XXXX vs the One90 skate

Recommended Posts

You will have to excuse some of the comments...there are many posts on this subject if you do a search, so many of us that have had to endure almost daily posts of the same topic get somewhat frustrated...

That said...for the final comment on this discussion...the two skates are different in fit. If you are comparing the two in terms of the fit of a XXX, the XXXX is closest to the fit of the XXX, with a bit of a wider toebox. With that said, it is to your benefit to find a location that has both skates and try them both on. No one here has the same exact foot you have, so how a skate will fit you is not a question that anyone here but you will be able to answer. We can only give general statements on the differences of each skate.

The XXXX are the ugliest high end skate I have ever seen.... the only bright side to the chromed tendon guard with the vertical reflective red line is that it is reminiscent of battlestar galactica on the sci-fi network... I guess there were hockey helmets in Tron...so the sci-fi hockey bonding has been around a while...

I always hear people...or read about people complaining about the "blu-ish"

or "purple-ish" Tuuk LS2 power holder, but come on as far as empirical good or bad looks are concerned...the XXXX is one gaudy, ugly, skate in my opinion....

anyhow... this is just a reaction to seeing them in person the last couple of days at a couple of different LHS(s).

I disagree, they look better than the old vapors. The flexlites were some good looking skates. The ugliest skates have to be the Vector SEs... all they are missing is spinners and pink or baby blue laces to complete the look of gaudy/flamboyant/ghetto-ness.

I disagree, too. The XXXX is one of the best looking skates out there right now.

I disagree with all:

I think both the XXXX and the SEs are good looking skates....because they are different...and functional. Sure, chrome might not be the best choice for a hockey skate, but it does differentiate the high end skates from the others. I like the creativity in the design, and both happen to be my favorite skates.

The white 9Ks are also nice...they certainly look better than the Graf white/black combos. The G5 has a nice look, just don't like the skate. I will shut up now.

Just skated on my vapor xxxx's for the first time and I like the skate a lot. Its seems to be a stiffer boot than the xxx, but a more comfy boot. However I did get two nasty blisters on the insides of my feet after an hour of skating. gotta fix that

Skate looks are like skate fit, everyone is different. A skate that fits well starts looking better than a good looking skate that kills your feet IMO

Shawn is right, it's a matter of what fits your feet best. I'm sure the one 90:s are the best fit available for Lfntn10 but still may fit like sh** on another persons foot. Foot shape, foot volume high/low, narrow heel, wide heel, instep height, high arch, low arch etc. etc.

Again....

You have to try them. After about a half dozen sessions and 2 bakings, the One90s just did not feel right. I had way too much pain in my ankles. With the XXXXs I have no pain whatsoever....and I never even had to bake them. The XXXX is bliss for me. Just explains why there are two high end NBH skates. Fit is different. Their website is great in showing the minor nuances of the skates, from toe to heel.

Anyone else notice that the bauer insoles are too long for the footbed?

Yes. I have 2 pair, and on both skates the right insole is cut a little too big for the boot. I cut a small piece off the top of the toe and now they fit perfect...but will be getting a set of SuperFeet Grey in each pair.
