TPS is cutting its staff

That factory is in my hometown. My cousin works there, he said they've been expecting this for a long ass time now. Good thing the 'Burg is boomin, so there's some jobs there.

Even when we used to book with TPS, Marcelo didn't come up to Nor Cal very often. We are the only Shop in the Sacramento Valley. I don't think any of the Bay area rinks(Santa Rosa, SJ, Oakland, TriV, Berk, Vaca) even carried TPS. He was pretty busy with his So Cal/LA clients who ordered quite a bit more. He also had a lot of Pros to work with. The rink in Reno, Nevada stocks just a few TPS sticks, but that is over 4 hours East of Frisco(2 from Sac)

For small Pro Shops in a Non-hockey market like Northern California it is easier and less risky to just order from the big companies. We just book with THC, Bauer, Easton & Itech/Mission. Other stuff we just dabble in like Eagle, Muskoka, Oakley, Inno & Pro Guard.

I dont see what you guys are complaining about, its called capitalism.  My father owns his own business, they suppy industrial supplies (pipes, fittings, valves, etc) to huge companies like MM Mars, Marcal, etc.  Every few years they have to bid to regain their contract to supply the company with what they need.  Its legal.  Say you are building a building, and you have a few construction companies who want to build it you look for who is giving you the best quality and best price.

Sorry, but your example is off target. You have to make a difference between two things:

1. If a FRANCHISE signs a deal (with THC or BNH or whomever) that forces them to do the things listed in Chadds post, this is perfectly legal. Bad luck for the players, still.

2. If a LEAGUE signs the aforementioned deal with THC on their own (without consent of all franchises within this league), they force their members (franchises) to buy a specific equipment instead of what they would like to buy for their players.

If for example the Hershey Bears sign such a deal with BNH, it's their business because the Bears would have choosen their contractual partner on their own (just like the customers of your dad choose your dad's company as contractual partner).

If the AHL makes the deal on their own, but the bears management would like to purchase BNH stuff, there is a problem. In the later case, the customers (Hershey Bears) would be prevented from freely choosing their contractual partner.

That is why the "legality" of the THC-AHL deal depends on the question if all teams have expressly agreed to this deal. If they have all agreed, they each made use of their right to freely choose their supplier.

In a nutshell, the difference is if you choose your supplier yourself (=legal) or if the league imposes the supplier on all teams (=illegal).

Exactly Shark, the teams were in favor of the deal with the obvious exception of the two who opted out.

Yeah, it pretty much seems so. Those teams did a heck of a job to bullshit their own players. Must have been some management smartasses who have never played a shift of hockey. This sole idea of "one company fits all needs" is flat-out idiotic. Especially with sticks there are so many many differences and personal preference among players that is it brutal to reduce their choices to CCM Vector and Koho OPS (among shafts and woodies, agreed).

The effect will be nice: I bet Easton is already running their Synergy-with-Vector-graphics-poduction at full throttle. This time it's perfectly legitimate for Easton to do so.

Unfortunately some retail shops are the same.

I know my store was strictly Bauer when it opened. The manager's reasoning was that Bauer carried everything.

The teams are getting tickets purchased, this deal really has little to do with hockey products. It should be interesting to see the players fight over the exceptions.

Bad day?

I would think that the players may have some serious objections to teh AHL deal, the question is if they have any right to object.

I wonder if any players without stick exemptions will be taking their CCM Vectors and carefully peeling off the decals so they can attempt to reapply them to their favourite sticks that were colour matched and painted by a local autobody shop.

Debate aside, if anyone forced me to use a ccm vector I would wrap it around their neck. One of the best things about playing hockey is the variety and selection of equipment.

Does the deal apply to skates as well?

Essentially everything except skates. I quoted the terms somewhere.
