The devils wish they had fair weather fans...

Fair-weather would imply that the team has just recently enjoyed some success. The Devils have been one of the top teams in the league for the last decade-plus.

The Rangers play in the greatest city in the world - there is always going to be demand. The Devils, unfortunately, play in a relatively dry market with little-to-no interest being paid by the casual fan.

And let's not forget the ticket prices in NJ - I make a few "pilgrimages" back "home" each season to catch some games in the Swamp, and my bank is always broken by the time I get back. Who, besides the die-hards or the people with a lot of disposable income, wants to pay that much to see a game? Then you have the factor of the old building - probably the shittiest in the NHL. I will, however, concede that I am sad to say I have seen my last game in the CAA. *Sigh* I wish I could say that I think the new rink will lead to a boost in attendance, but I doubt it.

When it comes down to it, my team's goalie has three Stanley Cup rings. How many does yours have?

Cobra: It's ridiculous, isn't it? I love it when people who have only recently started watching try to tell me how the game I have been playing/watching/studying since I was four years old should look and be played. I can tolerate the long-time fans (although they have the tendency to bitch that Buffalo fans are famous for), but the bandwagoners are just way too much to take sometimes.

There is nothing I need to add to this, 100% true. I'm sick of going to games and hearing all the retarded fans yell "SHOOT!" on the powerplay, just because it has been slumping as of late, but don't realize that you cant shoot the puck through 6 players. Im sick of seeing girls being decked out in Sabres garb because they think Paul Gaustad is cute. The list goes on.

What I was illuding to was the fact that they wish they had fans who rooted for them when they were good... they have been good for 15 years... and still no fans.

and btw are you serious? My team has FOUR rings. 4>3. Typical devil fan...

I said "my team's goalie"...not my team. I was drawing a reference to the recent history of the two teams. Illiteracy (like losing) is a bitch.

3 > 0. Typical Rangers fan.

In all fairness, only Devils fans actually stayed awake during those games to see the Devils win.

A win is a win is a win is a win. It's not like no team had ever played The Trap before - it's just that no team was as committed to it (or has ever done it as well as) the Devils. Teams tried before, they've tried since, and they will continue to try.

Lou, the scouts and the coaching staff has done a terrific job bringing players into the organization who (will) do well in the system. The long-term success of the philosophy is really a testament to the brains and hard-work of the organization's brass.

I don't need a game to be a barn-burner for me to enjoy it. It's not difficult for me to appreciate the game itself without seeing the puck cross the line nine times a night. Give me a 1-0 or 3-1 (with an empty-netter) any night.

ouch, bad reading. The devils can very easily go 50 years without winning a cup, so until you get more, dont talk.

...only if you drop the argument that attendance is what makes a franchise and not it's on-ice success (which is really what the game is (mostly) about, isn't it?).

Paul Gaustad is cute.

...and out for the season; though 85% of Sabres "fans" couldn't tell you why.

The Rangers sell out every night and made the playoffs last season for the first time in 7 years. The Devils never sell out and still post a winning record and get into the playoffs. What do attendance, fan base, and team records have to do with one another? Nothing. The Rangers fan always laughs at the lack of Devils fans at CAA. So what? The few Devils fans laugh at the Rangers lack of team success since 1994 as compared to the Devils. So what?

I never said attendnce makes a franchise. All I said was the devils have terrible fans. Please show me where I drew a parallel between fans and the teams preformance.

I also said that attendance, fan base, and team records have nothing to do with one another. However, why are the few fans who go to Devils games "terrible fans?" That is comparable to saying that in the early 90s under the Stump Merrill years, the Yankees had terrible fans since Yankee Stadium was drawing about 20,000 Yankees fans in a 55,000 seat stadium. What rock did the other 35,000 Yankees fans crawl out from under in 1996 when the Yankees finally won a World Series and Yankees fans started going to Yankee Stadium again? Fair weather Yankees fans? Bandwagon jumpers? Hold the train, its time to jump on the caboose?

Have you ever attempted to have a conversation with a devil fan? nuff said. I would say a good 75% of devil fans are clueless. Countless times I would be at games at the CAA and have devil fans shout out dumb uncorrect things where you just have to shake your head and laugh.

And there have been countless times that an American who speaks English as his first language shouts/says/types "uncorrect" things "where you just have to shake your head and laugh."

;)

As Cobra and I were saying earlier - every team is going to have it's "stupid" following; you should hear some of the shit some Sabres fans say - it's like that ESPNews commercial where the guy is "talking sports out of his ass" (only it seems a large number of people in this area don't get or watch ESPNews...lol). That doesn't mean that the rest of the Sabres fans (the ones not of the bandwagon demographic) are any less knowledgeable or dedicated to their team...

...but the constant pissing and moaning still annoys the shit out of me

That said, I've had some, uh, "rather interesting" hockey-related conversations with some of the "fans" in NYC; just because a large number of "your kind" spew inane bullshit doesn't mean that there aren't some decent (albeit brain-dead ;)) Rangers fans with a solid comprehension of the team and the game.

Since 1979 Rangers fans at least once a game have shouted out "Potvin Sucks."

nuff said.

Yeah, its pretty shocking that fans actually know a little bit of history about their team. I try to have conversations with friends of mine who are devil fans, and they dont even know who Claude Lemuix is. Its not like were talking about original six hockey here, it was 10 years ago, and they know nothing.

And back to Potvin sucks, I will be at devil games and hear people scream (not whistle, because I guess they cant) the meolody to lets go band, and then scream Rangers suck... how original, wonder where they got it from.

Who the hell cares? They win and that's what I root for; not their attendance. Look at the crap you root for.

they have nobody to root for them to win, ass. This thread has to do with fans, not teams. The rangers have more cups than the devils neways.

Jesus, you used the team's history of Cups? Nevermind the fact the Rangers have a lifetime on the Devils, how many have you been around to root for, cupcake? If this is your rationale than any Habs fan (except Kovy_Ribs and his brother) could trump everyone here.

If you don't know the guy who played a HUGE role in your team's first Cup (and won the Conn Smythe), then you're definitely not a fan. Christ, I named my dog "Claude." They're the ones who are missing-out - I bet they don't remember the "Crash Line," either.

mckay, peluso, and holik = crash line. The only reason I remember that was b/c Peluso looked really odd sporting the old Jofa 390 helmet.

I just wish Jarrod Skalde would've panned out for the devils, he was a counselor at a hockey camp I went to as a kid the summer after they drafted him.

Skalde's a good guy. Played for Orlando; still has a house there - we used to skate with him during the summer.
