Pant Question

Recommended Posts

I am thinking of getting either the 9000 Air or a pair of 5000 pro. My first question is I heard that the 5000's are 2 piece pant? What is the difference between that and a regular pant? I am looking for the lighest and the one that offer the most mobility but excellent protection. which would be a better choice.

Thanks Sid.

Ok, I am probably the only person around here that does not like Tacklas. So take it for what it's worth.

I have a pair of 9000 Air. they are supper comfy - loose in the legs and snug around the waist, very mobile. I thought they were the best. But every time I got dumped on my ass or hip, I'd have tight back for weeks. I decided to replace tail pad with the one from my old pants. When I cut the tackla pad off if was kind of surprised that it was made of

1. very hard plastic plate

2. 1/16" of packing foam

3. 1/4" of squishy comfort (couch) foam

Plastic would be very good at blocking a puck, comfort foam offers zero cushioning, 1/16" of airpack (kind used to wrap electronics, dishes, etc..) is all you got saving your hip pointer from the fall.

Maybe it's just that I'm 40+ and 6'1" and 215lb, but they offered no protection to me at all. If your lighter/younger and don't mind - they are great.

The 5000 Pro are essentially bulletproof. I have never been a big fan of the 9000.

Jr would I be able to take, say a padded pro Bauer shell and attach it to the 5000 pro kidney piece, or is it only tackla to tackla?

I can't remember if they match up, but they have to be the same size.

I've gotten absolutely drilled in my 9000s and never experienced any of the stuff you're talking about. If you make the padding any thincker you're going to start restricting movement quite a bit.

I've had the 9000 airs for about 2 years now. I love them, but I have had a few times where I wish the hip pads provided more protection. (It could just be because I'm skinny and have no built in protection.) Anyway... Protection every where else and mobility on them has been great. Can't go wrong with Tacklas. :D

I have been using a girdle for the last 16 years, and the only pant I felt was as comfortable is the 5000 pro. Best pant period.

I've had the 5000 pant for over a year now and it's been superb. It offers great protection and mobility. I have absolutely nothing bad to say about them. I've never owned any other pant that has offered me this kind of freedom of movement and I've tried all the major brands. In my opionion you can't go wrong with these breezers.

just a follow up question. I fall into the crossover point with pants 34' waist. I can get a 50 or 52 size (The 5000 only come in 50). Tackla says it should go on tight around the hips taking a tug to get them on but will fit fine once on (tight around the waist but loose in the leg). Does this mean that when putting them on first they might seem a bit small almaost as if they don't fit. They also say they should come up to mid knee to 2-3 inches above the knee. I have a pair of Easton 50 that fir fine would Tackla sizing be similar.

Thanks Sid.

I rock a Tackla 5000 pro upper size 52 with a large Bauer padded lower--The buttons match up.

Sid, if you have a bit of a spare tire going on, go up to the 52.
