sparkles/glitter on them..... if you guys need a pair I could let you know where she got them......
